Title: The why of grind, unlockables ?

Actually, just let me talk for a while. Here sit down and listen to some soothing smooth jazz:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4xy-wxc1Y0

I forgot how much caffine is in soda, since I don't really drink it that often. As i was tossing and turning in a vain effort to salvage some sleep I had a no doubt unoriginal idea:

So hows about as a boost to character customization, and a reason to keep on leveling and grinding we introduce armor and gear that is not really better, just showy and neat as a way to say, hey, I am badass and have a level 500 golden suit of bling.

***note***
Gear does not have to be silly, just unique

It could really spice things up if some stuff was "rare". I have no idea how this would work with the current system, but I think it would really make my day if I knew my grindings were to be rewarded with a +1 head-of-donkey-helmet.

Maybe players could trade in 3 masterworks for a rising sun kamikaze bandanna, or a bronze hoplon shield I dunno, look at tf3 as proof that players love to wear jewelry.

Its great , genius even, since it will not effect balance at all, in fact if it gets rid of masterworks as people trade them in, it actually would improve it.

 Behold! science!

Rather have the option to name (w)horses, weapons and shields. But I guess that would require a lot of work.

This wont work. unlike team fortress, warband 'hats' come with head armor and cant scale with your level.

Yes !!!

But I would hate silly hats in cRPG. There are enough of them already. Other cosmetic options would be nicer (naming, retexturing for heirloomed gear...)

Agreed, I just used the silly hats as an example of a game that has done something similar with good results.

I like this idea, would keep the grinders interested and rewarded. It would also be cool with "magical neclasses" that work as a heavy weighing helmet protecting you and all, but it looks like you're helmetless.

An other thing, slightly about the grinding, I think repairing should only be on armor, since now only the grinders who have loads of money can afford to use decent weapons (atleast when it comes to xbows). The best weapons in the game arent that OP that they should be very very expensive to keep using.

It would be nice to have certain weapon and armor unlockables. They would (probably) have the same stats as other weapons but have better textures.

No one can resist the power of smooth jazz!!!!  So.... when can I expect to trade in my three masterwork weapons for a golden face mask?  :D :D :D

We already have green and pink punk hairs, carnival japanese panoplies... I am bit wary about funky items. If implemented, could we please limit this to things reasonably medieval?

I could thinky of jewelry (on clothes, armors, or weapons) that would be cool.

I totally agree, I would hope that it was all tasteful gear, the devs have shown pretty good taste in what makes it into the game so if this does end up happening im sure it will continue to be classy.

You brought a graph, this idea must be good otherwise it wouldn't have a graph.

Yeah make some more things to achieve, with ridiculous requirements and within the realm of sanity items.

I agree as long they stay medieval, no donkey hats, but yes to jewel decorated armors or rare ones.

+1 for this, just don't copy TF2. TF2's system of hats and shit is dumb. I'd rather trade in 3 MWs for like... a retextured armor piece that you can only get this way. Don't limit it to only hats, and definitely don't do random ass bunny ear hats. Keep it within the realm of the game and it's an awesome idea.

i was talking about this in teamspeak yesterday.

Basically i agree with you in the sense that hardcore players should get equipment that isnt nessesarily better than other items, but are different. The higher gen you are the more variety of armors, weapons, and funny things

but no practical combat advantage

Exactly no need to effect the balance of the game at all with +whatever gear and heirlooms. give us bling!
