Never played the first one either, I think I pre-ordered this in Feburary, not realising it wasn't released yet, kinda pissed me off but I've got something to look forward too now I guess? o_o

The first one is awesome but its really buggy and it crashed a lot, if they solve the technical stuff the game should be great

Yeah, the crash problem is pretty annoying. Even with the 1.5 Patch I have random crashes after 2-3 hours of playing. But with this patch there aren't any annoying bugs in my opinion.

Have you restarted Steam?

Where are you located? I'm in Germany and I could download it if the servers weren't too busy.  :P

Library>The Witcher 2>Install
Space required, 16gb.
Servers are too busy to handle your request.

This may take a while

Nah, it will be Skyrim for sure... Just the amount of sales will be like ten times higher...

You can change your download region to somewhere else. Like Ukraina, Korea and so on don't have alot of pressure, thus you can download there.

But if you take a location too far away from you, i.e Korea if you're European/US then the download speed will be quite low.
You want a location quite close but that does not have many users.

Skyrim nor Witcher 2 does not deserve the title. None of them are really good when it comes to the RPG part.

Uh.. How can you say that now, over half a year from Skyrim release?

That is easy, it is Elder Scrolls V and all vanilla versions of Elder Scrolls were crap (well Morrowind was not that bad, but still no rpg masterpiece).

Arrived a bit late but ;

Said it well.

Not to mention that from what we've heard from Bethesda so far does Skyrim seem even worse when it comes to "RPG" terms.

I'm not saying the games are bad. I enjoyed both The Witcher and Oblivion(In this case, since Skyrim isn't out yet) They are both quite good series.
But in terms of RPG aren't they so great.

By the way, if anybody is still having problems downloading in Europe via Steam, change your download region to Toronto.

Morrowind not a masterpiece, you cant be serious. You didnt play it for long enough i think  :D

Twas briliant, absolutely stunning. The atmosphere, the story, you could be whatever you wanted, in any faction you wanted, no quest markers, the rewarding feeling of exploration, the music and the great skill based leveling system that rewards every little thing you do not just combat, the great expansions, great community with plenty of mods. It repetaility is unmatched, you could literaly replay it 10+ times every time doing something different and finding new stuff.

Judging a book by its cover here eyh.. Taking account what they have announced this far, it will be far better than Oblivion, maybe on par with Morrowind. We will find out who is right and who is wrong  :D

This has nothing to do with the vanilla version.
The story was great, but then it has the problem like ever other sandbox rpg from Bethesda, time means nothing. It is always like "Damn we have a crisis here, but no need to rush. Take your time, we will wait until you are ready."

Game itsself is fun so far, pretty hard too... died quite a couple of times during the first 1 1/2 hours already. But I like it, a challenge, as opposed to most current games.  :D

The Witcher 2 is crazy, it caused me to buy a new graphics card!!!
I clicked on the "use optimal settings" button and the game set everything on "high"... what was definitely a fail, the game was lagging as hell. Then I set the graphics on "medium" and still it was really unplayable, only on "low" it ran fine, but looked f***** ugly. In games like Crysis 2 (but not Crysis 1) or Assassins Creed 2 everything was perfect on highest settings and now this...
So I ordered a new graphics card today, cause my Nvidia Geforce 9600GT is too bad... I chose an Sapphire ATI Radeon HD6870 and hope that it will fix my problems  :D.
(click to show/hide)

With the new card, my system will be like this:

Win 7 Ultimate 32 Bit
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD6870
4 GB RAM DDR2

Hope it will be enough to play the game at least on "high" settings.

Don't worry, you will be able to use ultra settings with 100+ FPS, ATi ROCKS!

It detected my settings as low.... I changed them to high thinking wtf.. Runs fine... Erm... Not too gripped by the story, but I haven't played the first game... Atm in a courtyard having to take on 2 heavy knights, 1 with a shield and 3 light ones and I keep dying... Getting pissed off!

Oh and there's a naked lady in the first part.

That's kinda the point of open world/sandbox RPGs, so your gripe is actually with the genre rather than the games, because the Elder Scrolls games are all pretty awesome for the sandbox RPG genre, even with their faults ( barring Oblivion, after a runthrough of that it needed alot of mods to be good after seeing all the broken shit lol ). Come to think of it, there isn't really any RPG's that force you to some kind of time limit, so I don't really see your point anyway, I can't think of a single good RPG that is completely linear and time has some kind of limit.

Meh, it had many flaws still.
Wasn't anyone bothered that the npcs were all walking wikipedias/vending machines, you could kill all the nobles in plain daylight and noone would ever say something, etc.. For me it was just all to generic.

You can do that in the first one too.. I saw when a monster killed almost half of the village and the guards didn't react (but they were very far), I found that epic funny XD. But I think it's good because I got attacked only when there were guards near or something. So when nobody sees you it didn't happen like in crpg with the abuses.

Fallout 1.

My point is, in a linear RPG you are forced to do the mainquest  at a particular time while in sandbox games you do not even have to do most quests of the main story (in the case of Oblivion the better choice).

I like the first one for the excellent RPG elements (in a videogame), but the combat system and the interface, well, the overall gameplay was really crappy so I don't play anymore. Maybe I'll continue it when I'm bored with other games.

Looks like they improved the combat system and turned the crappy interface into something even crappier made for consoles. The depth of the backround and story still seem very good so i'd say it's a good game.

Question, I didn't play The Witcher 1 (and no I don't have time to play it now :)) and I heard story is somewhat related to The Witcher 2.

Can anyone summarize the important stuff from Witcher 1 that'd be good to know when playing Witcher 2?
I'd hate to go through TW2 story not understanding half of the stuff.

I'm only in the second Act yet, but you are the famous White Wolf, a Witcher (forgot his name), which disappeared some years ago and has now shown up again with a complete memory loss.
Your witcher fortress gets attacked and you seek revenge on the attackers.
Witchers are "modified" humans with super powers to hunt monsters for money, they are sterile though. (You can bang nearly every woman you encounter, even non humans like dryads)
There are some other factions like the order of the flame, who are humans with a similar task as the witcher but primary to protect all humans.
The squirrels which consists of non humans (dwarfs and elves) who fight for their rights in human society.

As i said it's not much due i have not progressed far in the game.
