After last patch, EU1 and EU2 become a random-plains spam. That maps are horrible, unplayable, rangedfest and cavalry spam everywhere. It's not bad to play one of that maps sometimes, but for each village map, three random-plains is abussive.
-
Actually, i'm loving those plains maps. Really great for teamplay. Almost every plains map has led to interesting teamplay, ranging from hillcamps, frontal charges, flanking maneuvers, surrounding hilltops, ambushing cav in some hollow, etc. I really like playing those maps, because all of a sudden the whole team wants and needs a tactic to play.
Unlike all those endless village maps where the tactic is always: defenders camp, attackers flank. Or maps like Nord Town, where everyone just plays solo and the game turns into a bit of a shoot 'em up and melee frenzy. Even worse, Village, where everybody towercamps and many rounds end in a draw or at least take way too long.
I can't get enough of those random plains maps. Also, i really love the plains map with the river. Endless oppertunities for tactics and teamplay. And never a draw! :D
Edite: That said, i suspect the sheer amount of plains maps now is the result of a bug. And in that case, it'll probably get fixed pretty soon.
-
Phazey, there are spam-maps. You can teamplay on every map. Infantry will get bored waiting until end of map while cav and archers are dead and after 3 minuts of waiting, you can play. It's not fair that every 5 maps, 4 or them are random-plains. It destroy the game.
On maps like nordtown, portassault you have different ways to go to avoid cav or avoid archers. You know you can. In random-plains you have to hide behind a tree and wait for spam-end. Cav and archers like this map a lot. Of course, there is no way to play with infantry on it.
-
These maps are rediculously one sided at times and the auto-balance can't cope as it doesn't count for map biased.
With regards to tactics, I don't believe that teams really go for them during these maps, i've seen many times that people just full on charge or they attack in drips and drabs getting cut down. One team normally has a nice sized hill to sit on top of and shoot down thus meaning that the other team is at a massive disadvantage before anything actually even happens.
If the map is flat, then one team normally gets more cav, these guys just waddle around and take down most of the team no matter how good the tactics are sometimes you're just completely outclassed due to the balance of the players and classes you have at your disposal.
As much as I like the fact that you're trying to put in more variaty i'm fed up of seeing these maps and i've started to sit out in spectator every time they come on.

Jep! Without a shield, plains maps are horrible. I suggest getting a shield, even a lowbie shield can catch a few arrows for you.
I'm kinda glad i always go at least shield 2 on my polearm alt and my 2h guy. To be honest, as an archer, i kinda dislike the plains maps. Makes me feel vulnerable and exposed. Love them as shielder and cav though.
-
Why a player that don't use shield is forced to take a shield because every archer/xbower spam, and you don't have any chance of defend? Hiding behind a tree? Ridiculous. That maps are boring, and I think a lot of people think the same.
-
Well, shields are part of the game and is the counter to arrows. If you choose not to use shield you will have to endure the "ranged spam".
-
Well perhaps some people do. Let's see what the poll says in a while.
I'm never bored on a plains map and like the variation they bring, compared to overplayed maps like Ruins and Field by the River, biased camp maps like Village and all those village maps. I'm just absolutely bored with those. And to say that a plains map is unbalanced? Hah, check how unbalanced most default maps are! Compared to that (villages and camp towers), a hillcamp is hardly a defence. Nothing a good surround can't handle.
Flat plains biased because one side has more cav? Hah, archer positions with a few pikes can deal with that.
Love some of the new maps, like the ones Mustikki made. They offer a welcome change, even though they are a bit heavy on the decorations, thus lowering framerate slightly.
But if i'm forced to play Ruined Fort one more time, i'll scream. I'm really, really bored with many of the default maps and i really, really like the variation most random plains maps bring. Fresh maps with random geography are fun. They make me think about what plans might work, they make my team want to try tactics because those are very effective on plains maps and it offers a bit of refreshing variation to most stale and overplayed maps.
But that's just my personal opinion ofcourse.
-
I want them to go away. :(
-
Random generated maps are great, particularly the ones with rivers.
Shield walls are awesome and this is really the only map you see them on since on other maps every one just hides behind the corner of buildings/roofs
-
Random plains are nice, but there have to be some kind of tactical points to make it interesting. Just plain plains with smaller hills here and there is just plain boring.
-
The current abundace of random plains is caused by bugged maps that appear in the rotation yet were removed from scenes with the last patch, causing a random map to be generated instead. I am now reviewing the EU1 rotation, should fix it tonight. Random plains will still be available, but as frequent as a normal map, not once every 3-4 maps like the current situation.
-
stop complaining, both sides have cavalry, what's your problem, i was playing EU_1 for a good half of the day yesterday and there was around 3 plains maps that entire day, the plains maps are really fun, you think every battle is fought in a village...
-

