The Witcher 2 is crazy, it caused me to buy a new graphics card!!!
I clicked on the "use optimal settings" button and the game set everything on "high"... what was definitely a fail, the game was lagging as hell. Then I set the graphics on "medium" and still it was really unplayable, only on "low" it ran fine, but looked f***** ugly. In games like Crysis 2 (but not Crysis 1) or Assassins Creed 2 everything was perfect on highest settings and now this...
So I ordered a new graphics card today, cause my Nvidia Geforce 9600GT is too bad... I chose an Sapphire ATI Radeon HD6870 and hope that it will fix my problems  :D.

With the new card, my system will be like this:

Win 7 Ultimate 32 Bit
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66GHz
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD6870
4 GB RAM DDR2

Hope it will be enough to play the game at least on "high" settings.

hey I have that card, I got it for $220 :(

Meh, it had many flaws still.
Wasn't anyone bothered that the npcs were all walking wikipedias/vending machines, you could kill all the nobles in plain daylight and noone would ever say something, etc.. For me it was just all to generic.

You can do that in the first one too.. I saw when a monster killed almost half of the village and the guards didn't react (but they were very far), I found that epic funny XD. But I think it's good because I got attacked only when there were guards near or something. So when nobody sees you it didn't happen like in crpg with the abuses.
I was the first one who started -1-ing everyone, now everyone does it to everyone.

That's kinda the point of open world/sandbox RPGs, so your gripe is actually with the genre rather than the games, because the Elder Scrolls games are all pretty awesome for the sandbox RPG genre, even with their faults ( barring Oblivion, after a runthrough of that it needed alot of mods to be good after seeing all the broken shit lol ). Come to think of it, there isn't really any RPG's that force you to some kind of time limit, so I don't really see your point anyway, I can't think of a single good RPG that is completely linear and time has some kind of limit.

Fallout 1.

My point is, in a linear RPG you are forced to do the mainquest  at a particular time while in sandbox games you do not even have to do most quests of the main story (in the case of Oblivion the better choice).

Completed Witcher 2 in 28 hours on normal... Quite short. Not as short as Mass effect 2 at 18 hours though.

I like the first one for the excellent RPG elements (in a videogame), but the combat system and the interface, well, the overall gameplay was really crappy so I don't play anymore. Maybe I'll continue it when I'm bored with other games.

Looks like they improved the combat system and turned the crappy interface into something even crappier made for consoles. The depth of the backround and story still seem very good so i'd say it's a good game.

Question, I didn't play The Witcher 1 (and no I don't have time to play it now :)) and I heard story is somewhat related to The Witcher 2.

Can anyone summarize the important stuff from Witcher 1 that'd be good to know when playing Witcher 2?
I'd hate to go through TW2 story not understanding half of the stuff.

I'm only in the second Act yet, but you are the famous White Wolf, a Witcher (forgot his name), which disappeared some years ago and has now shown up again with a complete memory loss.
Your witcher fortress gets attacked and you seek revenge on the attackers.
Witchers are "modified" humans with super powers to hunt monsters for money, they are sterile though. (You can bang nearly every woman you encounter, even non humans like dryads)
There are some other factions like the order of the flame, who are humans with a similar task as the witcher but primary to protect all humans.
The squirrels which consists of non humans (dwarfs and elves) who fight for their rights in human society.

As i said it's not much due i have not progressed far in the game.
Sacrum Romanum Imperium

Yeah, well you know, that's just like, your opinion, man.
