Title: Roleplay vs Stats
Post by: Prpavi on February 11, 2013, 10:18:42 am
Im wondering how do you pick your gear?

do you go for your personal/clan roleplay and adjust your gear to that or you try to get the weapon/armor with the best stats atm and roll with that?

what is your preffered style (do u have one at all?) and if you choose to roleplay to what extent do mu follow it.

I roll with the easter theme and am trying to to it as strick as possible yet im having problems with the gauntlets because Strange ones are the only real eastern one but are too light. there is also mixing of Chinese and Japanese weapons and armor. so im curious what exceptions do u make and why?

weapon: pikes. i started with long awlpike and since than only used 2D polearms. i wont use the ashwood pike because it looks like shit imo.
gear: 4 different kinds of stats: light, medium and heavy. i have a set of each and purely choose what looks nice imo. I dont really care about the clans restrictions because i can use everything i want (except ninja mask for my warpriest)
attributes: knifes. because its fucking awesome. my medium gear has 3 knifes. they are useless but look awesome.

Dude, we have a whole LIST of banned items... :) And don't tell me you don't want to go all kuyak when in medium armour :P Everyone is a Kuyak hero in his secret self

To answer OP: I actually enjoy when Yellow HRE swarm siege, gives this... you know... YELLOW feeling  So I support clan Role Play in this case wholeheartedly.

Also - Fallen guys have a GREAT banner to enforce RP. Since they actively prohibit heraldic stuff - you run with a pink back , if you wear heraldic armour  (a.k.a. "Dear archers, shoot me, I stand out of the crowd")

I go for looks first and stats second - simple as that. And I try to use stuff that makes me giggle or that fits to the choice of build/weapon.

I'm roleplay all the way. Smurf suit and MW stones anyone?

Maybe one day i'll bring that style back...

In NH we limit ourselves extremely and continuously add to our banned items lists after discussion among ourselves. We do not roleplay but we do try to incorporate teamwork into everything we do.

All my characters have totally RP'ed outfits, even if they're extremely far from efficient/minmaxed.

A lot of people say they go for looks, but that is not RP, if you still wear mismatching armor lol. All these bads in western armor using Miaodao make my eyes bleed >_>

Same thingy. Basically all out on looks. I dont know jack about the stats. I simply categorise armors to heavy/med/low armors based on own oppinion and go for looks. Never owned a single loomed armorpiece cause of this. Only loomed weapons.

I don't roleplay certain culture or something, the most important for me is how the gear looks, I mean, I want it without bugged parts of armor model and so on.
A like archer's style a lot, when I was archer I often stared at my awesome looking character drawing his awesome looking rusbow, and often got lance to my back in the process.  :D

I want efficiency and desire . So i try to see the better ratio weight/armor or Speed/Damage/Lenght

RP. As a Templar, I RP in that gear, usually using herladic mail as my knight, or light mail as my xbow.
When I play with my friend, we use lighter gear, like italian/german militia.
I never ever use mixed culture gear, and sometimes i even get the time period right :P

And unlike my fellow fake Templars, I am a real Templar, and only support the use of western warhorses. Saracen "ponies" couldn't be used by Western knights. They were too heavily armoured and used their horses as battering ramss, a tactic not suited to smaller horses

RP. A major part of cRPG is to me unlike as good as all other games the possibility of using beautiful, historical armaments. I cringe everytime I log into other games, over the inefficient-looking, plastic toy-seeming, fantasy bs that is supposed to be armors and weapons.

I roleplay a medieval warrior with a freaking mohawk.

But the choice of the elite scimi is based on my experience of which weapon is the best for me, while staying a one hander hero.

It seems a lot of people care about the aesthetics, I personally picked every piece of gear based on the stats and price compared to other pieces of equipment.  I could look like a mismatched clown for all I care, so long as it's effective.

I play the game because I enjoy the fighting and combat, not because it looks pretty.

