Title: Stalker Online
Post by: Vexus on November 27, 2012, 01:02:16 pm
Guys I present you S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Online!

It's being made by the community and is free to play.

The game is currently in russian but there's a "beta version" in english which translates most needed information.

It's open pvp apart of some safe zones near towns or camps and when killed there a chance to drop some stuff from your inventory, not equipped stuff. (There's a skill you can upgrade in luck which lessens drops by 30% on loot and 60% on weapons in inventory)

You can make clans unlike dayz and join parties, there are quests that help you gain money (You will need loads of it) which helps you buy weapons, ammo, medkits, armour and bags. Items have durability even bags and once 0% they can't be repaired anymore and have to be discarded so don't forget to repair!

There's anomalies like in the single player game and these are the main source of income and later in the game there are some npcs that let you trade some items and anomalies for awesome weapons/armour. You can spot anomalies by press Q which throws a rock on the ground. Some anomalies 1-2 hit you while others deal damage the longer you remain in the anomaly so be careful.

Hitting enemies in the face deals most damage even on monsters.

Just like the single player you have 3 slots for weapons, 1 grenades, another for pistol and the other for shotgun/machine gun/rifle/heavy weapons.

It's hard solo but rewarding. (If you see a bear and you're still new run away, far away he's a beast)

Anyway that's it maybe you guys will like it and try it out.

Ps. My character ingame name is noxserpens but there is no friend list so you either pm me or we need to be close/in the same clan to talk.

I hope so, because this game has the worst player animation I've ever seen.

Have to agree, but.. have you seen how Dead Island looked from third person?

Not sure I've seen that. I do remember Dead Island being a terrible game and huge disappointment for me, but can't recall 3rd person mode.

But check out this video, it's damn hunchback online... not even Pro Evolution Soccer is this bad.

Well, you shouldn't be able to see those animations but it's hilarious to watch  :)

Sadly there is no first person but I don't mind that much the movement animation once you are out of the first camp you'll start looking for possible danger not your character's ass.

All enemies apart of the tiny rats deal good/great damage on you. (Most damage either by critical or backstep)

I'll upload some pictures later so you guys can see some anomalies and such.

Honestly the graphics on the environment are really good for something done by the community it's a shame the advanced button doesn't work in the english version you could probably make it show even better :/

Something interesting I find in this game is the possibility on having 2 head equipments if they can be worn together realistically.

Later in the game I'm seeing people with gas masks and a helmet on top something akin fallout.

--

A tip for you people, when you "level" combat and get some skill points to spend GET THE RUN SPEED BOOST you will need it for most stuff specially to run away vs slowish enemies. (Don't bother running away from wolves/dogs, bears, boars and some other stuff they can reach you)

And I haven't said it in the first post but yes in this stalker there are the "zombies" of stalker and are sneaky bastards.

(If anyone requires tips on how to gain best amount of money fast let me know here and I'll post it altough it's kinda boring but I wouldn't suggest anyone to go in the 2nd map without a 2nd gun as the best pistol you can buy in the first map is weak)

[Edit]

Here's some screenshots showing the tornado anomaly, some scenery and a zombie in the night. (Yes day/night cycle, wind power which shows on the trees moving and even rain tough it's a little buggy in which rain keeps on falling on you even inside some buildings)

You will need to attach a torch to your weapons specially in the 2nd map onwards eventually because nights are very dark specially if you intend on playing it windowed.

You've peaked my interest, Stalker + Open PVP? YES PLEASE! Just one question, how many bullets does it take to kill other players? Don't think I'll much like it if players are bullet sponges...
Title: Re: Stalker Online

Not sure exactly but there was some jerk that shot me with a pistol or machine gun at my back while I was fighting some monsters in the houses... He did it twice and killed me pretty fast although I was 50% health, never seemed to find him out and get revenge :/ .

When I fought a dumb dude that excpected to get the share of the loot when I cleared all the house myself it took me around a clip and a half to kill him. (Aiming is not that accurate while moving so I missed some shots)

In the 2nd map while trying to get anomalies I was yet again attacked from behind to loot the anomaly I found but it didn't drop haha. I didn't even have chance to turn around and respond to the fire, he had a better gun than me maybe that's why. (I wasn't full health on this occasion too as to get anomalies you either risk dying in 1-2 hits or get damaged every x seconds)

Anyway after these accidents I started saving money and bought best vest which grants 40% in bullets reduction and pants for now. (I think different body parts have different protection)

So to conclude, no they don't take ages to die.

