Title: Highlander Armor Re-Textured for cRPG

Newly retextured on 5/13/13 - Decided to retexture them, again, because I wasn't satisfied with the way they looked.


I've always wished that crpg would have this amazing armor in it. I heard that it's not added because of the skin showing that is discriminating.

So I decided to retexture some of the legs that show at the bottom of the armor, under the kilts. So here it is, re-textured to look like it is cloth.

Here are the screenshots of the re-texturing.

Yeah, the skin thing, it's a bitch. For those of you who don't know what he's referring to  - any showing "skin" on armor is locked on the skin tone of the original texture - it won't update to your chosen skin tone like a naked mesh. I've been trying to find a way around this for some time with no success. Anyway, good work!

Hasn't the argument been that kilts weren't around until like the 16th century, so too new for the mod? Although that doesn't explain the new black armor, which seems to be from that same era (and sticks out worse than this Highlander stuff would, IMHO).

The game needs more armor with quality textures, especially in the <46 armor range.

Don't forget the Shashka which did technically originate from the 1300s-ish but the model we use is closer to the 19th century version.


Anywho, the updated model looks rather nice, I like it.

if they add donkeys but not armour that is good quaility like this then i dont know what CRPG is doing anymore! ADD this armour, we want more choise in what we can wear to make are characters youneek to others. I say more the better!

I don't really dig what I see on the screenshots (seems to lack a normal map and the mesh deforms a bit weird in animations), but I will check it out ingame before making a decision.

Also, Heavy Highlander Boots are fitting really well on so many armors (Mail Shirt with Fur for example).

Even though the long kilt wasn't used until the end of the 16 century (and afaik taken off before any battle) and the small kilt (like the ones in the pic) wasn't used until the late 17th early 18th centuries and the age of muskets, Killing fantasy braveheart scots will be fun :P

Out of interest, could you tell us what the reasoning was behind the decision to leave them out?

Edit: (just saw Heskeytime already asked that too, would be nice to get an insight into why certain items make it and some don't)

Like I said, the discussions of the council are not open to the public. Also, they don't even have to discuss about it, they can just vote.

I am aware that this might seem like a pretty community-unfriendly approach, but the system is set up this way so that we can get items ingame in a more timely fashion than in the past. With the current two week deadline on voting, items can get ingame in a much shorter time than in the past (at least in theory, we'll have to see if it actually works out). It's my goal that it actually doesn't take much longer than those two weeks on average from my presentation to the council until you can buy them in the market.

If we demanded explanations from the council, they would be given, and they would be contested, and there would be endless discussions over details and nothing would ever get ingame. I'm not saying the current system is perfect, as can be seen in this thread, in my opinion, but I don't think it will produce a lot of bad decisions.

Also, if something doesn't get in now, it doesn't mean it won't get in later. You guys have to get some lobbying skills (just don't bother me, like I said, I have no vote).

I voted yes for the garb and no to the others for various reasons, but I switched my vote to yes. I figured there's no use in being overly picky over my own personal taste when the items themselves meet quality standards. I'm no history buff, so I can't really say how far off it is (can't be worse than samurai armours).

A shame that the Highlander Garb didn't make it, its a nice light armour and would have been really nice for the scottish players to have.
Was never that keen on the others personally, a bit too 'Braveheart' for my liking but would have still been nice to have them added, oh well.   :|

I think this stuff didnt get a pass cause the council dislikes kilts or they generally thought it would be unimmersive. Which is hogwash, considering that the weaboostuff got added. No offence I get that its fun and I really like the look of the Light Strange Armor. But the day you added the samuraistuff is the day you practically ruined the immersion completely. We got damn vikings picking fights with katanasamurais. Why dont u just go ahead and add something like aboriginal Australian armor, since we are already halfway there.

Proposed them again after they were vetoed by Shik last year; they have been rejected without a single balancer voting in favor of adding these. The meshes are poor quality, so they can't get added even though the concept and the design have got potential.

Minor tweaks won't be enough, these seem to require a complete rework from scratch. The team will be busy with other things for quite a while, so if you guys still want these or similar armors for cRPG, please search for alternative models, make them or find people who make them for you.

Sorry for the bad news, but without massive support from the hidden talents among you, there is nothing I can do for the highland armor pack.

As a balancer, it is your job to ensure that the quality of the mod rises or at least maintains its current level with every addition, so it's only natural to say no to items which don't fulfill the standards.

In the case of the highland armor pack, I deemed it sensible to create some transparency about its proposal and the rejection. A large part of the community seems to like these armors, and some may be capable of changing the meshes for the better, so that the potential of the design doesn't go to waste just because the technical execution could have been better. Sometimes, all it takes is one person to step out of the masses and address the problem head-on.
