Well lets pretned we take this idea seriuosly shall we? :)
Lets get some stats down first
hit points 200
body armor 100
requirement 8
horse speed 20
horse maneuver 18
horse charge 55
Price about 200,000 gold

Well sure but you're only gonna be able to use ranged from it.
So it'd get abused by my mounted xbow character a lot
Also, we can't add horse trample (I think) so you'd have a head on collision with no damage to the horse. You'd be out paced by everything, including some infantry. You'd fall 20ft when the thing died and take no damage.
Everyone would aim for you because you're so freaking big
So no :)
But I'm all for camels, they'd be nice :)

It's a big, slow target. Your mighty elephant would go down in seconds.

Baah, i wouldnt make it as slow as infantry, i think it should be slightly faster than those agi people with light armor and 15 athletics. Of course it shouldnt be very manuverable though. Also, you are right about it being a primary target, but if we say that the hp could be even more than 200, perhapse 300-350, then it would be a waste of time to spend all your little pathetic arrows on it unless it really was the only exposed target.

To kill it/its rider, people would have to swarm it with pikes and use ranged weapons for killing the rider  :).

Someone in the old forum had made decent looking elephant models too. Look at that 100 armour, it won't go down fast. Arrows would most likely bounce off too.

Exactly, and i dont see how it would be unbalanced honestly, a slow huge mount which can easily be swarmed if the opposing team arent noobs. On the other hand, if it received some support by its allied cav players it could prove to be quite dangerous.

I like the idea, but lower the cost a little bit...maybe 80,000 gold so that you can start bringing these things out when you think your team has the upper hand but not that expensive in which you go bankrupt when you lose one or two rounds.

Why am i a troll? I like Elephants and think that camels are stupid. Imagine how bad the ride would be id like to see a camel archer trying to aim in real life its just stupid. Elephants on the other hand are huge, powerful, cool, faster than you would think and very hard to kill. Maybe an armored elephant would be a better idea like in age of empires rise of Rome expansion pack.

Elephants would be easier to balance since there is no "scare horse by bad smell." if camels were added (and historically balanced) they'd just be slow targets. Honestly not quite sure what there specialty would be if they were added unless they were low tier. Whoever made those stats for elephants were right on IMO. Maybe a little cheaper though.

Sure it sounds OP, but it would have a movement speed of like... 24? My Ethiopian build can run faster than that, bear in mind that he IS a track super-star/legend.

And elephants would not be slow targets?? Buying an elephant (however good the stats) would be suicide, you would be a target for everyone on the enemy team. Slow and big, they would just shoot you down with
arrows/bolts/javs.

Racing camels can run up to 40mph (lol).

But more seriously, camels have been used for war and would probably be a much more likely foe than elephants. Although, age of empires elephants were sweet.

P.S I only clicked -1 once, you can only do so once per 24 hours. Some others must not of agreed with you either.

this game does not account for stamina. On topic though many weapons would be very impractical to use from elephant for example even a hafted blade would have difficulties reaching a target from astride an elephant so that also should be accounted into balance.

I imagine that elephants would be used to crush infantry ranks and break formations possibly in teams they would not appear often but would be extremely difficult to kill. I am unable to imagine that they would be unarmored either.

This could add some fun. I vote yes. But How will the elephants be used?

- Trampling infantry (increased bump damages)?
- Charging with their tusks?
- Trumpetting wildly and eating peanuts?

Because I can hardly imagine a rider couching his lance or swinging his cavalry scimitar from left to right from an elephant. Maybe they could be like a mobile platform with archers and crossbowmen on it, which means being able to carry several persons... maybe hard to code.

for the camel i think it should be better armored than a horse but slower(just like in RL) and ofcourse some lower tier camels wouldn't have armor. also the feet of a camel are longer than those of a horse so it would be harder to hit someone from foot, and the head also is higher than that of a horse so you can't really pike someone of the camel like you can with a horse. do you sit on the bump, in fornt of the bump or behind the bump on the camels back? because if you sit in front of the bump it would also protect you a bit in your back. this also means that onehander from camel would work less good than form a horse but lances would work better. you would also swing more around from a camels back than form a horse so more difficult to hit woth arrows, bolts and throwing weapons.
(how do i know so much about the camels body? i took one in the but last summer :P)

about the elephants i think they should be faster than everyone is saying because elephants can run 50km/h which is about 32m/h. ofcourse these elephants are armored, but also in a war spirit wich makes adrenaline and makes them faster. for the damage i think elephants should have a couching mode that puts their heads down and lets their tusks to the ground. this is probably hardcode but someone can give it a try if they want. if this is not possible(probably) i think they should have a good amount of charge damage so you can accually use that as a weapon. and not a dirty HA trick.

my questions are:
will a stab to the chest stop it(cuse cmon would it stop an elephant?)
and how will you get of the elephant?

notes:
for the camel i think a new animation is required for the swinging on a camel.
maybe to balance camels make a chance that they suddenly prance(for it is a stubern animal)

and btw i think if you wanna get on an elephant you have to climb a long way so if the rider on the elephant dies you can´t just get up it in mid-battle.

No obviously, the rider would look stupid as there is no elephant skeleton and youb sitting in the elephant, I remember this from some other mod where this was sugested but then shot down as it looks stupid.

There is a problem with the model bugging out wich can't be solved without editing the binaries, afaik, so not easy.
The other problem is of course making the burning pigs to counter them.

that won't be as overpowered(or underpowered) as the larger elephants. still i want both in and camels!

irl war elephants where very inpractical they where more dangerous for their own army.. they where used to show how important their own faction was but in war the elephants got scared and went sort of berserk and killed evryone :D