I wouldn't suggest shooting randomly near first camp tough, you will get criminal status after x kills and/or new people won't have anything good to loot. (To loot a person when killed you have 10 seconds chance by running to him press F and instead of using medkit there's another option else if he tries to spawn to camp he has a chance to drop some loot.)

(I'm not a pvper tough)

Suddenly, Russian. :c
Wat?

Also, was in the starting zone, doing the starting quest.

My first PvP:
As I was shooting some rats, I suddenly hear gunshots behind me and my character grunting out in pain. In DayZ and WarZ I always have a rule of don't shoot first unless cornered, and I had the same mindset here. Fucker shot first, fucker was going down.

The moment I got hit, I started sprinting forward and took cover behind a pillar. This seemed to be some mysterious voodoo tactics to my assailant, who was still standing in the middle of the railway, completely open, shooting at me. Didn't hit me once, apart from the first shot (when I was standing still), so he obviously couldn't aim for shit. I saw that he too had the crappy starting pistol (rusty makarov). Since I had cover (and VASTLY better aim, seriously this guy was bad. He barely hit the bigass pillar I was behind), I went crouched to improve my aim and started putting bullets in him. After I put 3-4 bullets in his chest, he realized getting into cover would be a smart move for him too. As he ran behind a lampost (that actually covered all of him, lol), I shot 5 more bullets at him while he ran, but only hit with 2. The rusty makarov isn't exactly the most accurate gun. We then stood behind each our covers and took potshots at each other. He was being extremely cautious and I was wondering how many additional bullets I needed to drop him.

After 2-3 more hits in his chest (and him getting 1 solid hit on me), he stopped trying to shoot me and just stood behind his dear lamppost. I reloaded and moved out of cover, trying to make him show himself. He kept standing there, so I moved towards his lamppost and tried to go around it. He went the opposite way, so that we couldn't shoot each other. I smiled as I realized he probably had no health left. Since mine was still pretty good (think it was 75% or something), I just sprinted so I could quickly get around his cover, he shot me once, but I shrugged it off and put a bullet in him. He died at my feet and a victorious cheer came out of me. Take that randomer scum.

Sadly, he didn't drop anything so I basically wasted ammo on him. I dunno why he started shooting at me, considering we both just had the starting pistol and ammo, so PvP would just be a waste of ammo. Although I realized how big of an idiot he was when he immediately after he respawned, started whining about how I'm a my old friend, how he could beat me easily "if the game didn't suck". I tried telling him that shooting a guy in the back, only to be killed by him in the following firefight is his and his fault only, and that he shouldn't whine about a better player killing him when he was the aggressor.

Fucking kids. Shooting at someone and then whining about them shooting back? These are the kind of players that should just stop playing multiplayer games. Being a bandit is fine. Being a bandit and whining when someone successfully defends themselves is just fucking pathetic.

The worst part is that if he had gone for a headshot he would have had a massive advantage in the fight. If he had started out shooting at me while already in or near cover would be an even bigger one. But just blindly hipfiring at someone when you first spot them? That's just being an idiot. I surveyed the place after the firefight and I noticed a that not far behind where I originally stood, there was a slightly elevated spot with good cover. If he had gone there when he saw me (and decided to kill me), he would have had a good position with no cover close to me from which he couldn't still hit me. Instead he decided to just fire at me from the open. What an idiot.

But to sum up:

You can easily get an advantage over other players if you just play smart. If you spot someone first, you can more often than not, find a good firing position at them.
Rushing in and just blindly shooting is not the way, but you also don't get killed by 2 bullets, meaning you have a (small, if the enemy knows what he is doing) chance of survival if you manage to leg it into cover and then outplay them.
Headshots seem to do really good damage. On my makarov it seems to do on average double the damage than body shots.
As in the other Stalker games. ANOMALIES CAN FUCK YOUR SHIT UP! Be weary of them. Don't fuck around with them. If you want the item, just run in and grab it, then run out, but make sure you got full health first.
I don't know yet, but I am assuming that the non-starting guns can easily kill an unarmoured player in 3-4 bullets at the most. Probably less. At least that's how it was in the other Stalker games.
Body armour is probably a "must have" when you get some money. Same in the other stalker games, you really can't run around without some protection.

