i often hear people bitching that dismounted cav can fight very well on foot.
what do these people think of introducing above proficiency, which dictates the effectiveness of a weapon when mounted.
this way, a wpf split has to be done and gimps cav a bit more. yay. yay?
:/
-
Would it be a "mounted" generic wpf or one different for each kind of weapon? If it is the second one, it could include horse archery and be a direct mounted ranged buff.
-
maybe wpf for riding????
-
If you can aim very well with a bow on a horse, you can also aim while walking.
Maybe split it up, but when you put wpf in mounted combat, you gain 50% (random number) in unmounted combat as well?
Will be a slight nerf to cav on foot.
-
I suggested this a while ago, it got ignored tho :(
+1

Hmm dunno really... Requires a free respec for everyone with riding skill, so most likely not realistically possible.
-
Subtle cav buff I see. :D
It'd be interesting to say the least. Cav would be stronger or the same but worse when their horse dies. Might see an increase in armored horses over coursers though.
-
its not something i would want to see, as i like being pure polearmer, its just something that came to my mind when i was reading the daily cav whine and spontaneously compared us to archers, who have to sacrifice PS for PD and melee wpf for bow wpf, whilst we can ride a horse and only have to sacrifice sp, not wpfpts.
again: i would hate to see it, but i think its worth a discussion.
-
Well what would be worth a discussion is, how we could give archers some of their melee ability back. It's not that much about melee wpf but when I made my archer alt I just couldn't get more than 3 powerstrike. I would have sacrificed too much if I took any points from athletics, power draw or WM (really important to archers) so I sacrificed all IF points instead.
Archers could make a decent hybrid if they only got some powerstrike to the build. It would courage people to get a 1 slot melee weapon more often instead of one extra stack of arrows. In hands of a skilled player wpf doesn't matter that much in the end. A decent compromise I think.

This would absolutely ruin any non-joustinglanceagiwhorearabian cav who never die in the first place, yet get tons of kills.

It is perfectly viable to go hybrid archer. You are at a bit of a disadvantage, but do you really want to be a master in all trades?
Currently 15/21 archer/shielder hybrid, probably one of the most skill requiring hybrids except for mounted ranged (PD, PS, Shield, Athl, WM), and doing completely fine. Carl Hans comes to mind with his archer/2her, but not many others because of the min-maxer we all bring inside... If I have a bow and high athletics (as going over 18 STR has more disadvantages than advantages imo), why would I turn and fight if I can just outrun you and then shoot at you without you having any chance of striking back?
And idea would be to buff high str archery, this would make them less capable to run.

I'm a cav/footman and I support this notion.

Correction, you are a LHB cav who somehow sees an opportunity here

What kind of an opportunity? I would be struck the hardest really. I'm extremely effective even when dehorsed due to my LHB and 7 ATH.

I don't know yet but you are planning something evil I know it!

just nerf lances gawd
every other cav class is pretty difficult/weak and often leaves you very vulnerable to retaliation and simply don't need a class design overhaul
lancers on fast/maneuverable horses spamming couches and getting 1 shot kills with just thrusts all round long while rocking a bec or poleaxe on their back are the imbalanced ones

Skilled 1h cav can easily pare lancers in score and effectiveness, 2 skilled HA can turn the tide of an charged infantry formation, HxB are the thorn in anyones foot. I rly believe you are a bit too stubborn in your view, maybe even opportunistic.
Furthermore personal experience taught me that "easymode lancing" as in running through enemy flocks with a couched lance time and time again is a lot more effective in NA than in EU. Although I am aware that its partly due to my high ping, it also seems to have other reasons.
and the last part of your post is just what I wan to discuss here.

Make the heavy lance be a 3 slot weapon
BAM
Now they can't be 1hand/shielders or top tier polearms + lancers. The heavy lance is very comparable to a pike, except usually doing way more damage every round, so a similar 3 slot penalty would be consistent and tone down the power of cookie cutter lancer/infantry builds spawning with all they need.
No need to grief a ton of classes that are relatively weak in comparison to the heavy lancer/melee hybrid. Tweak "cav" with a scalpel not a butcher's knife to anyone with riding skill.
Pretty much any melee class has a good chance against 1hand or 2hand cav, no one except long spears or pikes can typically take on a lancer. The lances with insta kill couch abilities, shield busting, and being such effective anti cav/anti all infantry weapons that do insane damage should be adjusted first.
Horse archers and horse xbows have pretty shitty builds to begin with, getting athletics or spare WPF on them is a luxury and shouldn't be punished more.