I roleplay being a really nice person playing a really douchey playstyle.

The dissonance is fantastic to watch.

edit; now that I think of it, I'm not really roleplaying. So forget it.

Plate mittens is absolutely nogo wit your other armor, so you have no right to judge awesome chapel de fer.

Statistic wise all armor is fairly well balanced anyway, people trying to "min-max" in this mod are just silly.

I've never felt gimped being restricted to nordic gear.

people often take plate mittens or heavy gauntlets with armor that TOTALLY doesnt fit it. the only person that is allowed to do this is yurnero.

In general, when its about armors, i try to follow the clan theme. As for weapons, the one that i am using are following the theme and are effective stat wise so theres no problem :P
I dont understand people who go Heraldic armor, heavy gautlets and mioado... Or gear like that just so they have every thing maxed out..

Most of my looms are weapons, because I swap armor too often for a loomed set to really be worth it to me. I do have a "good" set of gauntlets and body armor though.

Today, I want to be a:
peasant
conquistador in white
conquistador in blue
filthy shoeless bandit-hobo
assassin in black
fancy lady
desert nomad
swashbuckling saint
valkyrie
witch
shiny plate-laden knight
knight in black chainmail
etc.

Too many choices to loom them all!

Didnt they change the armor penalty for gloves? Its X4 now right?

All my gear suits how I like to play.

However I keep +3 mail gauntlets because they go with practically anything.

Yes, that combined with the redonkeylous price does in no way make the heavy gauntlets a better choice than the plate mittens for the true min maxer. I actually like punching the last man standing.

Still, I'd like to see some additional bonus to melee linked to the use of light gauntlets/gloves, the heavy ones are just too good, even with light armor.

Head gear so everyone can see my nice beard =)
Body armor, wolf style pellty & fluffy
Leg gear against annoyance factor a while back of floor sweeping 2h spammers
Hand Gear pure minimax
Shields always round, always so that the banner is seen as i don't like the banners on Armors
Polearm as Anti cav so that flanking has higher survivability, needs to be sheatable needs to be usable with shield, first so i don't need to search it on the ground, second come on you know ... blocking ^^
Steel Pick, because there is no suitable sword for my purposes, high agi low str, the swords with 12 str 4ps just don't "cut" it ^^

Eastern Soldiers cap, Black lamellar, Light strange greeves, Mail Guantlets.
All black armor that looks good used to be what I wear, but then we got the awesome Eastern Cap....
Also, I ride a black horse to keep with the black armor theme.

I stick with the Fallen brown/fur theme as much as possible, except when I go full plate/longspear.  Always open helmets of course.

With a face like that, stats are always secondary.

Fun fact:  those hide boots were the first piece of gear I bought.  They smell awful.

Much preferred big 2h but German/Danish I find are too slow now and vulnerable to any agi build.

Miadao I find most effective and seem to have a decent window to block/counter anyone but I find it dull after a while. Also I prefer north west euro gear.

Usually use claymore because I like it and not too slow, amazing the difference 2 speed points makes.

Armour used to go with viking gear but kuyaks I like and still look pretty viking but 1 hit headshots mean sugarloaf helmet - looted maybe?

Fanboy-ism to this or that weapon or 'class', meaning teenagers will rave about what is usually the counter to their 'class' or 'skills' or something they've never tried, cannot grasp or for which they cannot adapt. It was sarcasm, the forums are overspilling with both.

Banded Armor is one of the few armors that actually looks good on a female, and Splinted Leather Graves accompany the body armor it was designed to match. Hourglass is classy as always. Most people tell me that Hounskull looks ugly, but I just tell them that they should have blocked left.

This is my favorite look x (heirloomed) armor level/efficiency, which explains why I've stuck with this set of gear for 2 years. It does lead to people instantly recognizing me on the battlefield, but it's not worth the look/armor efficiency tradeoff to change up my gear.
