Wouldn't it be a better idea for people to duel whenever they want within a 1 or 2 day period? Someone could call an event admin to watch/judge or just take screenshots of the kills.

why the crappy 15 000 gold armor restriction? You can barely have any armor at that cost. You're seriously advantaging the native feintspam bundles of sticks and agiwhores. Might as well call it a native tournament.
Title: Re: EU Melee Duel Tournament
Post by: Senni__Ti on June 05, 2014, 12:38:50 am
You can still exceed 50 armour in head body and leg, it's not too bad. (with looms)
Definitely not native :P

Though this does heavily favour the many gen players. 0 loom players with be stuck with sub 50 body, unless they cripple some other area.

I guess it's just too hard to enforce 0 looms or the organizers want to allow them for other reasons.

You're kidding me right? In native duels to wear cloth and die in basicly 1 hit. This is VERY far from that, but i supose that it is very different, from what you usually wear, since you're a complete tincan. If you have the skills however, then the gear should not matter much, since you should depend on your skill making sure you survive and don't get hit, instead of counting on the armor to soak it all up.

PS: Agiwhore duels is by far more fun than str duels, and that especially counts for c-rpg, since the combat is alrdy pretty slow. A strwhore duel would be an endurance test more than anything, not much skill involved to block at that phase.

Yeah I don't expect an agi bundle of sticks like you who relies on fast hiltslashes and lolstab-backpeddle-explode-your-nose-with-my-op-thrusts to understand what I meant. I won't even bother to explain why I think this is a bad rule, not to you, because you don't even deserve enough of my attention for that.

PS: sorry for using this thread as such, I will leave it to the organisers to judge whether it should be changed or not. I can detail my opinion if that's necessary.

However, I do have a question. Is there a specific TS used during this event and if so is it already known or hasn't it been decided yet?
There will be a TS. Maybe we gonna do 2 separate channels. One channel for the current duellists and another channel for the cheering masses. Certainly be more fun, entertaining and a good reason to actually watch the duels.

May i know if the loomed items are allowed?
I may have missed the rule...   :?
Looms are allowed but with 1 restriction:

Maximum armor shop-value of 15,000 (no limit on weapons)

Reason for them being allowed is only cuz we lack the possibility to check the loom-status of armor (hopefully that may change in the future).
Preferably future events will be mostly loom-free to give everyone the same chances, especially non-veterans of the mod.

You might want to think about using a different map and staging two duels or even more simultaneously. It seems like we are looking at like 60 participants so far, with the potential for a good deal more. The last tournament had Ft7's, which is 13 duels max, and one match lasted about 20-30 minutes usually. With 9 duels max and lower armour you are probably still looking at an average match time of at least 10 minutes.

60 participants with single elimination should be 59 matches. So that is 590 minutes if you assume a 10 minute average duel time and assume everything else goes smoothly, which is very optimistic. 590 minutes is a 6 hour tournament in the very least. If you were to divide the duels over two pits you could probably cut the duration down to like 3-4 hours and go back to one duel pit once you hit the quarterfinals. You could even go as far as to doing 4 pits so you could fit it all into one session.

Of course it is nice to have everyone watch every single duel, but with this amount of participants you risk losing a whole load of participants due to not being able to be present for a bunch of different sessions. If you want I could create a map with any number of lowered down pits, blocked off by invisible walls with room for spectators.

In any case

If you edit textures of loomed items in the way that the heirloom pack has done, you should be able to place like a pink dot on every loomed item. Distribute this texture pack to referees and you got easy loom checking forever. It is a bit of tedious work, but you could divide the effort and then it's no big deal. If someone tech savvy figures out how to do it and sends me the instructions and an item group that I should do, I'll help. I'm sure there's a few others.

It's easier to just edit 1 armour/helmet, 1 pair of gloves/boots and overwrite every +0. Would take least amount of time from among the possibilities of introducing "no-looms" rule, you'd need another person for checking what is actual eq of the participant and if it's allowed though.

