Once upon a time, long, long ago in a land far, far from the funless sodomites, lived a happy people.
They buggered each other frequently and it was joyous.
They had ladders, and forward spawns and weapons racks for as far as the eye could see and much fun was had by all.
People would merrily climb up onto buildings and frolic gaily.
Then came the unfunnening. the MkFaac(Must kill fun at all costs) clan ruined all, with it's banishment of ladders and it's flagrant anti siege player racism.

So here's what I say.
Bring ladders back to battle.
Lift the "ban" on siege gear.
If at all possible shift siege equipment out of throwing and into the gunpowder wpf category and give everyone 200 wpf for pewpew so everyone can enjoy the splendorous wonderment of cock blocking people with ladders, shitting on cav with spikes and the ever lasting happiness that comes from the gaiety of building a catapult and pewpewing the enemy.

Truth be told, siege equipment takes a bland boring crap map and makes it dynamic and fun.
I really do believe that taking the easy way out and just removing stuff was a serious error of judgment and it's been long enough. Push this shit the other way and make every round different and hilarious.

I feel like it would just resort in a bunch of archers on a roof no one can get to and then melee will Q_Q because they were too lazy to grab a ladder. IMHO

With that in place having siege gear won't be a burden at all. A good chunk of shielders will haul a ladder and some spikes around with them to deal with the trouble makers.
Also, I'd advise making ladders unbreakable on the battle server to stop people cutting themselves off on ladders.

Just make small ladders take 3 slots and rest 4 slots, no more archercampfests, instead teams would need to call for their special ladder guy for the dirty work.

if ladders were unkillable (or had massively increased hp) i'd say fair enough, but archers laddering to a house then destroying the way up is beyond irritating; it completely changes the dynamic of the game

Ladders are good as long as ranged don't abuse them. Sadly ranged will always abuse an elevated position as they should, so its best with them disabled

Ladders should be breakable, and every map should have a chest at spawn that supplies ladders.

I agree. I never had a problem with ladders and archers. Shoot them down or get a ladder. Some
whiners people just don't want to take the trouble.

Ugh, ladders were awful. In siege people made these Dr. Seus looking pathways over the walls and onto the flag. Though maybe if they made it that you couldn't go up ladders carrying a ladder...

Don't put ladders back in siege.
The maps are shit and can't handle it.
To bring them back to siege requires a reword of the siege system and better maps with better defences. Also spawn times would have to be cut WAY down.

As a try-hard cavalry lancer who pretty much plays exclusively on the battle server...I say allow ladders and all siege equipment back to battle game mode (and Duel). And siege equip to siege servers.
Don't allow ladders on siege though, it fucks up the maps.

As some people suggested, if you really want ladders in battle then the other is to remove all the bad maps that break if ladders are allowed. This means removing all buildings and all trees from all maps. I'm ok with that too. Ladders and buildings together though is a horribly flawed idea.

The issue was that people broke the ladders. The most fun battles I had when playing with the Hospitallers were when we had to counter range and it turned into this crazy roof war with small teams of infantry charging around trying to knock out the archer positions.
As I said before, to resolve this upkeep needs to go to the shit on ladders, their HP needs ot jump and if at all possible do that whole "chest that drops ladders" thing.

The issue was that people broke the ladders.
Not at all. The issue is that people used ladders to get to extremely defendable places. If you really want ladders, add unusable and destroyable ladders up in the sky. A roof stocked with enemy ranged which only access points are ladders is a death trap no matter your class. Suppose you have a shield and manage to get to the actual roof, you die the instant you start actually fighting. Making roofs accessible is introducing siege logic in battle mode. Yet siege works because attackers respawn fast and their goal is not to kill defenders but to take the flag. Intelligent melee in battle mode never use ladders to get to the enemy roof because it only serves one purpose, killing themselves. The only appropriate response is to hide and wait.

This could work if throwing a ladder towards a roof of archers actually killed them. It doesn't.
It is however very efficient at killing anything that goes up this ladder under a shower of projectiles, of course. Ladders basically remove cav from the game, one of the few ranged pseudocounters. And additionally make the job of the other pseudocounters even harder, due to the extreme vulnerability of people that climb ladders. On top of that, they make killing those basically invulnerable roofcamping ranged enemies an even more urgent task because roofs provide excellent fire zones. Back then it was frequently impossible to find shelter against projectiles.