NoooOOooOOo!
Aww too bad. And hey, the poll is at 14 pro and 11 con votes on the plains maps. So please make them as common as you dare! Please? Pretty please with sugar on top? Maybe one in five or something? :D
-
alright, so you're saying you want every map to be a village map, village maps suck, as Phazey said, it's always the same shit, archers on roofs, people hide in small groups until they're the last ones left, always someone with a hammer so it's next to impossible to get into the tower, i hate these maps but you don't see me making a thread to get rid of the village maps, there are more village maps than there are plains, i say leave it as it is, there's not even that many in rotation...
-
Better than village maps.
IIT Archers on roof tops
2hander and polearms dominate
-

Because this is how game balance works.Anyway on strategus you will be forced to use shield.
-
random plains = teamplay = fun,
-
Guys who have allergy towards using shield are going tog et buttfucked when strat starts up again.

Hey punisher, just crazy idea: can we generate plains maps that also include an occasional structure (like the ruins on Field by the River). That way, the random plains maps would get even more interesting and the camping archers among us have a ruin to hide in?
-
Plane maps(not only random) are the only ones where Teamwork and leadership have higher weight than personal skill. I have the most fun on them when the armies are lead properly, if its just random charging I dont care for them more than for any other noob map.
meh.
-
Phaz and Torben. Not that I don't respect your opinions, I do, but you are also both pretty much solid cav players....
-
Yep, i admit i'm biased. But random plains are sooo much fuuun!
-

Sadly no, but don't worry, there will still be plenty of random plains, just more spread over the rotation. Currently there are even 3 in a row.
-
Its not about plains , its about the size of this maps.
Before when i saw random plains i would quit or spectate, it was to boring for my style of play, but lately there are new plains, smaller in size and with less chances to camp one spot( hills ).
So players are forced to fight rather then staying behind shield wall and waiting for last minutes to do something.
I would vote for random plains , but only if there size is smaller.

I'm talking about REMOVING SPAM. Removing Spam is different to remove random-plains. I think it's not hard to understand.

As you can see, is a bug.

No it ain't, which is what everyone in your post realize and have fixed.
What you do not realize is that we realized it already and have moved on. Be happy!
-
Bugged maps removed and rearraged random plains a bit to avoid 3 random plains maps in a row situations. For the concerned, there are still 14 random plains in both EU1 and EU2 rotation.

+1 exactly my thoughts. plain maps feel much more like real battles.

I'm having a lot of fun with my main without shield. Wouldn't know what to do without them trees, though.

