Is to use Xbox Media Center. This is an old program I recently found out about and figured I'd share with you guys. I was torrenting my tv shows I don't get on basic cable, but using XBMC streams tv shows or movies to your device, so you can avoid getting in trouble with your ISP.
These instructions are slightly outdated (with the version mainly), but I've had other people set it up with these instructions and it was pretty easy for them to figure out. So here you go:
1. http://xbmc.org/download/ and choose Windows, save file and then launch
a. I just accept all the defaults for the install, and then run XBMC
2. Go here http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/how-to-use-the-xbmchub-com-configuration-wizard-addon-for-dummies-and-see-mount-rushmore-from-xbmc/
3. When you get to Step 13 you have to click on “start-here” (because I didn’t have a “hub-wizard” link to click on).
a. Then click on “plugin.video.hubwzard-1.1.5.zip” and then continue with the walk through guide
4. I pretty much only use the “1Channel” Video Addon for all my tv shows I watch. They have a lot of movies here too, but some of the other Video AddOns are going to be better for watching movies I believe (you’ll have to experiment, GO Movies looks pretty good).
5. When you choose a tv show episode you will need to pick a stream, I usually look for a high # of people who have downloaded from them already, but I’ve had the best success with “BestStreams” links. Some will be slower or not as good of quality, but for the most part I’ve always gotten good quality and fast streams by sticking with the large #’s of downloaders.
Some tips for usage:
• When using XBMC to navigate you can use keyboard or mouse. If using the mouse, on most screens there is a “back” arrow and a home page icon. The back arrow will be your friend.
• If you’re in the middle of watching something, make sure to press the “Stop” button before going “back” to find something else to watch, as it can cause problems if you leave something running and try to find another stream to watch.
• If in doubt and you’re having problems with errors in XBMC, close the program and try again. Once I’ve had to restart the computer (must have been an issue with a service or process hanging)

streaming is unreliable and shitty quality, does not work offline either.
You are still downloading copyrighted material, pirating if the stream is not an official one like netflix or HBO.
Torrents are so much better overall. Sharing is caring.

usenet is the future past.

Why stream when you have yify and eztv? Although I have a feeling they won't last long and will end up just like publichd.

I only pay for games because steam is convenient. Would pay for netflix if it was possible (no netflix here qq). Since my country isn't prosecuting me for downloading pirated content I don't care about it. Last time I was part of NA community, one dude explained me that downloading Anime isn't illegal in USA (it's only illegal if someone imports particular show and has a licence for distribution). Unless you are hurting American economy, you're not doing anything illegal. Since most of entertainment I consume comes from USA, I don't feel bad because I'm not hurting my countries economy :P

The only time I buy digital entertainment media is if it has zero DRM (see CD Projekt Red, GOG for the proper way companies should do this). Otherwise, I don't even bother as there's no resale value in case I don't like my purchase. The only reason I have Warband is because I can buy it without having to deal with Steam or the other major digital distributors.
For DRM laden media, there's always torrents and cracks. There's really no beating them.

The streams that I download from on XBMC are all high enough quality on an almost 50" tv that it doesn't make a noticeable difference. My ISP isn't going to contact me about streaming a video through a website, since it's a lot harder to detect than downloading a torrent.
Whenever I've torrented in the recent past I have used eztv, but there's no guarantees that someone from a TV channel isn't documenting IP addresses there. I don't necessarily know how to download an encrypted torrent where my IP can't be traced, and I can't be arsed to spoof my IP address every time I wanted to torrent (other people use my computer that would have problems if I left a spoofed IP address).
Streaming over XBMC is very painless and very easy to do since it's all GUI based. I know many people that are using it now that I've sent these instructions to, and they are getting a lot of use out of it.

Never understood that part. Do they check the tracker or just send warnings based on p2p network usage? For example, there are many legal things you can torrent. But you're right, it's more of a hassle to check for illegal streams.
Also I'm wrong about what I said in previous post, because there is DMCA... not that it matters much in todays polarized world.

If I'm downloading a game of thrones torrent, someone affiliated with HBO will be tracking IP addresses of those who are downloading or uploading the content, and then they send cease and desist letters to that ISP who owns the IP address. If you get two (possibly three) warnings regarding this, they shut down your internet. And since there's only one cable provider for anywhere you live in USA (the cable companies divvy up locations), if you get your cable cut off you have some shitty choices to find another ISP.
