I honestly have been trying to understand. I initially thought it was a timing thing. Just let the crushthrough charge for 0.5 secs, then release. But it STILL bounces off from blocks and shield.
Then I just went with a friend. I held the maul up for exactly 1 sec, released. It bounced off his shield 70% of the time.
Either this crap is bugged or something else is in play too. I have 27 strength, by the way.

Mauls were starting to get ridiculous, however completely gimping them is not the solution. I hope it works out for you maulers.

Mauls have not changed at all the past 1 year (when they were nerfed via the turn speed nerf). The only thing that changed since then is that more people used them, a fad that I semi-started (I think?). This is, at best, a meta-gaming nerf and have no bloody clue why it happened.
But yeah, this is rediculous. Also, completely random. I kept hitting my friend on the same second and it would crushthrough sometimes, sometimes it wouldn't. It is just random. I want my maul back, not RNG: the weapon :(

Honestly, strategus balancing shouldn't affect normal c-rpg that much.
I play 1 hour of strategus for every 10 hours of normal game. If this 1 hour becomes better at the expense of the 10 hours...well.

If anything more weapons should be unbalanced and have crush through.
Its realistic, very realistic and weapons with it have otherwise awful stats. It is one of those features that the game needs but the players hate for its unfairness. In reality it is balanced and beating a mauler 1v1 is not a big problem if you knew they were coming and have a weapon longer or faster or have better foot speed.

What mace do you use ? I heard the Great Maul became better than before, while others hardly ever CT.

As far as I have tried all the crushthrough 2h became knockdown weapons with very limited and situational crushthrough, basically incredibly shit bar maces but with some rare block ignoring. The exception is the great maul though, which crushes through all the time without holding at the minimum of 7 ps and does a shitload of damage on crushthrough hits now as well.
It turns at the speed of a snail though.

Crushthrough is only excellent when properly supported and has a unique role. It is not at all OP or broken, except on siege, my bet is you are a shielder and dislike that some weapons can prevent you from turtling forever.

This is quite infuriating, to be honest. Mauls, mallets etc were fine before, why change em?

Long maul gameplay has become mostly frustrating to me. It has always been kinda frustrating, because you are getting ganked so often without the possibility to actually fight back. (slow and animations are getting stuck on everything)
Overhead animation is so slow, that even with 175 wpf, experienced fighters will just close in and hit you now before you can crushthrough. Most 1h have more reach with right swing anyway.. and fighting hoplites/long spear is just a joke now^^
Chambering stabs and overheads, which was my favorite way to beat 2h, is just useless now. Fainting overheads to close in as well. So you have to rely on superslow swings, whom deal not enough damage to compete with other classes.
Long maul can be still viable in groupfights though, when you got people helping you. On top of a ladder.. and against noobs, whom don't know what to do^^
What I really would like to see, would be crushthrough for successfull chamberblocks for all directions :twisted: - to give the class some spicy skill.

Strat battles where turning into a maul fest it was getting pretty ridiculous. Could see it getting to the point where it was just mauls and nothing else. Mauls where still kinda OP on battle server and dueling obviously. Roh bringing about nerfs again by showing the CPRG community how easy "fill in the blank" class really is to play.

Sign up for some NA strat fights. 50 enemy mercs. 10 cav, 10 range, 10 shield, 10 pikes and 10 great mauls. sure it is good tactics i guess, but i just really despise crushthrough, we already have cav and range for people who don't want to actually melee; why do we need an unblockable attack with a melee weapon? in those big clusterfuck engagments in strat fights the guys with mauls just rake in the kills, it is dumb.
p.s. yes I am a shielder again after a long time, if crushthrough ONLY meant it would go through shield blocks then I wouldn't bitch as it would actually be a counter for shielders; but, crushthrough works on everything thus it is a counter to everything melee. and yes a bad player with a maul isn't too scary in a 1v1 as you can usually spam them to death, but a good player with a maul is just going to trash you, they just need to play normal until they get one overhead off and then they just repeat overheads until you are paste, good maulers have enough athletics that you can't get out of their reach.

Damn it: now , mauls looks simple wooden sticks !! That's not good for realism !! Throwing should be buffed too , a lance don't kill me .... with 30 body armor, that's a shame !!! :P
