Title: Polestun/Polestagger?
Post by: Commodore_Axephante on January 30, 2013, 03:30:43 pm
I'm looking for a current update and a history lesson...

What is/was polestun/polestagger? In what ways was it nerfed, in what ways does it still exist, and what weapons does it apply to? All polearms? Stab only? Is it different on NA and EU?

Thanks, and sorry if this has been addressed many times before. Couldn't find anything definitive.

Polestagger (polestun) was when you hit someone with a polearm, it would sometimes stun them and you would get a free hit. It applied to all non blunt polearms, but is removed now.

It is removed because the 2hand heroes kept crying about it being unfair, because lolstab is fair after all..

It was removed because developers removed it. If you think that I or any other "2H hero" can influence Paul or cmp to do anything, you're wrong.

From the current Arrow/Polestagger discussion over in general...

  • Polestun wasn't removed entirely, polearms still stop people (people hit by polearms can block, but lose all momentum, which usually fucks them up), while other melee weapons don't.

Is that true? There is still a remnant of the old effect around?

This mod suffers from heavy 2h lobbyism, please don`t make me repeat my words.

The poleaxe is the most OP weapon in the game right now, so either:

A) The 2h lobbyists are really bad at their jobs.
B) You are wrong.

I have noticed that as well, even though getting hit by a polearm does not prevent you from blocking anymore, it does seem to stop you dead in your tracks.

Polestagger had a 50% chance of occuring as far as I know. It made you stagger, while not being able to move or block for almost a second. It was far from always a sure double hit, only if you do a very fast second attack. Ashwood pike with 32p unloomed, full turning and polestagger was hilarious. If you are really curious you can still experience polestagger in its full glory on EU_4.

Maybe, but these lobbyist haven't made any progress so far. Who knows what is behind all those nerfs. Certainly not the likes of me, Rufio and Tzar.

^ Yes, and I`m Batman.

You look more like Bane, tbh.

I`ve already said it but that`s ok, I shall say it one more time.

70% of this community plays as a 2hander, the devs are afraid to nerf their class because of massive rage or quitting the mod, and before you say that I talk nonesense look at this examples.

Banok, a well known katana hero, now rolls with a shield though

shield was already most op weapon in the game. i would definitely reroll shielder now if it wasnt so mind numbly boring to play. guess I could go archer or just quit playing all together.

GTX after a small nerf in the stats of GGS and DS.

Time to go polearm, since danish/german is useless.

Banok cries because shielders got a slightly buff, and GTX..well is GTX.

Now, imagine what will happen if a REAL 2H NERF comes to the mod..

:)

You just pulled that out of your ass. We both know that's not true. Just because twohanders kill you most of the time doesn't mean there is 70% 2H players. Yes, there is a lot of turkish/spanish players who are 2H but there isn't really that much 2H players compared to earlier version of cRPG.

I'm sorry to say, but after some recent experience playing in EU3 and EU1 I must admit 2h needs no nerf. It is already punished enough by ranged and such.
Though it's hard to judge as a regular player. I hope devs see in in more objective view and know what to do.
PS: I'm shielder, just to avoid misunderstanding.  :D

Have you checked out my armory? I play 2H yet I have no loomed 2H weapons. Marketplace is a place where people trade, that doesn't mean they use all that stuff.

And everyone wants a MW Longsword because it's good and has a pretty good price on the market.

Please leshma..

By your logic wouldnt shielders be the most popular? 3/10s of the list is 2h and 1/2 the list is 1h/shield.

No, because the offered list is what matters the most.

I mean look, not to contribute to the thread being massively derailed, but just for the sake of logic - isn't the offered list a list of what everyone's trying to get rid of? Wouldn't that be a list of the least popular items, since everyone's trying to pawn them off?

No, because the offered list is what matters the most.

People want to get rid off 2Hs and request a lot of 1H/shield stuff. What's the most popular nowadays then? :P

3 2hander items on the req list.

3 2hander on the offer items list.

It`s plain simple, the numbers are equal the weapons are changing.

Polestagger (polestun) was when you hit someone with a polearm, it would sometimes stun them and you would get a free hit. It applied to all non blunt polearms, but is removed now.
Overhead from long spear (called pike that time) was stunning as well so it could be blunt attack.

And ye... all who think stun was not that bad should go EU4.

Polearms with knockdown, not polearms with blunt damage.

2 handers will always be popular because...

They're big ass swords. People always like big ass swords in any game
One of the key game mechanics is manual blocking and some people play simply because they like how the melee combat works
The animations feel "right", like they fluidly chain together and they look good.
All the attack directions are decent

With polearms you get the weapon caught on stuff
You get extra weight because of the lengths of poles which doesn't translate into better weapon performance (its just to nerf long spear/pike but affects all poles)
The attacks don't feel as fluid as 2 hand/harder to feint convincingly with
Lots of cheaper poles that don't perform anywhere near as well as cheaper 2 handers
Hardly any Unbalanced weapons is a big + for me
Versatile weapon selections. Anti cav, dueling, support, shield breaker

I don't think you should nerf based on popularity alone. The manual blocking mechanic and the way the weapons look and feel is probably the main thing that makes them popular
