Free For All 5-a-side Tournament

That's right: Freedom. Of choice. That's what cRPG is supposedly all about. Play the way you like with no restrictions.

When & Where ? Format of the Tourney ?

Sunday 23.06.2013 (If too many teams apply it will be both Saturday & Sunday afternoon/evening)

Time: 19.00 CET (GMT+2), putting it 1 hour earlier then before since we're gonna have 2 groups + knockout, every team will have 3 fights at least

Depending of the number of teams singed up it will be either Knockout from the Start (FA CUP format) or Groups First and then Knockout (Champions League format). Groups and/or Brackets will be announced shortly before the start, the point is for it to be a secret so none knows who they will be fighting against.

Best out of 5 rounds wins a match. We wanna keep it short & bloody.

Server: HRE/Fallen
When it comes to NA teams I'd rather make this EU only cause their ping is a liability, I remember that Cav Tourney, some of them were getting DC all the time but they still won as our lances went through them as if they weren't there. I don't like that randomness with hitting and disconnecting and I presume they have big enough base of players to make their own Tourneys. This is not final though, we're still thinking about it. I'll not even mention Chinese with their 400 ping and Crocodile Frank as I don't think he can find 5 Aussies to play with him.

Rules & Requirements:

None it terms of clans, nationalities, classes, gear. Play as you like, field whatever you like. Gather a team of 5 men + 2 substitutions (in case someone doesn't show up, crashes, etc), sign-up and show up some common sense. Overseers of the Tourney will be the ones typing and calling out teams that singed to fight. Others are in spectator mod.

Would be interesting if none knows about your own team except you but If you want to announce it all over the forum that you signed up and break the element of surprise there is nothing we can do about it. Also: you're not representing any clans so even if 5 + 2 Mercs sign up as a team they should think of some unfamiliar name rather then use their clan which they don't really represent at this event. Sign-up with exact names of the characters you're gonna use, overseers will check it out before the fight. 5 men is a minimum, if someone drops out you either surrender or play without him but you can QQ as you didn't bring in any subs.

To spice things up there will be some prize money: entry fee is 50k gold per team (not a lot even for shitty mud-rolling peasant beggars like Apsod), all that gold plus (possibly) some more goes to the winner.
When a team sign's up via PM Tuetten will put some offers on Marketplace and send a PM back to the captains to buy their "ticket". All gold will be guarded by Teutten and after the tournament he will give it to the winner's captain.

Sign-up deadline is Friday 21st of June 2013 AD.

Was my initial idea but we decided that its better to play on a greed card and make it all for the winner. It means little at this late stage of the mod to receive a comforting prize of those few k gold but it may mean a lot if the prize money is decent and goes to one team only. People are still greedy when it comes to substantial amount of gold for the taking.  :wink:

Gnjus could you put a spolier with a list of people who want to play but don't have a team? That way if there is 5 players or so they could make a team.

This tourney was designed with thoughts about state of this mod for some time now (and for some time now): pretty much everyone still plays from time to time, whether its being in a clan to get the beloved x5 or just roaming freely around but most of people play with those few companions on TS, whether its old clanmates, real life friends or anything, even withing clans I've noticed separation between veterans and newmy old friends on TS channels. Mostly you play with those few mates when it suits you and you don't care about others so this format should suit folks the best. Listing teamless people wasn't a part of my plans but If there's too many of them around and interested in this event I'll gladly list them in the next few days.

P.S. i didn't pay any thoughts about archers who don't have friends even in a game.  :wink:

Remember folks: you don't get to QQ in the end after you've lost a match, you fielded a team of your own preference and after initial rounds you can always modify your outfits. None will listen to crying of the dead.

TBH I never really thought about people who don't have any friends around here. My basic assumption was that anyone can connect with a few guys for a common cause but I recon Danny Glover was right about assumption being the mother of all fuck-ups.  :wink:

well...
you can spawn...we tested that map...it depends all on the max of guys who will be around...
so referees wil tell you if you are allowed to spawn as a spectator or not ;)

Cheers, I just love the abuse after I do what I'm supposed to do. Tis a joy to be in that position. I left a redirect out of courtesy so you would get a little more attention, it's not like I want to stifle the number of people entering, I don't gain anything from that.

I sincerely can't find a nice way to say that I'm not the one handicapped if I have to move someones thread to the correct place on the forums. If you have a problem with that, go whinge at someone who controls the sub-forums rather than the people who literally just put things where they're meant to be.

(Rather conveniently, the latest Cyanide and Happiness is quite apt; http://www.explosm.net/comics/3198/)

I don't know where this "people don't read the Events forum" myth comes from.  Just look at the number of views on Events threads compared to the General Discussion forum, the Suggestions forum or even the Strat General Discussion forum.  Yes more people respond to threads in the other forums but there are more views on events threads in general and so there is no evidence whatsoever to support claims that the events section is bad to use.

Are STF characters allowed? Because it is not mentioned in the rules. If so, it will be easier to form up a more dedicated team and will make "I'm a shielder if anyone wants me" messages near to pointless.

It is not mentioned simply because everything is allowed, no matter the class, the level, whether its main or STF, etc. The only "rule" is to actually play with the char you signed up with, you cannot swap between chars during the match. On the other hand - swapping between outfits is perfectly fine, its up to you to decide whether you'll stick to your starting equipment or try to adapt to the situation after some rounds.

