every time im in-game or browsing the forums. i cant help but take offense to the endless open discrimination of LGBT. it is sad that some players feel the need to attribute those of a different sexual orientation to things we hate or dislike. this Homophobia is disgusting and unnecessary.


i believe we should change, id like to ask everyone to please stop the hate filled words, If something or someone in-game upsets you, don't say "thats gay" or "your gay". please, we should stop labelling ranged players as "f aggots" not only is this a misused derogatory word, but it will offend and upset those who are actually homosexual.


lets turn this communitiy into a mature and kind place for people of all kinds!

Just to play devil's advocate here...

Even as a straight male I've said, and heard other straight men use words in a derogatory way, about things we actually like "Pussy" (which straight men generally consider a good thing).  Or saying something sucks (when we generally all agree that getting sucked is great, and not at all a negative thing)

There's a sensitivity to derogatory terms that doesn't transfer over online in my brain. Even in real life, whenever I hear someone say these terms, I usually read it in my head with a joking manner. But that depends on the environment. I'm sure my real life friends and a large majority of the cRPG community don't give a single fuck about your sexual orientation. We could easily joke about things that are equally offensive to heterosexual members.

That doesn't make it okay to discriminate against others based on sexual preference. I myself have a hard time drawing the line as to whether I continue using these terms at the risk of offending someone who is actually LGBT. I believe intentions can be skewed and misread, such as when I refer to others as "my old friend", I usually mean that in a friendly manner. The distinction between it being used in either manner, friendly and as an insult, can lead to a certain cognitive dissonance that is either morally disturbing, or lead to a gratifying feeling to call someone who you acknowledge as a friend to be a "bundle of sticks" whenever he does something "gay" or simply funny.

It's definitely a controversial subject. I wish it would be examined more, as I myself don't know the dominant connotation to such words.

Yeah I don't typically use the word "my old friend" or bundle of sticks when I talk (even though I did in a joking manner when I was younger).  I do sometimes call things "gay" in a derogatory manner, but I have nothing against gay people (In the same way I call someone a pussy, but I generally like pussies).  Hell I have gay friends, I even volunteered hours of my time to help pass the marriage equality act in my home state.

I agree discrimination is bad, but when you're just kidding, it's not really the same as discriminating against someone.  I have nothing against jews, but I still refer to someone being/doing something stingy as being jewish. 

There's a difference between being an insensitive asshole and being a bigot who discriminates against people based on your stereotypical beliefs.  I choose to believe I'm the former.

I came pretty close to quitting this mod last year because some player decided to sexually harassed me for a week straight (it was bad, I couldn't play the game without him saying some really evil shit to me) and the three NA admins I talked too did absolutely nothing. Khorin is a nice person and talked me out of it while also promising me if the player did it again they'd be punished, I informed that player and it stopped.

Two out of those three admins apologized once I confronted them about what happened, but the third one is notorious for grudges and completely ignored everything I ever said about the issue to him.
