That's cuz the 2 dudes who make Southpark wrote the story and took lead on the whole project.

They said in an interview that they wanted a game that looks and feels exactly like a Southpark episode. Everything is original!

what's really cool it looks like they made or atleast attempted to make a real RPG but with a South Park twist, like when you buy at Craigs store and he greets you "hello weary traveler" simply genius, you should really watch the whole thing Molly

It's gonna be cut! Censored! 7 scenes are taken out! For everyone, except the US!

And before anyone is going "Uhh, I just gonna get the UK version!" - nope - cut too. Same for Austrian version which would be a popular choice for everyone German... All European versions are cut and from the article I read it seems that only the US version is uncut.

Taken out are 7 scenes where pregnancy abortions happen as some kind of mini-game and scenes where you are anal-probing NPCs.

One of the rawest and insulting series of the TV history gets a game and Ubisoft cuts it. Wasn't the choice of the developer obviously. Ubisoft made that decision.

I am disappoint.

Each censored scene is replaced by an image background and a description text selected by Matt & Trey.

Most likely it will still be pretty funny and not spoil the game

Why not just torrent the US version and buy the game as usual. I agree, it's annoying to have to go to such lengths but hey....fuck censorship.

Apparently the PC version will not be censored...just console.

Yup. PC version is unaffected. Confirmed here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/02/26/south-park-game-censored/

Also, stop preordering games. Especially this one. As much as I love Obsidian, you should never preorder their games.

I loved their spy game nonetheless. Didn't preorder but got it early after release.
And I actually think this will be different since the Southpark creators are strongly involved and watching over their shoulders... It's gonna be fine!

Now, where do I get my UK copy? :D

EDIT: Alpha Protocol... the name of their spy game... just remembered! :D It has an awesome story. Gameplay is something you need to get used to but the rest is really good.

It won't take long for it to get a more reasonable price on cd key seller websites, and it will probably still work with Steam depending on the key

Actually its £25 on some website atm off google shopping

Don't see what's wrong about 40€ on release. A normal price, and it's much better than games like CoD which cost 60€ on release and still has the same price months ago (steam/maybe even Amazon prices).

If the game can take 20-40 hours the price is alright.

When buying a new movie its 8-15€ and it only takes 1-2 hours to watch.^^
A visit to the cinema costs the same and takes the same time. ;)

EDIT:

Bottom Line: South Park: The Stick of Truth could stand alone as an extended episode of the show. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends on how funny you think Trey Parker and Matt Stone are. For fans of the show, this is a seriously impressive game.

Recommendation: That should be obvious by now. Do you like South Park? Yes or no. Your answer is exactly what mine would be if you asked me whether or not you should buy it.

As I said before: I am a SP fanboy. I gonna love it :P

EDIT: Just had a go with a "test version" and it's awesome :D The combat is pretty cool and not even that easy, the characters are just adorable and the whole atmosphere basically screams Southpark in your direction! :D It's a must have for every fan of the show...

I've played about 4 hours of it so far and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The comedy is hilarious and the game feels like an actual South Park Episode. Level 8 at the moment with a Warrior Sword, just last level I was using a anal probing dildo. Combat is fun and interactive, some QTEs and reaction button clicking for blocking and using skills. The game can be pretty hard at first but gets easier once you get use to it.

The controls are a little wonky and I'm even usually a controller, I find myself fumbling over the menus and out of combat skill selection. Background music is kind of annoying after a while once you've heard it x1000 times. There is also quite a bit of walking and sometimes it's not always clear where you're suppose to actually go, the map helps with that but it's not convenient, as for the walking they luckily have fast travel points but even then walking around the town is tiresome.

More of my complaints are minor, the game so far has been great especially if you love South Park and there humor. A lot of South Park references so if you watch South Park youll get a lot of inside jokes.

8.5/10

Yea, some swatikas slipped through the black bars of censorship. It's ridiculous. Movies use them, claiming to be historical but in games? Hell no, some kid is going to see a cute puppy and instantly turn into a chocolate chip cookie-Skinhead. Ofc reading about it and seeing them in history schoolbooks is different too cuz #yolo...

Well, my keyseller promised me a key of the uncut version, so I am still hoping they don't actually do an IP check but only a key check instead. Worked like a charm on several games already, for example Sleeping Dogs...

Anyway, I'll see tomorrow I guess.

Until then I'll stick to my NA-test version with my level 3 Jew :)
(Actually wanted to avoid playing too much in advance, waiting for my own game "to arrive".)

And Sequels review is actually very close to my impression. The game is simply must have for a fan but surprisingly enough it's even a good game overall. It's full of references to the series, everything is instantly recognizable, it has some weak spots like the map but I don't really mind the walking so much cuz there is always a detail you haven't admired before.
My impression is that they actually enjoyed making this game a lot and you can see it in the many many details they've placed inside the world.

From me, it is clear recommendation for everyone who likes Southpark and it's humour ("Cartman, I'm a healer, you can't just make me a Blacksmith!" "Token, it is so obvious that you're a Blacksmith. Though I can't even tell why...") which is surrounding you everywhere.

I Love it! With the minor things not being perfect, the 8.5/10 is a well deserved score. Being even higher for fans of the show.

Yea, those environment moves you could do... well, some of them were. Like pressing the face into the ventilator...