Of course there is a possibility that there won't be lot of teams which would effectively mean that there is absolutely nothing you can do to help this mod anymore, if folks are not interested in any kind of events in the most free possible forms then It's time to move on.

Blackbow team (which im a part of) could use a back up, we arent 100% sure to make the 5 players mark since we have 1 guy with an unstable ping and 1 which doesnt come often.

I thought there was a 50k entrance fee. That's a LOT of money. Our treasurer Bjarky would never allow me to use such a huge load of money for a tournament. :(

On another hand, i'd like to help "restrain/guard" the spectator, for free (but i get the right to wield a club, while spectators are weaponless).
Just like in the "old" couching tournament, where you showed up with a damn elephant. It was a really nice event, some spectators could come, since only 8 players were "fighting" in the same time. Dunno about this one though, since lots of teams fight together. Tueten will tell us, i guess.

How long will it probably go? A guy would need to leave after like 45 minutes, so maybe we would have to exchange him with another player :P
Also, are there enough teams so that it will be on Saturday and Sunday, or will it only be on Sunday?

Why ? Cause of time frame ? I didn't think that 1 hour will make such a difference, its Sunday after all and people should go to bed earlier if they work on Monday. You can't please everyone with timings, nothing I can do about it.....

It's not because of the 1 hour difference, actually that would have helped a lot.

Yeah I'm quite familiar with that one, it usually happens that way. If you have a clan of cca 25 men you can count on 10 at most for any organized event, sometimes not even that much. People just have problems with exact timing, they prefer coming and going at their own pace.

Each team plays vs 3 others in their group, best out of 5 rounds wins the match, victory is 2 points defeat is 0. If 2 teams have the same amount of points then its the goal (rounds won) difference that counts, if its the same they play another 3-rounds match to decide who goes through. If 3 teams have it equal its only round difference then its same as in football: closing their own circle of results which counts, without the 4th team. Hopefully we won't have it so complicated. Or maybe it should be 3 points per victory to avoid it ? :wink:
A1 plays B2 in the first semi-final, A2 goes vs B1 in the second one. Winners of those matches go to the final.

People who don't play should just spectate instead of making a mess around the map so we have our job nice and easy.

You can swap your signed members and outfits as you please but you can't swap your chars. If you signed up with your main then you play with him, you can't swap to your alt.

Well I tried until now to ask several people to come, but by the looks of it it would only be me coming + 1 guy coming for like 1 match.
The other players + subs of the team + like 5 more guys I asked today are all busy and have to do linebattles, native matches, breaking their computers, taking care of ill people, studying etc. etc. etc...

So Bruddahud loses by default.
Why did they even say yes to us teaming up? Linebattles and stuff are always announced like a week ago, they could have known before so that we never needed to apply here >.<

I've just figured out that best out of 5 rounds for a single match is nonsense and it would last way too long so its gonna be best out of 3 rounds to win a single group match. 3 opponents in your group means you will play max of 9 rounds in the group stage. 6 matches per group means 18 rounds per group, 2 groups per 18 rounds means 36 rounds. Hopefully they will be short & bloody. 1 round per match is obviously too short and considering all factors you can always lose to bad luck, etc but 3 rounds per match is enough, still way better then a single eliminating round. In the semi-final & final it remains best out of 5 rounds to win a match. We just don't want this event to span til morning.

Tojten is doing the maths as I was too tired last night and I also had to change some hardware in my computer today. Hopefully he will post it some time today. We all know Team Turd (aka Byz) won so they get the money.


For some next tournaments I was thinking a bit different approach: since its all about freedom we could skip sign-up part, just announce the date (Sunday evening so it suits most people) and accept every team that shows up with 5 men. More organized teams will be ready in advance while some may be improvising and organizing at the spot when they see who came and who didn't, the thing is: lining up team captains and writing them down is not a big issue, it takes like 5 minutes if people are not trolling and jerking around, you make a list, one admin writes everything down and then makes either groups or knock-out bracket, it doesn't take long, depending on the number of teams. So even randomers can group up into a team of 5 and try their luck. Length of matches would then be decided according to the number of teams, its not a big deal, all that needs to be done is set the event 1 hour earlier then normal so admins can do their preparations.

This is just wild thinking and long-shooting ofc, any better ideas are more then welcome. I don't believe I'll have the energy to organize something again anytime soon. I'd have to permaban Pancake for acting like a jerk while he was suppose to be an admin of the event (written all over the place but the poor Greek can't read) and I wouldn't like that.

I tried to be a good host while Tojten did awesome with his miners duty, Ramses was both playing and kicking people which also requires some effort. 3 admins are enough to keep it in order I guess.

For don't waste time you can:
Do 2 match at the same time.
Make door behind the two start position

For example:
Team A vs Team B
Team C vs Team D

1 - First round of A vs B , during this round team C and team D take position at doors
2 - First round of C vs D, during this round team A and team B take position at doors.
3 - Second round of A vs B , during this round team C and team D take position at doors

ect...

And also as tueten did in this last tournament , start round after 1 min max, don't care if someone missing because that why team have 2 more people.
