Title: Cube World
Post by: SeQuel on October 13, 2012, 06:11:06 pm
I've been following this game for quite some time but now that the developer has released a bit more information I figured I'd make a thread to get people just as excited as me for it.  :P

Cube World is a open world RPG. It has levels, items, classes and quests from what the developer has stated. The game has bosses, multiple weapons like Bows, Shields, Swords, Greatswords, Daggers, Staffs and you can even dual wield, even different armor sets like light, medium and heavy.

Here are some Classes

Warrior

Warriors are masters of close-range combat. They wear heavy armor and can wield swords, axes, maces, greatswords, greataxes, greatmaces and shields.

Warriors can be Guardian or Berserker.
- Guardians have increased health and defensive abilities.
- Berserkers profit from war frenzy, which increases their attack speed with each hit.

Ranger

Rangers defeat their foes from the distance. They wear medium armor and can attack with bows and crossbows.

Rangers can choose between Sniper and Scout
- Snipers are specialized on accurately aimed range attacks.
- Scouts are more mobile are good in mid-range combat.

Spirit Mage

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Spirit Mages use their mind to control the spirit and to cast powerful spells. In contrast to all other classes they passively generate spirit over time. They wear light armor and can use staffs and wands.

Spirit Mages specialize on fire or water spells.
- Fire Mages can shoot firebolts and fireballs to burn their enemies.
- Water Mages can cast water drops and water splashes. The resulting water puddles heal friendly targets.

Rogue

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Rogues are stealthy fighters specialized on sneaking, cheating and fast attacks. They wear medium armor and can use daggers, fist weapons and longswords (I'm also thinking about adding shurikens and other throwing weapons).

Specialization: Rogues can follow the way of the Assassin or the Ninja
- Assassins ambush enemies using stealth attacks.
- Ninjas are specialized on evasion and counter attacks.

Here is some gameplay of multiplayer and gives you a general idea of what the game is like:

The game currently doesn't have an official website I guess you could say as the developer posts everything on his blog found here: http://wollay.blogspot.ca/ and here is the F.A.Q  http://wollay.blogspot.ca/2011/11/extended-cube-world-faq.html

Anyone else excited for the game? Some of the downsides of the game so far is that it doesn't seem like the world is randomly generated (I could be wrong but it would be awesome if it was) and there isn't much information on any kind of release date . Would be super cool if the developer allowed/supported modding too.

Minecraft with a catch? I like the combatsystem thou. If I could build a little house or castle Minecraftstyle and go adventuring it would rock.

I'm not sure if there is any free build, not quite sure how they would implement it. Though it seems to have pretty good combat which in my opinion will give it more play time then Minecraft FOR ME personally as one thing I hated about Minecraft is that the end game was to build shit which I didn't like, I was more of a explorer/survival kind of guy but you can only do so much of that before it gets boring since Minecraft combat is quite stale.

Yeah I see what you mean. Simply integrating that kind of combat into the existing MC would already be awesome.

What is funny with all these minecraft look-alikes is that sometimes the industry leaves you thinking they saw minecraft and concluded "customers like cubes !" instead of what minecraft really is about.

The game is more focused on RPG elements rather than free building, I do believe there is player housing but you gotta use blue prints and what not. Even notch is excited about the game as he tweeted it looked awesome.

It does look interesting. I can imagine this being pretty fun with open PvP and faction warfare and whatnot :D It's like minecraft but more focus on combat and RPG.

I tried it for about an hour yesterday, I bought it because my RL friend was bothering me about it to join him. It's a pretty cool game, I think the combat system is nice and could be great if they keep working on it. Should be pretty fun in PvP as well.

I do hope they put in some better textures for the cubes. I'm not against cube-like graphics, but minecraft at least has better textures.