Anyway, for those who end up with the censored version, here is an article which shows (SPOILER!) the censored scenes and compares them to the censored game and how it looks. German voice over tho...

The cuts of the interactive scenes was a decision by Ubisoft and not by any rating agent (PEGI/USK).
Ubisoft showed them the uncut version, got 18+ rating, cut those scenes by themselves, showed them the game again, got 18+ again.
I suspect that they tried to get it to a 16-rating and failed miserably and now they seem the be afraid to admit that for some reason.

Pile of horse shit!

I have had my fair share of game play by now and the 18+ rating is okay. It makes sense. And those six 20 seconds scenes they cut don't change anything with the rest of the content...
Title: Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
Post by: IR_Kuoin on March 09, 2014, 01:22:40 pm
How could they even make a South Park game without the 18+ rating ...
Title: Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
Post by: Miwiw on March 09, 2014, 02:52:54 pm
Well, when running on German TV, South Park is said to be 16+ however when they show the original English episodes they aren't cut. The German translation isn't censored either as far as I see (of course it's far more enjoyable to watch South Park on English).

But games in Germany easily get a 16+ rating if not a 18+, especially when it comes to violence.
Title: Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
Post by: Prpavi on March 09, 2014, 03:25:57 pm
so what's wrong with 18+ rating it only helped games and albums in the past, I see no reason why they would want to avoid 18+ rating.

on the other hand it's Ubisoft...
Title: Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth

Simply because the developer made an awesome job on this one and deserves to be rewarded for it.

I even bought it a second time now regularly for my normal Steam account cuz it's freaking awesome and adorable game!

@Miwiw: there is a uncut patch in the Steam forums. Just look for it and preload it too. Basically it just replaces the cut files with the uncut ones and it works like a charm. That is for the Australian version which - afaik - has the same cuts as the German one. cute puppy and abortion galore with a 60MB sized rar-file :)
Has been confirmed to work by other Aussies.

Found the forum thread with the link to the uncut patch. Enjoy (when it's released)! (http://steamcommunity.com/app/213670/discussions/0/558749824588892365/)

Great game, 100% recommendable to all SP fans. Don't play the game on standard difficulty though, it'll be a relative walkover.

The whole fuss about the censorship is blown a bit out of proportions though, I mean who cares about consoles, they're mostly used by children so obviously children rules apply, majority rules
Fact is that all PC versions in Europe except for the German version is _NOT_ censored.

Quote from: Reddit
“Only the North/South American one is completely uncensored on every platform,” the source wrote. “The Australian one is censored on all platforms, the European and Russian ones are censored on console only, and the German one is censored on console for anal probing etc, and censored on both console and PC for cute puppies, Heil einstein arm salutes, etc. To avoid a ‘Hot Coffee’ type situation, the 20-second-or-so gameplay/cutscene is removed completely from the disc and replaced with the screen you see at the link (times six more 20-second scenes).

The question is why that seeing someone getting "probed", in a hugely comical way, drawn as a cartoon, by alien creatures, is somehow a lot worse than the liters of blood, guts, brain goo, face to face execution style moves and what not these console kids are virtually bathing in daily, not that this is a problem though in my opinion :P but in context it seems outrageous. Medieval thinking.

Without asking for any spoilers, is it worth to play it again after let's say ~ 2months? I actually don't know much about the game (as I still wait for it on steam) and I didn't want to read anything yet.
Title: Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
Post by: Molly on March 10, 2014, 12:26:48 pm
Well, I played through it as Thief on Normal difficulty once. Already started another playthrough with the Jew class, on hard this time...

The thing is, the combat is actually really fun and just for that there is a replay value for the other 3 classes after the first time.

And there are the weapon add ons which provide another incentive to play again. They give you the possibility to specialize on certain damage types, like bleeding, gross out, fire, shock and cold.

And since there is a "downloadable content"-option in the main menu - considering the huge Southpark Universe - there is probably going to be some story add on.

What do you mean by 'play it again'? I do know that there is DLC coming so I'm keeping it on my PC for a bit.

The combat is fun, but shallow. It's very streamlined though, it's like you're watching a South Park episode. I mostly played it for the gags, jokes and story.
As a thief, 3/4th in the combat was a walk in the park on hardcore.

I can't remember seeing any drugs. Only empty syringes and coffee as fresh as the morning sun.
There's a bong and crack in Mrs. Cartman's room if I remember correctly

Much like Left 4 Dead 2, Australian PC gamers have quickly and effortlessly found a way around the Classification Board’s restrictions on South Park: The Stick of Truth.

A user-made patch, available to download here (http://steamcommunity.com/app/213670/discussions/0/558749824588892365/?tscn=1394428498), removes all of the censorship and allows players to experience the full… er, majesty, of uncensored anal probing scenes and other things that were deemed not to fit within an R18+ classification.

I haven’t tried it personally, but if the 50+ comments are anything to go by, it apparently works perfectly and is being very well received.

So I just finished the game after 9 hours and a few minutes of playtime (either 3 or 4 sittings xD), and that plot...just wow. I love southpark, and my only regret is that this game isn't longer!

Cooties slowpoke! :P

I rented it for the PS3 and it bugged out where Cartman is teaching you how to fight. It got stuck on the shield and (poleaxe? cant remember what he was holding) guys and couldn't go any further. It sucked ass. So I guess if I do end up getting it, it will be for PC. That just wasn't far enough to decide if it is worth the current price.  :?
