No offense but i really dont get that photography thing,

(click to show/hide)

how is this photograph can be considered as art? It's just a butt of someone whose riding a bike.
---
But i changed my mind while writing this so nevermind. Now i believe art is a form of expressing himself. So even it's a human riding a bike to me,  if it can mean anything to anybody or if it can touch your feelings or if it can make you remember and miss your friends and childhood then it's worth making it. I didnt used to understad rich people buying some red dye on canvas for like 40.000$ but now i do. Thank you my friend you enlightened me. You're doing a great job :)

I understand where you are coming from. Photography for me is just a hobby and a way to either express a feeling or used to document periods of my life. That picture is actually one of my oldest and not a great picture as you said it holds a certain sentimental value.

I used to be pretty into photography, preferring macro shots, but now, somehow, a black and white photo of weeds growing around a chain link fence seems less profound than it did when I was a younger human. These days my preferred outlet is painting with acrylic, watercolor, and india ink and mixing the three up a bit. I've never considered myself a very good or accomplished painter (favoring abstract due to a lack of technical ability in regards to form/perspective/executive planning); I just like to mix colors, and it is a pastime which brings me joy. Being a responsible adult, I recently decided to make a bulk purchase of 70 six inch by six inch canvas panels, which I figure might last me three months if I'm not being too zealous.

God, I miss this SLR. It was an early digital SLR model with terribly small MP, and eventually the CF card slot (only media slot) died and I couldn't really use it anymore. Still, all the cheapo digital cameras and cellphone cams I have had since will never compare...

When I had that camera, I was really into double exposures, intentional light leaks, and crossdeveloping (film in developed in 35mm slide juice in particular). Tried to mimic the over-saturated reds of degraded film from the 60s/70s because I loved the color palette. Since it was a digital camera, this was all done in post. YEARS BEFORE LOMOGRAPHY WAS COOL, OKAY?

(click to show/hide)

More recently (but still years old), nature stuff from a camping trip into a really remote part of the Adirondack State Park. It's the largest state park in the US, and I think it's on par with national parks like Yosemite or Grand Canyon. Crappy consumer-grade digital camera that had an okay macro setting.

(click to show/hide)

And doodles. Pilot Precise V7 black/red pens and black sharpie for fills. Chalk one is dollar store sidewalk chalk :D

(click to show/hide)

I've also done crpg-related doodles here  (http://forum.melee.org/general-discussion/crazy-loooshus-crpg-loom-giveaway-and-essay-contest-%2817-loom-points%29/msg502636/#msg502636)and here (http://forum.melee.org/general-discussion/a-warrior%27s-path-crpg-cyoa/). I need to scan some of my more recent stuff. All of this (besides CRPG things) are like 5 years old and now I feel like a grandpa. :(

Title: Re: Share your artistic talents with the community! (All mediums)

I was (and am) interested and inspired by mythology from around the world. A well translated anthology of "the myths and fables of [area or culture]" is great casual reading if you're into that kind of thing. Artwork depicting divinities and holy places are way cool in my book too.

That one doodle in particular is mesoamerican-ish. The stuff near the bottom is a series of bad places for bad people to go when they die. Middle and South American stuff is my personal favorite. I mime a lot of stuff from Aztec/Mayan stonework and Incan textiles when I doodle.

I've been playing as a (session) keyboardist/guitarist in a bunch of bands for years (varying from jazz to doom to alternative rock), but I've recently started working on an ambient/noise solo project as well. It's still in its very early stages (so please forgive me for the tiny amount of material), and it's probably not to everyone's taste, but I thought I'd share it with you anyway:

Holy fuck, this is great stuff! Liked and following you!

