Title: Common Decency on these forums

I'm sure i can find more. What is with the community continually suppressing the fact that people take time out of their playing session, to make a thread for someone RUINING their experience and are then treated with contempt by the player base, and in some instances, the admins. It's Sickening. There should be no reason to insult or demean someone who makes a ban thread as an unaffiliated party. Can we clean up the community and have some common decency?

This isn't limited to ban threads either. You can see it in other sections as well, such as the Strat section.

You are fairly bad at it as well, gnjus. I'm just stating it's sickening to see people insult each other over these boards. I could link to strat stuff, but I'm not going to cause there's WAY to much there. Maybe just linking to 1 thread should be enough.

I do find that NA players are worse about it due to our common language and easier to understand one another compared to the multi racial, multi lingual EU that not everyone can speak the same language.

I can't think of it, but If you don't know the person, they are likely to be an ass.

because the real trolls are the one's making the ban requests on the forums

no one likes a rat and the expected standard in this mod is to serve on hands and knees to anyone who posts a fake screenshot or out of context chat log and reward them with a ban on whoever they want

god damn who the fuck cares if you got TKd and lost 1 minute of videogame playing, go play some nintendo DS final fantasy remake and sperg out there if you can't deal with real players in your games

The vast majority of ban requests are not from trolls. Though some do not have sufficient evidence to warrant a ban and are generally a waste of time. Some people do not like being TK/TWed more then others, there has to be some sort of policing or else this place would be even more of a mad house.

Your three examples of "neutral parties" posting ban threads:

1) Guy who was given the custom title "really mad bro" by an admin previously
2) Guy who is currently "watched" status
3) Registered a few weeks ago, 0 posts other than "ban this guy he said fuck my mother"

The first two also have negative forums reputation (while not the be-all-end-all of summing up a person, you can infer that maybe they made poor posting decisions at the very least).

(click to show/hide)

If this is a serious post, you should dig for some better evidence. Maybe the rest if the game's population isn't conspiring against them. maybe they are the insufferable assholes. Except that last guy, he is new to c-rpg and apparently the internet at large.

Yeah I'm an admin, that means I have way more experience with this ban request shit than you or anyone else posting in this thread.

Newsflash:  most people who post ban requests are insufferable manchildren who probably deserved to be TK'd

Of course sometimes its valid but I have to admit that is most likely the exception than the rule.  How many mods or games or anything have such an active ban request subforum anyways?  Its a perverse outlet for people to grief, troll, or otherwise ruin the game by getting bans on whomever, whenever they want.

Also Neutral as in they aren't related to the case. Just because they have low ranking doesn't mean a thing. One guy went from 0-150 renown for asking for auto blocker.

The reason I would make posts like this is because you get people who say shit like this about the ban thread section(from an admin no less):
Quote
Newsflash:  most people who post ban requests are insufferable manchildren who probably deserved to be TK'd
It's more than that section though. Hop over to strat and watch the insufferable character attacks there(Josho Shogunate or LLJK threads are some I can name off top of my head).

The irony of the replies given the subject at hand is overwhelming.

Tears is quite right. Started with asking people to have decency on the forums and what do you get....

http://forum.meleegaming.com/general-discussion/who-would-win-in-a-cav-duel/msg621874/#msg621874
I See it more from admins(and those that hang with this said group) more than lets say the other admins. You see it more over ban threads(if coming from admin) more so than regular people. But on strat board....no such thing as decency.

All posted by the same guy. I haven't felt the need to post a ban request, ever. Same thing for the vast majority of cRPG players. Yet this guy somehow managed to get tk'd, qml'd and insulted in such a short amount of time that he "batched" his ban requests within minutes of each other.
Does anyone think this is normal? Maybe, just maybe, this guy is a massive dickwad? And wasting time digging through disengenuous accusations would piss anyone off.
As much as I hate to agree with Smoothcunt on anything, "most people who post ban requests are insufferable manchildren who probably deserved to be TK'd" is accurate. Well, not most probably, but some for sure.

I believe you must not have read the kittiya thread and Erasmus's post. Nothing "Playful" about that kind of shit talking. You obviously don't read the strat section much or the "playful" attitude wouldn't be mentioned.

Lets try it then. Remove ban thread posting for lets say 1 week. Wonder what will happen.

Anders, on one hand you are right. Griefing should be punished, and whoever looks away supports it.

But on the other hand regular reporting of minor offenses can get perceived as snitching. And no one likes snitches. You should always ask yourself, if the offense is worth an own ban thread, if the expected punishment is worth an own ban thread, and perhaps if there is a way you can improve the system we have (the last point is directed to everybody).

Sure as hell it is difficult or even impossible to tell what happened, because griefing can happen on accident or on purpose, and the only way to find out what the reason was is looking into somebody's head. Which nobody can. Except Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Mengele and the like perhaps.

So perhaps a system with witnesses could help, or reducing the "M"-report kick value from 5 to 3. And some kind of invisible language filter, which determines the "cursing percentage" of a person, only visible by an admin. Including words like "mother" and so on. It's definitely nothing objective, as someone can just have a crude way of joking in chat ("Come on, lads! Let's drive those fuckers back to their dirty whores of mothers!" in teamchat is more of role playing than offending), but it could help the admins judging cases. And all teamattacks could get recorded, not only the reported ones. That way you could recognize trouble makers better. Although you should always keep in mind that those systems are still far away from safe. Someone who just swings more carelessly than other is not neccessarily a griefer. Although I think if he gets punished for griefing, there's not a lot wrong done to him (you could say not caring and teamhitting is some kind of unpersonal griefing).

All I want to say, Anders, is that I'd like you to understand that people (me included) don't like snitches. And ban requests sound like snitching ofen enough.

Welcome to the internet, please leave your sanity at the door.

I don't know exactly what you mean.

On one hand I think that the constant reporting is right, to keep the servers playable. On the other hand I think it's useless, and the missing effects renders the reports to snitching. I don't know. Actually I would prefer to stay without opinion in this case, if I think about it properly  :?

I'm sniping those two spots so you can see your own contradiction.

There wouldn't be a problem if people weren't asshats. Admins aren't always on, people ruin other people's fun, thereby we have ban threads. But, this isn't limited to ban trolling and in game trolling of players for that. Strat section itself is a raging beast of it. I use the ban thread's as the example because it's fairly obvious in most instances and easily seen. Strat, on the other hand, is a select few(those who get muted, generally) and they lay into the insults harshly.

Note that I said "sound like snitching". I didn't say everyone who is making a ban request is snitching. The line is flowing, and often enough you must prevent yourself of just looking down to something and calling it snitching. At least for me, for various reasons. It just happens easily to declare something as snitching.

I just went through the topics you made, and there are even topics where you reported people who forced you to press M by QML'ing you. This is where I'd say that "keeping the servers clean" turns to snitching. If somebody is actively griefing it is perfectly okay to get him banned. But I don't know why you had to make a topic, just to expect somebody to say "Oh you!" to Ganner with a raised finger. With those posts the entire ban request forum is held up to ridicule, and the really important and worthy ban threads disappear between the whining ones.

And never forget that most people know about people who have the tendency to report a lot, and thus know exactly who is a rewarding target for trolling. (No, trolls won't be deterred by the knowledge of being reported, rather the opposite).
