Title: What have you played recently?
Post by: [ptx] on February 17, 2014, 10:22:38 pm
As title says - what other newer games have you tried recently and what are your impressions/short review of those?

I'll start:

Lost Planet 3:
I had played the first game in the franchise, and, whilst it was fun to a point, i never finished it, as i didn't enjoy it that much, so i was quite reluctant about even getting into this one. Ended up being pleasantly surprised as this game is quite a bit of fun 3rd person shooter. There are a few irritating things about it (such as the pretty poor cover system), but i enjoyed it quite a bit, completing the entire campaign (+sidequests and a lot of other completionist stuff) on hard. Good stuff.

Agarest: Generations of War:
It's... anime... /uninstall

Alien Rage: Unlimited:
A somewhat average, but potentially fun first person shooter. Sadly, it is terribly optimized and wouldn't run decently on my system even on the lowest settings.

Legends of Aethereus:
Probably intended as some sort of MMO. Story sounds like something a boring 10 year would come up with, everything generally looks ugly as fuck and the combat is super lame. I don't understand why this exists.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow:
A 3rd person slasher. Might be fun, might be not, it failed to really draw me in, so i got bored with it after a couple of levels.

Rise of Venice:
A trading simulator. It's okay'ish, but i feel it's just too shallow to keep attention for more than an evening or two. Almost feels like a smartphone/tablet game.

Demonicon:
A 3rd person action-RPG. Has some flaws, but i was quickly drawn into it. Reminds me a lot of Witcher, except the combat is a 3rd person slasher with some magic inbetween. Finished on hard with all the sidequests done, had good fun. If you liked the first Witcher, you will probably like this one as well.

The Banner Saga:

Nice story, atmosphere and setting. Feels like it has good replay value as the choices affect the way the game proceeds. Decent enough turn based combat

Loadout:

Haven't really played enough to have much of an opinion, but for a free game it seems worth a try. Fast paced multiplayer fps action with lots of customisation options for weapons and appearance

Insurgency:

Again haven't played enough but I like what I played so far. Old school realism based FPS

The Wold Among Us - Episode 2:

I felt it was a bit short and took way too long to materialise, but its still worth a play. If you're on the fence about it i'd wait until they are all released and play through the whole lot one after the other. I forgot half of what happened in the first one by the time the second came out. I think episodic games only work when they come out regularly or if you wait until they are all completed

Err.. I only have a laptop that can run RuneScape (lol), it cant even run Neverwinter (D& D MMO thingy).. But whenever im @ home I play World of Tanks, and I have c-RPG installed @ my mates place.

Basically all I do is play rs on laptop, do some photoshop on laptop or watch netflix on ipad.. No real gaming anymore sadly :S since my pc went to heaven(he served me well for years) I havent really played anything actively. Oh and I play Terraria at times, but it gets old quick on your own..

Aint bad tho, gaming a little less :P was a proper no-lifer in my c-rpg prime! Easy 15 hrs/day :P (which I can still easily pull off - I swear by godthat time goes in 5th gear when im playing a game

Dota 2:
Unbalanced crap full of useless imbeciles who never heard of teamwork.

cRPG:
Semi-balanced mod filled with useless morons who cant gank a man properly 6 vs 1 after 3 years of playing the god damn game.

LoL:
Cartoony MOBA balanced way better then Dota but with stupid looking midget/children "heroes", really makes you feel like a kid playing a GAME.

Dota 2:
ebani mamku))) idi nahui cyka bljat nedu pidor chuvak

Insurgency:
Good realistic FPS for a cheap price

Project Zomboid:
Great zombie survival simulator, now actually with multiplayer as well.

Hearthstone:
Cool and simple online card game.

DayZ:
Got the basics down but still needs a ton of work.

Interstellar Marines:
Needs a fuckload of work, very very early in development.

The Banner Saga

Great art style and atmosphere, pretty good interactive story and turn based combat, would recommend if you haven't tryed it yet.

Inquisitor

For me it's one of the best isometric RPGs released in the recent years but it might not be for everyone, really heavy on reading and the combat system is not that great

The newest thing I played was some kickstarter games still in beta, like
Castle story: builder with cartoony yellow characters but allows you to build castles on floating islands.
Timber and stone: block by block sandbox build a town/defend from mobs, shitty graphics, interesting to build a few things.
They are ok, but pretty buggy and still unfinished. Mostly liked the sandboxy build a big thing bits.

NHL'14 on xbox. It's pretty much the only good new game since warband. Mostly I just play old good games.

Payday 2

Very fun if you play it with 3 friends on teamspeak. Too few heists though.

Recently went through:
CoD: Ghosts SP - Whilst i am ok with spending a few hours with a complete brainless shooter, this one is probably the worst one in the series so far, ugh.
Battlefield 4 SP - Definitely better and a lot more fun than the above, good enough fun for an evening or two.
March of the Eagles - Basically a stripped down version of Victoria II, focused completely on warfare in Europe during the Napoleonic era. Can complete a playthrough in a couple of evenings, don't see much replayability in this.
Battleworlds: Kronos - a very simplistic turn based strategy/tactics game, felt too shallow for me to get past a few levels.
How to Survive - An initially fun rpg/action game, that soon turns tedious and repetitive because of the frustrating inventory system and repetitive, challengeless combat (once you get something like a carbon crossbow + a (what's-it-called, three-sided boomerang thing). Fun for a couple of evenings.