Alright I'm back from my weekend trip.

Silly me forgot to add that NA Players are excluded, since I believe you will have your own. This is EU only

To be very clear, the Tournament will start on Saturday June 14th. During the first session Round 1 will be played (and maybe some of the Round 2 if we have time). Round 2 till be continued on Sunday June 15th. If you're not present for a round you will lose the round due to W.O.
YOU HAVE TO BE THERE FOR EACH SESSION WHILE YOU ARE STILL IN THE TOURNAMENT.

Each session will be extended by one hour.

I've taken for granted that the name you sign up with in your post is the name of your STF character. If it's not, edit your post with your STF name.

I will add the current participants list in the second post now. Check if your name is there, if it's not (remember I excluded NA players) and if it isn't, please send a PM so I can correct it.

Edit: Personally I'd make my Tournament Character theme based, just a tip for all you people that don't min-max.

Announcement!

Gonna update the list tomorrow and shuffle all seeds and prepare the brackets for Saturday. Signs ups will officially close 18:00 tomorrow (Friday)

NEW MAP for the tournament (made by Teeth):

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

(click to show/hide)

There is invisible walls around the duel pits, so you can only enter a pit using the stairs. Obviously it is strictly forbidden to enter the pits if you are not fighting in a match. If this happens during a match you will be banned immediately.

As you can see we will use three different pits for the duels. We will announce in Admin Chat when your match is up and which pit to go to, for example: "STF_RED VS STF_BLUE IN PIT #1".

According to this site (http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/europe/turkey/istanbul/time/), Istanbul is GMT+3. Meaning you take the GMT+2 and add 1 hour to get Istanbul time (GMT+3).

You can buy with your main and transfer the gear or you can transfer gold and buy with your STF. Up to you.

These 2 are most important tho.

Important!

Map hasnt been implemented yet as I cannot find it in the map list so therefor we are changing the map to Field by the River for this session.

The duel area will be here:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

(click to show/hide)

Anyone that enters the duel area while not fighting a match will be kicked from the server.

Thanks for today. It was a bit messy, but we did get 48 duels done. Thanks everyone for coming.

Check the bracket (http://challonge.com/ocrpg1v1) for tomorrow.

Tomorrow we will do the rest of round 2 (again, check if your in round 2) and the entire round 3. When we get the third round done the session will be over, even if we finish earlier than the 3 hour session.

In the future you might want to set up some clear rules about what will happen if someone is a no show and if someone disconnects during a fight.

Right now about half of round 2 fights got postponed which i can't really see a good reasoning for especially considering that you eliminate people who didn't show up today and got placed in the first round however those who were lucky enough to be placed in 2nd and didn't show up get to stay on.

Imo best way would be to just give everyone 3 minutes to show up for a fight and if they don't their out. We could easily have the tournament done during the weekend, now we gotta deal with no shows again tommorow and it will extend into the next week but whatever you want the rules to be you should make them clear from the start , this was very messy but as a first tournament I suppose it's a nice learning experience for the future.

Thats what we did for round 1 matches. The reason we postponed round 2 matches that had no-shows, rather than DQ people, is that there was significant misunderstanding/miscommunication on what day the round 2 matches would be on.

I didn't get a chance to record a bunch of the duels sadly but this is what I had so I mashed it together quickly and slapped some epix music on because I don't know what else to put on. I also tried to record Teuten's epic donkey race but sadly Shadowplay tricked me; really want to have some footage of any cRPG event so there's some nostalgia for later in life visitors can't see pics , please register or login

If there's time I'll do my best to try and capture the last matches of the tournament and put some highlights together for a quick video.

No fancy editing etc though, takes too long then visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I agree it is easier and better and not as boring to wait two hours for a game. It's basically how it works in real life with indoor football tournaments, if you've ever participated in those. You play one game and wait three hours for next game. It sucks and we are aware of it.

