Suddenly, Russian. :c
Wat?
Also, was in the starting zone, doing the starting quest.
My first PvP:As I was shooting some rats, I suddenly hear gunshots behind me and my character grunting out in pain. In DayZ and WarZ I always have a rule of don't shoot first unless cornered, and I had the same mindset here. Fucker shot first, fucker was going down.
The moment I got hit, I started sprinting forward and took cover behind a pillar. This seemed to be some mysterious voodoo tactics to my assailant, who was still standing in the middle of the railway, completely open, shooting at me. Didn't hit me once, apart from the first shot (when I was standing still), so he obviously couldn't aim for shit. I saw that he too had the crappy starting pistol (rusty makarov). Since I had cover (and VASTLY better aim, seriously this guy was bad. He barely hit the bigass pillar I was behind), I went crouched to improve my aim and started putting bullets in him. After I put 3-4 bullets in his chest, he realized getting into cover would be a smart move for him too. As he ran behind a lampost (that actually covered all of him, lol), I shot 5 more bullets at him while he ran, but only hit with 2. The rusty makarov isn't exactly the most accurate gun. We then stood behind each our covers and took potshots at each other. He was being extremely cautious and I was wondering how many additional bullets I needed to drop him.
After 2-3 more hits in his chest (and him getting 1 solid hit on me), he stopped trying to shoot me and just stood behind his dear lamppost. I reloaded and moved out of cover, trying to make him show himself. He kept standing there, so I moved towards his lamppost and tried to go around it. He went the opposite way, so that we couldn't shoot each other. I smiled as I realized he probably had no health left. Since mine was still pretty good (think it was 75% or something), I just sprinted so I could quickly get around his cover, he shot me once, but I shrugged it off and put a bullet in him. He died at my feet and a victorious cheer came out of me. Take that randomer scum.
Sadly, he didn't drop anything so I basically wasted ammo on him. I dunno why he started shooting at me, considering we both just had the starting pistol and ammo, so PvP would just be a waste of ammo. Although I realized how big of an idiot he was when he immediately after he respawned, started whining about how I'm a my old friend, how he could beat me easily "if the game didn't suck". I tried telling him that shooting a guy in the back, only to be killed by him in the following firefight is his and his fault only, and that he shouldn't whine about a better player killing him when he was the aggressor.
Fucking kids. Shooting at someone and then whining about them shooting back? These are the kind of players that should just stop playing multiplayer games. Being a bandit is fine. Being a bandit and whining when someone successfully defends themselves is just fucking pathetic.
The worst part is that if he had gone for a headshot he would have had a massive advantage in the fight. If he had started out shooting at me while already in or near cover would be an even bigger one. But just blindly hipfiring at someone when you first spot them? That's just being an idiot. I surveyed the place after the firefight and I noticed a that not far behind where I originally stood, there was a slightly elevated spot with good cover. If he had gone there when he saw me (and decided to kill me), he would have had a good position with no cover close to me from which he couldn't still hit me. Instead he decided to just fire at me from the open. What an idiot.
But to sum up:You can easily get an advantage over other players if you just play smart. If you spot someone first, you can more often than not, find a good firing position at them.
Rushing in and just blindly shooting is not the way, but you also don't get killed by 2 bullets, meaning you have a (small, if the enemy knows what he is doing) chance of survival if you manage to leg it into cover and then outplay them.
Headshots seem to do really good damage. On my makarov it seems to do on average double the damage than body shots.
As in the other Stalker games. ANOMALIES CAN FUCK YOUR SHIT UP! Be weary of them. Don't fuck around with them. If you want the item, just run in and grab it, then run out, but make sure you got full health first.
I don't know yet, but I am assuming that the non-starting guns can easily kill an unarmoured player in 3-4 bullets at the most. Probably less. At least that's how it was in the other Stalker games.
Body armour is probably a "must have" when you get some money. Same in the other stalker games, you really can't run around without some protection.
And last but not least: Noobs gonna be noobs. While I like the tenseness and skill that comes from ArmA with every weapon being able to kill you in few bullets, I must say I like this here too. Being able to turn an ambush on the ambusher because they failed to get into a good position first or failing to do a close up headshot, really feels rewarding. It takes a different type of skill than ArmA, but it's still great fun. At least for me. Now to grind some rats, feral hounds and trash cans so I can get some money from the hobos to buy a better gun