You really remind me of Collin Stetson, a phenomenal saxophonist.
Here's his deal- He's mic'd his saxophone inside and out.
He's mic'd his breathing, the air flowing through the instrument, the clanking of the key presses... everything.
It's unbelievable. There's four of these "Take Away Shows" on Youtube, and I highly recommend you give them a listen.
Here's one. This one is less jazzy and far more experimental (what I was reminded of with your stuff):

Nice stuff Bob_Ross. I like ambient/drone/experimental/noise stuff a lot, and most people I share it with either get bored or get a headache and don't want to listen to it.

Collin Stetson

Haha, I keep almost posting a song of his in the "what are you listening to" thread but always stop before I post and think to myself "it's too weird, no one will like it."

Gonna go post it now!

Not sure if you've noticed, but nearly everything I share in there is something I'm pretty sure no one will give a fuck about.
I just like to share anyway. Shit, you would've had my vote for Stetson a LONG time ago had you posted it. haha

I like the look you are beginning to achieve. Keep working at it and try to at least get more implied detail with that kind of washed look. I think it could really be something special.

Ty man, I ussually start with a sketch and then build up the lyers, eventually removingthe base sketch. I am working feverishly to achieve detail without having to draw black lines. Not having thick outlines really makes it look more vibrant and realistic, imo. Thanks alot, appreciated man!

Anytime  Yeah, black outlines make it look like you are making a coloring book in a drawing  :P One thing that I've found, especially if the subject you are currently coloring is white or a light color, use the background color or whatever is behind it to make the outline, rather than doing a white face with black outlines. Also, let the values of the colors make features (which you've done nicely on the grass and rock), rather than making lines. I like doing that for noses because they come out more natural looking than an upside down question mark with 2 small circles for nostrils.

Mostly covers, some originals, but they are all bad. I am not an amazing musician or even consider myself decent but I enjoy singing and playing music, so I figured I would share. Lots of good memories and laughs while recording and playing these songs, enjoy.

I feel exactly the same on all of the points you stated. This is my first sketch that I tried to add colors to, and I must say that it is hard as fuck! But it is nice to see progress in what I do, keeps me motivated. And, tbh, I rushed the characters, as I wanted to get it over with.. ADD isn't a virtue when you are making art, I often lose patience and start to rush things, that's my main flaw atm. (Im such a neurotic person that I HAVE to have the painting finished..)

I find facial features to be EXTREMELY hard, even when sketching I often find myself fucking up proportions, placing and expressions. But practice makes perfect, afterall!

What program do you use? Do you use a mouse or a tablet? There's lots of freeware and really cheap programs out there specialized for sketching/drawing/painting/etc that are more intuitive and specialized than something like Photoshop. A decent tablet is a hefty investment but I can't stand using a mouse. Works well enough but after 15 minutes my wrist and shoulder are killing me.

For facial features, buy an anatomy artbook. Even if you aren't drawing in a realistic style, anatomy and figure drawing stuff will help a ton. Check your local library and get started for free :D

I use a Wacom tablet, the large one, with photoshop. I really like photoshop because it has such a rediculous amount of tools, plus i'm kind of getting used to it..  :D yeah the tablet cost me around.. 900 euro's, but it was Well worth the money! I still enjoy it!

Mouse, for me, is impossible to do corners, straight lines are OK but corners (or sloping curves) are horrible!  I would suggest anyone who enjoys drawing on the pc to get a tablet, it is not a tool that will need a new version every year because it's outdated, sure there are better ones out here but it isn't necessary!

GOLDEN RULE:
DRAW. A LOT. PRACTICE IS EVERYTHING

other rules:
make drawing to a habit

imitate artists you like

scout for art, f.e. here:
http://www.deviantart.com
http://www.polycount.com/2014/02/21/polycount-recap-24/ (yeh I know, mostly 3d, but also often some great concept art)
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/
it also helps if you create a tumblr account and watch some artists

scout for tutorials and work through them (and learn some anatomy)
for example background stuff
(click to show/hide)
or character/emotion stuff
(click to show/hide)

ah yes, and get some wacom tablet (or other company), it´ll be way easier with it

thats all

I just remembered some weird videos I uploaded to youtube years ago. I don't remember the sources of any of the video but I can recall the artists for the music (but not the specific songs). I can't remember the login info for the account anymore...