This time we wanted to make an event for everyone to come and most importantly, test our raffle system. In the future however, I'd love to see a major 1v1 tournament with double elimination, where you schedule your own matches with deadlines etc.

Only 1 thing tournament duels seems to be more dull then normal duels no one dares to hold attack or chamber and other spicy stuff :(

By all respect, this system causes huge lags for most of the players because there will be 70 + people on one server. And everyone knows that this tournament makes no sense if people are having lags.

Because you missed the match day. He was there and you weren't. And since we've disqualified others for the same reason before why exactly should you be treated differently?

You missed it - bad luck. But there won't be any chances for people suddenly turning up.
We might do the whole tournament differently the next time but for this tournament, there are fixed days and times you have/had to appear.
Title: Re: EU Melee Duel Tournament
Post by: wayyyyyne on June 16, 2014, 12:08:29 pm
You're ahead of schedule anyway with two rounds having taken place on one single day. You wouldn't have to reverse any of the results if you let people duel who simply couldn't manage to show up for their last duel at some arbitrarily set time.
I can guarantee you people won't necessarily have time for, say, the finals either and is that really the kinda tournament you want? A duel against time and not actual opponents?
Title: Re: EU Melee Duel Tournament

We will definitely not do it like this next time. I personally dislike doing tournaments like events and prefer players to freely schedule their matches.

I can see why players got kicked on the first day because that would have delayed the secound round taking place the same day as a whole but why now? There literally won't be any difference if I duelled Beleg_something before the next round starts.

This time we wanted to make an event for everyone to come and most importantly, test our raffle system.

No you're not making an event for everyone if you insist on rigid times for the duels to take place effectively exculding those who simply don't match their free time accordingly with yours.

Just ask Thorondor if he'd be willing to do it within the next days or something. I'll be fine with being excluded this time if he declines because I didn't show up after all but if he doesn't there's no reason not to pretend I showed up in time.

I can see where the whole idea of this tournament was going. Whose ever idea it was to give people one(1) specific and one(1) time only to show up for their duels obviously wanted to put the public into public event.
Admittedly, the past duel tournaments weren't exactly high in spectator numbers or anything because the participants were given almost complete freedom when to take their duels up with their adversary thus pretty much limiting those tournaments to their participants.
Too bad the organisators failed to realise (too late?) that hardly anyone would have time every single day they needed them to yet were unable or, more likely, unwilling to change anything when adjustments to that would have still adhered to their greater idea of a public community event.
Honestly, I can't see anyone being happy the way this tournament turned out except for those who didn't have to face off against bloody death, qoray, fisk and all the other high profile players.
All this whole event section has spawned so far is people circle-jerking and one incredibly needy admin

(click to show/hide)
All I can say from my side is that you're free to stay away from whatever tournament we're planning in the future if you don't like the way we do things. Actually, I would highly appreciate it personally.

Every single one participating in this tournament was friendly, forthcoming and kind during all match days. You on the other hand were nothing but a disturbance, an annoyance for everyone. Maybe you should give that a thought?

It has been explained why we do this the way we did it several times. And as Bagge already said, we're not willing to repeat it constantly for those not willing or not able to read. my personal guess is that you belong to the latter group.

Nonetheless, ofc you're free to participate in the upcoming tournaments as you see fit. BUT... I suggest a change in attitude.

I won't take notice nor react to any following posts you gonna make on this topic. If you dislike me personally, that is your good right, I'd like to ask you tho to stop pestering everyone else with your biased negativity.

Have a good evening.

I just rerereread your post carefully but all I can see is you acting uppity and high and mighty because someone isn't sucking it up to you on the internet. No points I made were adressed.

Your tournament was shit and you're in denial about it. You could have changed something making it a better experience for everyone but no, you decided to be a bitch jerking off over your newly gained admin rights.

