Title: Should this nerd stay or should he go?
Post by: Jona on February 09, 2014, 12:49:49 am
Kinda at a crossroads here... not sure if this mod is really worth my time anymore. Apparently I got perma-banned for having an opinion and using a minor glitch, with the option to come back should  I reveal how to do said glitch. Anyways, your input would be helpful.

Such decisions should never be influenced by others. My suggestion is this: take a few days off, do something else, then think about it and decide. If you can't decide, flip a coin.

Actually he got banned because he didn't want to disclose the bug.

Get out bundle of sticks, and take your dumb axe with you!

^

why would you put such an option up there? even though i do want you to stay...you know i gotta choose that

minor glitch?

Well its effects are arguably not so minor, but the fact that I was doing it alone, or with only 2, or at most I think it was 3 other guys, in DTV, at 4-5am... well, no one really cared. And for the record it was not I who used the duplication spell, that one eludes me still.

Get out bundle of sticks, and take your dumb axe with you!

Lol put that in there just for you and a couple other siege regulars. :P

Yeah, taking a couple days off was the plan (I got no time to play this weekend anyways... got work to do, this just helps me stay focused as far as I am concerned.) Thanks for the advice though.

cRPG admins can be a lot like the pantheon of Greek gods. Petty, temperamental, and totally willing to condemn you for minor trespasses.

They're pretty much untouchable so you just have to go along with their wack-ass shit and hope that they don't feel like smiting you on a whim.

Sacrificing some goats wouldn't hurt either.

Many do quit a game after they get banned because they're mad. Don't be like them.

This nerd should shut up, take his ban as a man and not create such a stupid threads anymore.

Like, if people vote you to stay, you be like "Oh well people want me to play guess I will continue playing then", and if they vote you to go, you be like "Oh well, people don't want me to play, guess I will not do it anymore", wtf?

Actually he got banned because he didn't want to disclose the bug.

As long as he doesn't use it or tells others (apart from admins) about it, I really doubt this ban makes any sense. If he doesn't use the knowledge, why care about it?

His attitude might be bad but many others are pissing in the wind and nobody really cares.  :P

Not that I would care about the OP tho.

If you want to quit, fine, but at least do it after you've explained how to reproduce the exploit so we can fix it for all the other people who play.

You don't get the right to make such demands. When you decide to grow up, or actually contribute to this mod, you can be told the secret.

Edit: It's understandable that admins want to keep the game clear, but this is not how you go about getting bugs fixed.

In all seriousness, don't leave cRPG. One of the few remaining siege heroes. The reason you got banned was buttfuck retarded as well.

This drama seems pretty overblown from something that started out as such a small thing. It'd be nice if you could just PM Fips about the exploit and call it a day so you can talk about the ban through PM/IRC once everything calms down.

Seriously though, stay banned if you cheat and won't tell the devs how to fix it.

What I gathered from this thread

Although yes he should have just told what the bug was. But was banning/probably a permaban really necessary? Thats like Stalin sending a person to a gulag because he punched a pigeon in the face. Outrageous.

Yeah, because it's totally okay to find a bug, abuse it, refuse explaining it to the devs and instead try to blackmail them with the information.

As far as I've understood, the ban stays in place until he explains the bug. He could have been playing again 5 minutes after the ban, but instead he made this tread.

blackmail? abuse?

maybe you should read the other post where jona explains how he did the bug exploit when the server was very underpopulated

and lol blackmailing is what you guys are doing!

" give us the info on how to do the bug exploit or else you will stay banned"

Better not leave jona. So few people left now.

But take a few days off. Seems like it'd do some good. There are other games.

I guess I'm one of the few who also sees it this way..

It doesn't matter when you're doing the glitch, or how many people were on at the time and whether or not anyone cared.  You did this knowingly, then in a rather shitty manner, attempted to use it as leverage against the people who make / moderate this mod, (and who do it for free) in an effort to get what you wanted.  How do you not see the error in your ways?

I don't think you should be permanently banned, but I'm pretty sure as soon as you just tell them how to do the glitch so they can improve the game, you'll be able to play again.

Trying to use bullshit, to bullshit your way into getting what you want, then trying to bullshit your way out of it, is for the lack of a better word, bullshit.

Don't quit, just own up to your mistakes, and apologize, then play more siege.  :)

Don't quit the game over something like this, if you really still like the game then just do what you need to do to end the permaban and start killing scrubs in siege again.

blackmail (ˈblækˌmeɪl)
n
1. (Law) the act of attempting to obtain money by intimidation, as by threats to disclose discreditable information
2. the exertion of pressure or threats, esp unfairly, in an attempt to influence someone's actions

It's hardly blackmail, considering he's being punished for exploiting and has been given a chance to redeem himself.

So the ban stays perma if we fix the bug before he talks? Finally some kind of reward system for devs.

Speaking on Jona's behalf here:

Jona has long since turned in requested info on the bug issue via PM to related parties.  His "ransom demand" in response to Fips requesting info on the bug was a jab at Fips and his DTV changes and were not meant to be taken too seriously.  Said changes bear much controversy with "Old School" DTV players like Jona and I.  Regardless, it was not to be interpreted as him ransoming info.  Believing that he was is ill founded logic as Jona is one of at least a dozen who know about the bug.  His discussing of the issue with related parties was delayed by work and him being banned from the forums soon after making the post (demand info and then block means of communicating???).

Whether you are gonna go full attention emo mode and leave now or not, at least explain the exploit so the rest of the community is left with a better game.

Please just explain this to me. How exactly do you imagine that the devs could allow players who found some way to teleport to continue playing? How the hell is it unfair that you got banned?

This game isn't worth so much, since it's dying at every patch. Just find other games to play with your clanmates, because there are fuck loads of more enjoyable games than cRPG. Furthermore, it will make you able to fix real life stuff. Just follow your dreams without worrying about an unknown mod of an unknown game.

Explain  to the devs what is the glitch/bug you found , then do what ya want, don't ask others if you should keep playing crpg or not, decide by yourself.

Whiny emo cunt. Ablooobloobloo, got banned even though I was just joking around, waaaah. If that was true you'd have gotten into contact with devs about the exploit in that same thread. I guess it's just more important to score some sort of moronic rhetorical point by refusing to, then pretend you are a victim. Good job, rebel without a cause. If it was up to me, even giving devs info now would leave you permabanned, simply for being so fucking retarded.

Well, Jona failed to represent himself properly. He was clearly angry about the state of dtv, and took out his frustration in the way of not telling the developers how it worked.  That in and of itself is a bad thing.  However, as far as Jonas character in game is concerned, its a different story.  I've played many hours with Jona (possibly thousands), and i've never seen him exploit or treat others badly.  He has always been a kind considerate team-mate to me.  I propose he stays provided he apologizes and reveals the bug.  In his defense the new DTV is far more exploitable than it ever has been, but that is beside the point.

CRPG is a very small comunity and we really need players! Please accept his apology!

Better be fucking joking with this one, first they come for the banner, and now they're going to get rid of all the siege regulars. Give it a year and we'll have 9 people on battle, 2 on DTV, and siege will have been taken down in favor of hosting a feminist empowerment website.