Something by The Caretaker, edited to sound like a skipping record + bleak WHOOOM noises

Something by _R from the album Diseases

Something by Squarepusher (no really it is, even if it doesn't sound like it)

No they don't have any deep meaning. I was just like "hey lets make video to a music and maybe it's spooky I dunno."

I started calisthenics in august, you could call it an art form as it's a combination of gymnastics and strength training.

Just fell on the corner of my bed yesterday while attempting pushing up in a handstand from paralletes, it went so well I ended up in a full handstand 0,5 seconds later and now going to the radiology departement to check if my back is ok:p

I found a drawing on Deviantart of Nihlus and Saren from Mass Effect and i think it's amazing. But it was made black and white. So I colored it. Coloring a black and white image doesn't require any artistic talent, but it's something I enjoy doing at times.

The Drawing made by Efleck on deviantart:

My first character render. Never have done anything with people much beyond line drawings and those are mostly primitive at best. Plenty of things need work but nearly every aspect of it was experimental in some way and I still have to gain more than a casual proficiency of basics of lighting like ambient occlusion, sub-surface scattering, bouncing light, and highlights/reflections. The 2nd piece I am working on now in this set will give me more practice at that with much more defined lighting in an enclosed area so that all of the above will come into play. Not to mention it is an action shot and so will be more interesting than this one. The 3rd piece that I've only done the composition for takes place outdoors and is also an action piece. It will have some visible lighting elements too, but mainly it will allow me to work on my linear, atmospheric and planar perspective. It takes place at night and so it will be a bit difficult to work on color perspective but I have some lighting ideas that should let me do that too. I work slowly plus I have a full time job and am in college as well, but I'll get the more interesting ones posted eventually and hopefully the progression will be evident  :P

I made a couple of decent pics I thought were worth posting. First one I was inspired to do after watching InterStellar. The 2nd one was inspired by bi-polar obsessive compulsive tendencies coupled with a lunatic fringe.

http://huckleseed.deviantart.com/art/Orbital-Research-The-Star-that-Never-Was-495947447 (http://huckleseed.deviantart.com/art/Orbital-Research-The-Star-that-Never-Was-495947447)

If you didn't follow the link to the page description, the swirls that you see surrounding what appears to be a Jupiter-like planet is dust and gas that was ejected along with this proto-star from the nebula you see off to the upper right. This ball of gas will likely never accumulate enough material to ignite since it was ejected due to the birth of another nearby proto-star that did achieve its destiny. It is doomed to cool and drift its way through the dark spaces of our universe.

Yes, the color scheme is very much on purpose. The structures and "objects" are not meant to be a direct representation of any real world subject, but it is intended that you will find many of them based upon interpretations of your own mind and troubles. No two people are intended to see this piece in the same way, nor to agree on the meaning of the imagery or on any underlying theme. Though someone did catch one of the ideas that was a part of what I was thinking about when I created it and I was quite happy that they did.

makes me wish i actually had talents...

how difficult is 3d modelling and animation?
always thought it was a cool thing but never attempted,
also my drawing skill is little more than stick figures

the difficulty is moderate, it depends way more on how much motivation you bring to it, since it´s not a thing you learn in some months. Get yourself Blender (since it´s free) and try it out. You can also play around a bit with Sculptris (the free, very light preversion of ZBrush) to get a bit of a feel for Mudbox-Modeling. I personally work a lot with Autodesk Maya and ZBrush, but in the end its up to you what program you use

Don´t get frustrated by the programs at first, you´ll have to carry yourself through some tutorials at the beginning but it gets better

Reeaally nice Weren. Id give some love to the left and right pointed corners on the arrow that points down on the wearers forehead.  Other than that, awesome!

Thanks.  :)

What do you mean, though? Make the arrow wider or?