I agree with Phazey, torben and the others. The game is only really fun with the teamwork and maneuvering that occurs in random maps. The player created and town camp maps create snorefests, including strength stackers with crushthrough camping the door and other boring stuff. In fact, one could say that mount and blade was balanced for the plains maps. If vanilla was balanced for the plains map, then infantry should not have a problem in crpg with weaker cav and archers. Inf players have picked up too many bad habits by being spoiled with campable roofs and cluttered city maps.
I am really starting to envy the euros. Maybe I should just grin and bear the crippling lag just to enjoy these beautiful plains maps. I wish OP can swap locations with me. I can play plains, while he can play the corner camping, claustrophobic, badly designed, invisible walls galore, glitching roof fest maps that make up NA's lineup. When these maps come up, I sit out or move to EU. Especially the "lol Cav" maps which FORCE cav to dismount through the use of unclimbable stairs that lead to the main fighting areas conveniently on the roofs.
In fact, this is too good, I am heading to EU now. Is this Eu1 and Eu2 only? Or other servers?
-
Well ofcourse Phaz and Torben support these maps, they are cav. And ofcourse i hate them like most of the shieldless people.
Fact is: there is simply too many, i dont mind every third map being random plains but 3 in a row? Cmon that is not fair. There should be an equal ammount of cav/infantry maps wich is not the case atm.

Thanks, can you please remove that abominatio of a map, cant remember what its called but let me say how it looks maybe you can remeber: its a steep slope with ruins and a river, one team spawns at high ground, the other spawns at low ground across the river i think the most memorable landmark is the realy narrow bridge (like planks) that people frequently fall of when crossing the river.
-
Random Plains shouldn't be taken out altogether, but the frequency they appear needs to be cut because they appear rather too often and they do heavily favour cavalry except in the rare instance where very steep hills are generated.
It's curious that the usual response of Native players to random plains with lots of cavalry is to camp the map edge and watch all the horses bang into the invisible wall, which is considered a valid tactic, but you almost never see cRPG players do this presumably because they see it as glitching and cheating.
-
Yes lets go back to always having village maps because everyone is an infantryman.
It's retarded...random plains maps are great. It's been boring as hell for a long time playing CRPG because of those stupid village maps. Throw in a bit of variation. Have some open, some half, some closed. That way everyone is happy. No more one than the other. Otherwise it's just dull and boring for any particular build.
-
so i've been playing warband for most of the day, EU_1, the new rotation of maps is rediculous, in the sense of variation of maps, todays rotation, village map, village map, village map, something like ruins, village map, village map, village map, something like ruins, then all the maps consist of is camping, camp this roof, camp this tower, camp this boat, of course there are the odd exceptions but come on, where are the plains maps in this new rotation, 1 in every 10 or something, village maps are seriously boring, why spread the plains maps out so much, why not 1 in 5 or something, it seems to be the same maps all the time aswell, there are plenty of maps, why am i seeing the exact same ones everytime i play, please review the rotation and make it fair for everyone, there are loads of people who would like more plains maps, i know this wasn't an official poll but the majority voted no, yet they were changed anyway, this isn't a rage post as such, i would just like the rotation to be fair...
-
I'd like to point out that the large majority voted NOT to remove the 'random-plains spam'.
Could we have a few more random plains style maps in the map rotation please?
-
You two are cavalry... so ofc you would want want random plains. Stop beein' biased.
-
the fact is that we're now seeing next to no plains maps, all we're asking is that a fair amount is spread through out the rotation, there are plenty of non cav players who also like plains...
You two are cavalry... so ofc you would want want random plains. Stop beein' biased.
what a stupid comment, i could say, you're infantry, of course you want less random plains, stop been biased, the village maps tend to favour infantry and archers, of course the plains maps favour cavalry, so what, is it fair that the majority of the maps are at a disadvantage to cavalry, like i said in my last post, we just want a fair amount of plains maps to be added into the rotation, i think it is a fair request...
-
remove siege/town maps from battle ...
-
Currently there are 14 random plains in EU1 rotation, that's about 3 times more than a normal map. Even more often on EU2 since it has a shorter rotation.
-
I don't mind the random plain maps but they would be more interesting with some ruins or houses between the spawning points.
But then they would not be random plains ofc... so I suggest that "random plains with houses" should be added to the map rotations as well.

The only things true is that EU1 and EU2 have random plains maps. The rest of opinion and theory.