That bloody whirlwind magic spell is a real bugger! I've been playing with my brother & a good mate, one as a healer & the other as a warrior (naturally I'm an archer), great fun despite some rage worthy moments with instant target switching attacks when fighting bosses just wiping one of us out (usually the warrior who is fond of bouncing around because he put so many points into his first skill)

I hope people are finding a similar problem with the agro, no matter how hard we try, on the longer fights I always gain the mob's attention (I can only assume because I'm dealing the most damage) and particularly on boss fights where I end up leaping around like a nutter, having invested heavily in the second skill (sniping is great for groups of mobs, but terrible for bosses past the first three or four barrages, you just get obliterated) in order to avoid the attacks.
The poor warrior is on knockdown & "wtf is behind Tenne" duty because my brother was rather awful at it, his way of informing me I was backing into four monsters was to go "mmmmwweeweeemwemweee!" into his microphone.

Anyway, needless to say, I've written my experiences of moments that amused me so I'd give this a thumbs up, but only if you have a couple of people to play with, it's a different experience solo.

Yeah it is pretty great. I like that the game is not too easy. Developers have stopped making challenging games, this is a nice change.

I've been playing for a few days couple hours here and there.

So far, I love it. I got a level 16 Rogue and 16 Ranger. I'm favoring ranger more at the moment but a good reason could be because of this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsU-LqJi5sQ

It's a hang gliding glitch for rangers that makes your hang glider go really quick. Also theres a crossbow glitch at the moment where you can spam your right click ability as fast as you can click it which is OP. I'm sure all of this will be fixed but I'm enjoying the base mechanics of the Ranger so I'll probably stick to it even have these bugs get fixed.

The combat is fun, I always wanted a game LIKE minecraft but more combat focused. The developer Wollay also seems 110% more interested in his game than Notch did, he has a lot of plans for the future for this game so I'm excited to see how it plays out. My only problem is apparently from what I heard leveling only gets easier the higher you get and the starting levels being the toughest.

I think I'm going to start the investment into hang gliding... I didn't realise that I could keep the speed while on one of those though, I used to just jump each time I landed to keep the speed going & to outrun my party. I hope that stays though, because getting around is quite the pain in the arse :D

You only need 1 hang gliding skill to do that, the glitch is based of your number 2 skill which fucks with the momentum of the game.

Equip glider, run backwards and hit 2 and you'll go flying.

Yep, once I tested it out and worked out the best way to do it I made sure I waited for the perfect time to do it while playing with friends, jumped off a cliff in tandem, one either side of me. "Nice synchronised jump, we'll make it together for once" - I couldn't resist and launched (I had 32 in the jump skill at the time, no need to invest in movement skills now) to the sounds of confused grunts as I squeaked "Wheeee!" down the mic.

Not directly related, but you'd be welcome if this comes to fruition; Trying to get a server to run on my VPS. So far we've only managed to break the "four player limit" and spawn multiples of one person (I have a video but realised that my brother had been messing around with the naming his pet, it allegedly stopped him from choosing "Epona" for his horse but allowed "Rapist" and as such he spawned multiple pets named "Rapist Horse", immaturely hilarious in the video)

It allowed us to run 8 players simultaneously before the server had had enough on 9, it was done by typing /connect IP while on the server, the old connections apparently stayed open. The party bar only showed four people, myself, "Jikuu", "Caldure" & "Caldure" while there were in fact four Caldure's & two Jikuu's before it crashed out. So I reckon if I can get it to run on the VPS, 8 people would be able to be connected at once.

EDIT: Just watched the video back again and realised that after the ninth connection that brought down the server, the fourth player became some unnamed level 1 warrior.

Still telling silly stories that no one cares about, means I'm still enjoying it!

Be careful, the 3rd skill for the Scout class crashes servers. I didn't figure this out for a while with my friend and we were completely confused until I realized what was happening.

I torrented it just to see if I even like the gameplay. Actually really digging it so far. It's like Zelda meets Terraria meets Minecraft, minus the focus on building. Only thing keeping me from buying full version is lack of friends who would play it with me. Definitely seems like it would be a million times better with other people to play with.