And last but not least: Noobs gonna be noobs. While I like the tenseness and skill that comes from ArmA with every weapon being able to kill you in few bullets, I must say I like this here too. Being able to turn an ambush on the ambusher because they failed to get into a good position first or failing to do a close up headshot, really feels rewarding. It takes a different type of skill than ArmA, but it's still great fun. At least for me. Now to grind some rats, feral hounds and trash cans so I can get some money from the hobos to buy a better gun :D

Best way to farm money in the starting map is to farm dog heads, seriously.

100 heads = 8.6k

I always farmed like 300 heads (Bag limit weight with a bag equipped) and get monies :P

Ps. Zapper to loot someone you need to go near the body and press F then there's an option BUT you only have 10 seconds chance unless he's stupid enough to try and raise in the spot else there's a chance he might drop stuff if he decides to teleport to safety.

I also suggest you do the quests from the homeless people near the train you will be able to get a makarov for free from the inside of the train boxes. (If no one else loots it else you have to wait for it to have items again.)

This can be done only once tough, you can still craft the pistol yourself with a string and 2 other pieces I currently don't know the name. (You can find what you need from the repairmen, he let's you craft some basic bullets and that gun.)

Pvp will shine in a clan vs clan when you capture some camps and other clans try to take it away from your clan or stealing items from people I guess. (On 2nd map many will try to steal your artefact if they see you taking one before them sadly.)

Guys if any of you still playing this there's going to be a server wipe for a new patch. (People ingame saying it's because of some hackers/exploiters gaining advantages)

Man if I knew I wouldn't have started playing it until there wouldn't be no server wipes :/

Sounds like it is going to a be childrens camp fest once it comes out. As in, you move 2 feet from spawn and people will be douchy enough to kill you for your starting pistol and ammo, or just for shits.

If you try to bash a game at least go look at it's information first.

Hardly bashing it, just repeating what it sounds like from what i've read in this thread.

It would have been better for you to correct me without being a dick and cite why it wont be a camp fest.

I believe there's plenty of information here I gave and since I keep on playing it and in a clan and such If you really wanted to know more on the game you could have asked before making assumptions without reading.

I hate pvping but this game is hardly a childrens camp fest as you call it.

Ok guys some more bad news if it really goes trough.

Now I know why there will be a server wipe. Apart of the hackers/exploiters gaining advantages the main reason is they are going to change the leveling system and they said they can't implement it without wiping everything out.

Pretty lame in my opinion but anyway what is worse is they are planning on making it from free to play with an over powered cash shop (Seriously check it out, it can make you a bad ass with no sweat but the prices are so high few bothered buying stuff.) to pay to play. Now there's nothing wrong with pay to play I would pay if the game deserves it but this game while fun is certainly not pay 2 play material.

Many bugs, horrible translation, bad server, bad balance, awful descriptions on guns, artifacts and even monster drops sometimes vanish (You either relog and have few seconds chance to get it or if you know the exact location you can go there and spam Z I learned it today.), enemy base npcs have awful ai that makes them over powered (Their bullets pass through anything even whole mountains and always hit) and probably more.

They said it would be 4.99 per month which is low true but the game is not ready for something like that.

Both the wipe and this have no date yet and since I don't have much games to play that are similar to a zombie apocalypse (I like the sense of danger everywhere and being alone most of the times.) I'm sticking with it for now.

If you still play and want to join a clan let me know I'm in a clan named Mafia and we have a big clan as enemy Last_Light (They got at war with us because we are growing in size and they are annoyed with our clan for taking artifacts from the maps.... What a stupid reason.) so there's action all the time.

Anyway that's it, I'm currently trying to make my character look like slenderman have already a white gas mask but there's no black suit sadly so I'm trying to find a black jacket as substitute :P