Like how fucking hard would it have been to reschedule the duels that didn't take place on one day for the next one?
That's really my one and only complaint and I fail to understand how you would not comply to that when there's literally nothing to be gained, from an organisatory point of view, from insisting on "lol ur out ;))))"

As a quick side-note:

I asked Bagge and Tydeus to handle anything related to Wayyyyne in the future.
Consequently, he's on my ignore list now.

Butthurt he got DQ'ed, oh when will it end.
Mad cuz DQ'ed? He didn't even sign up for the Tournament, he's just a substitute.

I can see where the whole idea of this tournament was going. Whose ever idea it was to give people one(1) specific and one(1) time only to show up for their duels obviously wanted to put the public into public event.
Yeah, we wanted the first official tournament to be a large public event. That's pretty much 100% what it was. If your problem is with the format, which is certainly what seems to be the case, then I suggest paying attention to the format a little more. Oh right, you actually joined the tournament without knowing anything about it because you were just a substitute for some drop-out.

Don't worry, this isn't the last duel tournament. We'll definitely be doing another within the next 6 months.

Wayyne I've already said and agreed it sucks to DQ players and I hate doing tournaments like events. This was more of an opening act before our headliner (5v5 tournament), that is why we didn't allow second chances or rescheduling matches, we simply didn't have the time for it.

Again, I'm sorry if you didn't enjoy it and I hope you will enjoy the next one if you will take part of it. I promise, the next tournament will grant you more freedom and allow you to schedule matches.

Really? Then this agression towards the organizers makes even less sense, since they all took out some of their time to organize a tournament for everyone.

Yeah, we wanted the first official tournament to be a large public event. That's pretty much 100% what it was.

No it wasn't. Maybe up to like 90% because it effectively excluded those who didn't happen to have free time when it took place.
And wasn't it painfully obvious, just mathematically speaking, that not everybody would have time for all your set dates?
Disqualifying people with no chance for them to do it on the next scheduled date was a shot you hit your own leg with. It would have cost you nothing in time. Whether a duel takes place on one date or the other, it's literally the same in effort you have to put into organizing it. The only difference would have been that one would have been more of a community event than the other.

edit: btw I really don't know how me being a substitute changes anything of what I've said, but hey

this game doesn't benefit your life in anyway.
winning or losing in the tournament doesn't benefit your life in anyway.
winning or losing in public servers doesn't benefit your life in anyway.

please understand this, it has no effect so just enjoy the game for what it is.

games are for taking a break from reality and should make you happy atleast, so why be mad bro?

wayyyyyne_the_intolerant

yeh it wasn´t perfect but we´re just happy these kind of tournaments actually take place after all the time. We still had some very intense fights and some crazy bets  :o
Just deal with it, the tournament is over now. They´ll get better anyways

Yeah me too. We could do one, but it'd be such a mess to admin if you don't have premade gear for your faction

Wasn't there something called Battleground or something? Never really knew what it is but I think it was for themed battles and stuff.
Alternatively, maybe Harald could  give 2 event managers who aren't involved in Strat 2 army sets of gear and teleport us in some corner of the map where we attack each other at a specific time to get the battle going.
I'm not involved in Strat... :P

Gratz to Chase and good job to Nia7 (Witch) i'm happy after beating me that you went to the final !

And i'm glad to see that it's a "real" crpg player who won. So at least we can see the stuff quite often in public servers ! :)

Thanks for the organisation. (even if we saw that some things need to be fixed) Thanks a lot !

Congratz to Chase and not Nia7. I agree with herezy that it´s nice that a "real" crpg player reached the final.

But I am not really happy with this tournament. Ofc admins tried to organise something, but although it was already said several times I can just say that they failed it in some points. Setting matches to one specific date is definetely not good.  Especially because it´s the time of the world campionship in football. In these 4 years just christmas would have been worse.

It´s really nice that you have done something in the crpg community, but pls listen more often to others in the next time :P
