I have no idea. I gave these guys 20 bucks 5 years ago and they keep spamming my mailbox with a new game each time.

It just reached Early Access on Steam and it looks quite promising.

Space Sandbox where you can build space stations, ships, mine asteroids and some military things. I am struggling with myself if I should get it or not.

Kafein, go check if you have that Early Access and tell me if it's fun. The trailer on Steam do look fun tbh... tempting...

Arrrgh!

I was so hoping you'd tell me now how awesome fun it is already :(
Like Minecraft with shiny graphics, in space, with multiplayer and physics and cool crashes and space awesomeness... I am so tempted. If only Batman wouldn't be released tomorrow! D:

I am going for the [B]at!

You can buy it off the website for $14.99 right now.

You get a steam key, cheaper than buying straight through steam :p (£14.99 for me).
http://www.spaceengineersgame.com/buy.html

Going to give it a shot, as PC doesn't get batman till the 8th of Nov :(

Just been watching a lot of videos of stuff people have made/are making.

There's some really sick stuff going on!

Some guy even tried making a grappling hook launcher with a winch mechanic attached to his ship:

Bump, I recently got this game and it's amazing. So much more than it looks like at first glimpse.

The latest update brings super huge worlds and exploration (basically infinite procedurally generated asteroids and NPCs).

Features
- super-large worlds – increased the size of the world to 1,000,000,000 km in diameter (equals to 6.6 AU)
- procedural asteroids  - adds an infinite number of asteroids to the game world (dedicated servers settings: value for asteroid field density should be between 0 and 1)
- exploration - adds an infinite number of ships and stations to the game world; discover, explore, acquire and conquer!

Probably is, but in the end I think this game is way more CPU intensive than GPU.

Featuring solid armor-covered body, triple layer of armor covering cockpit's "windshield", 4 x MGs and 1st person controls from a front-mounted camera.
Only used it to test-fight "NPC" ships, and i must say that it can take a lot of direct MG fire before dissolving :) ( compared to the first military ship i made ) Unfortunately, camera is one the first things to break, so i am planing some clever rotating shield, that might conceal it when needed...

bought it today  :P
found the ship inside the asteroid and began disassemble a big thruster , took the parts to my ship, and when i returned found that the ship exploded. Question to nerds experts,
why it exploded? detonated half disassembled thruster? or self-destructed  because it has been abondonet for too long? (It was a starting ship)

and advise the live server, I started on the "migration Gypsies" or something like that

I hope they will focus on fixing the lag in MP. Stopped playing because of it. With a ping under 15 - everything is shifting in random directions. Absolutely impossible to play on 99% of the servers. And I am mostly very tolerant to a moderate lag in other games.
The only server I was able to play on, had all sorts of restrictions and mods to deal with the lag, but even that server ran like shit to a point when i just couldn't take it anymore.

And while SP is fun while learning the basics - it is little more than an empty sandbox mode...

So until they either figure out how to improve on lagging, or add more SP content, i will keep to Kerbal Space Program. ( although they are very different, they still managed to "scratch the same itch" for me, in terms of constructing stuff )

I have played Space Engineers for around 140 hours btw, so i'm not saying it's bad :) It's really good.
Title: Re: Space Engineers
Post by: Vibe on February 20, 2015, 08:20:35 am
Yeah they definitely need to fix the Multiplayer up. I only played MP with my brother and we didn't have much lag, but some things just don't work in multiplayer, like landing gear and rotors (fixed landing gear with a mod), resulting in stuff randomly exploding.

A nice trailer, planets are an interesting edition, but two issues i had with this game were lack of SP content ( and I am not talking about story or missions, there was literally nothing to do besides building ships and shooting same rudimentary bots ) and an insane MP fps lag - objects were shifting and teleporting around... Once I was able to build some rather "complicated" ships - i lost all interest, since i couldn't use blueprints online + the server lag was absolutely outrageous, and the SP part didn't offer anything besides resource gathering :(

But to someone who never played it, I would still recommend getting it! As i wrote earlier in this thread, I have played 100+ hours, and it was mostly a rewarding experience while i was learning the game. Not something you can master in a single evening :)

Yeah why not. Got 3 more people willing to play, we want to do some performance tests first and then maybe we'll even hire a server so its up 24/7.

Yeah, it lags here and there. It's just how the game is, so many objects in such a huge world, I don't think it'll ever have really good performance
