compared to long espada, its shit.
it should be cheaper or slightly faster imo. 96 speed is way too slow for a 1h sword of this price.
-
Meh, I think its alright. There are just some weapons that work imo, no matter if you nerf or buff a few points here and there. That its not the blade, but the wielder. And how is the espada better? Its swingdamage is still inferior and its lighter, which means you get stunned more easly.

it compensates with 99 speed and 29 stab pierce. plus if i land it at least remotely right, i dont glance.

Its not that big a deal imo. These 1hs all perform rather similar. I just went all in on looks when picking a 1h weapon and not even looking at the stats.

I don't think spathion sucks. It's a balanced weapon. I agree that weapon deserve +1 speed buff. After all 10k item need some love.
-
Really op?
-
It's a little clunky, but that's the point. It has good damage for both swings and stabs. You can retaliate just fine, but you can't just expect to feint and spam at will. Definitely one of the better 1hs, but from my time playing with it for a few weeks, it's for a more defensive playstyle.

Spathion gets +3 thrust and +3 cut as masterwork. Compare it to mw paramerion, and you'll see that it outshines it easily, and the paramerion is more expensive.
I have no idea why there's some one-handers getting +3 thrust and +3 cut at masterwork level, while the rest of the lot gets +3 on one stat and +2 on the other.

sorry, forgot everyone who plays this has insta-masterwork everything right off the bat, my bad.

Normal Paramerion is also inferior to normal Spathion

it also has 1 reach and 1 more cut damage, but i agree. the point is that sword this slow is not really worth buying at this price cap.
heck long arming sword has one less cut, one more speed and 2 less pierce and is nearly 4k cheaper.

I think the spathion is in a fine place right now, though I wouldn't be opposed to a 1 speed buff because buffing a weapon I use is always nice :)
What really deserves a look is the Nordic Champion Sword in comparison, seeing as 1h stabs with non thrust specialized weapons are actually useful now the 1 speed 1 cut and 1k price difference doesn't seem worth losing 5 pierce unloomed and 6 at masterwork. The only reason I could see someone taking this sword over spathion is for looks, which I agree are important, but the weapons could still be better balanced. The Paramerion could also be better for it's price considering the other weapons that it's competing with.

If Spathion sucks, Knightly Arming Sword must be awful, because at +3 it has 3 less thrust damage and only gives up one speed.
Something about the 100+ length 1h swords makes them seem way slower than their rating; military cleaver seems faster than the KAS/NCS/spathion/paramerion, despite having a slower rating. My +3 Arabian Guard Sword is rated at 99 speed, but it feels clunky in duels. Meanwhile, a Grosse Messer or Side Sword (same 99 speed) seems nimble. It's probably all in my head.
I was using Draeth's +3 Liuyedao last night, and to my horror, I performed way better than I usually do. I prefer the look/playstyle of the more "substantial" swords, but something about the 85-95 length/100+ speed 1h swords just makes them more effective.

Fixed. Liuyedao is just better than most of those clunky weapons. /bias
I don't think a lot of the longer 1hs are that great and really don't know how they should be changed.
It might be in your head a little bit on the 99 speed thing, but the fluidity of use between weapon speeds is quite apparent. The shorter weapons might feel like they hit earlier or something because the opponent can be a closer distance X away from you for sideswings with shorter weapons.. (I also notice overheads being much better for weapons of a certain length). That's why the really short weapons hit very well against enemies that are only slightly to the side in front of you.
-
All the top-tier onehanders are pretty well-balanced, no need to change anything here, imo.

i would hereby like to apologise to this community for even voicing my opinion that a 1h sword with 96 speed and upkeep more than 700g per repair is total bullshit, because every bitch spamming one of those combat pick thingies will just spam the fuck out of you for half of the price. i am indeed terribly sorry, when i wanted this weapon to be viable because it looks great, but with a speed of 96 there are many better swords to be had.
and please stop talking about mw items. they can nerf the loom bonuses as much as they want, i dont care.

If any weapon needs love it is the Wakizashi people.
Wakizashi (MW)
weapon length: 70
weight: 1
difficulty: 4
speed rating: 105
weapon length: 70
thrust damage: 23 pierce
swing damage: 32 cut
slots: 0
upkeep:528
compared to:
Nordic Short War Sword (MW)
weapon length: 81
weight: 1.1
difficulty: 7
speed rating: 104
weapon length: 81
thrust damage: 26 pierce
swing damage: 33 cut
slots: 0
upkeep: 268
Nordic short war sword outshines it in almost every possible aspect for half the price. It only loses by 1 speed point (which is pretty negligible compared to the other deficiencies in the wakizashi). It is also the same with almost all the samurai armor pieces as well.
