Is to use Xbox Media Center. This is an old program I recently found out about and figured I'd share with you guys. I was torrenting my tv shows I don't get on basic cable, but using XBMC streams tv shows or movies to your device, so you can avoid getting in trouble with your ISP.
These instructions are slightly outdated (with the version mainly), but I've had other people set it up with these instructions and it was pretty easy for them to figure out. So here you go:
1.
http://xbmc.org/download/ and choose Windows, save file and then launch
a. I just accept all the defaults for the install, and then run XBMC
2. Go here
http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/how-to-use-the-xbmchub-com-configuration-wizard-addon-for-dummies-and-see-mount-rushmore-from-xbmc/ 3. When you get to Step 13 you have to click on “start-here” (because I didn’t have a “hub-wizard” link to click on).
a. Then click on “plugin.video.hubwzard-1.1.5.zip” and then continue with the walk through guide
4. I pretty much only use the “1Channel” Video Addon for all my tv shows I watch. They have a lot of movies here too, but some of the other Video AddOns are going to be better for watching movies I believe (you’ll have to experiment, GO Movies looks pretty good).
5. When you choose a tv show episode you will need to pick a stream, I usually look for a high # of people who have downloaded from them already, but I’ve had the best success with “BestStreams” links. Some will be slower or not as good of quality, but for the most part I’ve always gotten good quality and fast streams by sticking with the large #’s of downloaders.
Some tips for usage:
• When using XBMC to navigate you can use keyboard or mouse. If using the mouse, on most screens there is a “back” arrow and a home page icon. The back arrow will be your friend.
• If you’re in the middle of watching something, make sure to press the “Stop” button before going “back” to find something else to watch, as it can cause problems if you leave something running and try to find another stream to watch.
• If in doubt and you’re having problems with errors in XBMC, close the program and try again. Once I’ve had to restart the computer (must have been an issue with a service or process hanging)
