I liked Kafein's best, and offer this Guthrie song as a testament to what the American spirit is meant to encompass, in my mind and heart. Lyrics to the song tackle the definition of liberty, individual rights and property ownership, and was actually quite subversive and controversial for it's time; the place Woody writes from is after experiencing the Dust Bowl of the 30's and seeing first hand the racism and classism at work in America.


The earth is good and plentiful, with enough for all. There's no reason why anyone should go without their basic needs met. What race, religion, nationality, gender, age, sexual preference, or even species we are give no excuse to marginalize or otherwise subjugate anyone. Bless America, yes, but bless all nations, and more to the point, bless the natural world free of political borders, and all who inhabit it, for we are all one extended family, and we all bear the duty of preserving our collective home for the generations to come.

Finally not some stupid bullshit american nationalism. Land of the Free and Brave? Riiight... How naive and blind has someone to be to actually believe that crap? Especially when it comes to the US of A.
3000 people died on 9/11... tragic. How many people died since then by the American Warmachine? Lying about the reason and the intentions going in in the first place. There's plenty of American history and creations for them to be proud of -- especially the music  :wink:

All countries pretty much have dreadful pasts (and current).

I don't think there aren't many Westerners that doesn't idolize a lot of America's past, personally I think that the Declaration of Independence is the single most greatest document ever written on Earth.
