Title: Games for elmuri
Post by: Elmuri on August 30, 2012, 11:29:59 am
cRPG has been boring lately, and I would like You to recommend be games. Single- or multiplayer.

I like for example RPGs (not MMORPGs), strategy games (not too hardcore), adventure/action (like Assassins Creeds and Arkham City) and point'n'clicks.

I don't like FPS-games, horror games (or any other scary games), sport games.

And please don't mention Fables. They suck.

Thank you

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 - awesome, still find some time to hop my bunny in these days
Princess maker 2 - you make a schedule for young girl and try to make her into princess (the game has like 70 endings or whatnot), i dare you to make a whore outta her!
I loved Quest for glory series, awesome adventures.
Rollercoaster tycoon - the first was the best, no discussions

and last but not least : Heroes of might and magic III (yeah, i dont like new series, too cartoonish, i loved the art and gameplay of this one the most)

Anw, if those are too old for ya, sorry, but i havent found anything as fun as these recently.

I play old games with a pleasure, thanks. I have played rollercoaster tycoon (not sure what of those) and lots of HoMM

Keep on going with suggestions!

Legend of Grimrock - a 1st person single player party-based dungeon-crawler. Gear, levels, puzzles, giant snails.

Osmos - A pretty rad indie game that's easy to lose time in; gets rather challenging as well.  I still haven't finished the last set of levels.

Quote from: Hemisphere Games
Enter the ambient world of Osmos: elegant, physics-based gameplay, dreamlike visuals, and a minimalist, electronic soundtrack.

Your objective is to grow by absorbing other motes. Propel yourself by ejecting matter behind you. But be wise: ejecting matter also shrinks you. Relax… good things come to those who wait.

Progress from serenely ambient levels into varied and challenging worlds. Confront attractors, repulsors and intelligent motes with similar abilities and goals as you.

Have Osmos on steam since forever, haven't finished it either, those last levels are hardcore

Gothic 1, 2 & 3, Risen 1 & 2, The Witcher 1 & 2, King Arthur: the role-playing wargame 1 & 2, Magicka, Two Worlds 2.

Gothic 1, 2 & 3

That's a crime to mention Gothic 1,2 & 3 in one sentence! Do not play Gothic 3!! 1 & 2 are far better, not even possible to describe that!

C&C 1 - 3, you cannot do anything wrong with those games. Though I really prefer the third part, Tiberian Sun (it's also free to download afaik).

Sims 1 & 2 (forget Sims 3!)

Cossacks: Art of War / Back to War / European Wars (theres a second part released since years, I just skipped that one)

Hitman: Blood Money, Hitman: Codename 47, Hitman 2: Silent Assasin  (I prefer Blood Money of those, game controls are best in that game)

Knights of Honor

Civ 3 / 4 / 5 (maybe you even prefer older parts :P)

any Sim City games

Star Wars games like Jedi Academy, KotOR I/II

Stronghold 1 / Crusader / 2

Thief 1 / 2 / 3 (careful with those, sometimes there are really scary situations!)

Torchlight (soon 2)

Winter Voices (check Steam)

Siege of Avalon (it has 6 chapters, afaik chapter 1 is free to download)

Ohh common, Gothic 3 wasnt that bad. Or im just saying it cause I played Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods expansion. Which was 5 times worse. Was so unfinished that you couldnt even finish the main guest without shitloads of patching. Thank god Jowood went bankrupt. They made some hardcore crap in their final  years.

Btw Miwiw, you mentioned Cossacks. Know any way to make em run on todays PCs? Cause sofar ive tried to run Cossacks in atleast 4 PCs. I never got it to run. :(

Shitload of quality games came out in year 2000.

Few months later Blade of Darkness came out and most people forgot about Rune.

I played and enjoyed both games. Blade of Darkness had better melee system (it was best melee combat until M&B/Demon Souls came out) but Rune had better level design and much more interesting story.

13th warrior came out a year before Rune and I was watching that movie a lot back then. I was so happy that I could finally play proper H&S game with viking background. It's true viking game, not bullshit like Skyrim.

Dark Souls is a mix of Blade of Darkness (melee combat and difficulty) and Rune (level/monster design) and Castlevania games.

That's a good question. I can try on my pc if you like. Win 7 Dual Core 64 Bit.

Afaik I played a Cossacks game on my laptop before (Win 7 i3 CPU 2,4 GHz 64bit) without any problems. Installed over steam.

I'm also having the retail version for all 3 Cossacks 1 games, so I can try that with those (no download yay!). I'll check this weekened. :)

Blades of Darkness looks awesome. I never noticed it before. I got super addicted by Rune around 2004 or something and then I played it non-stop until I found M&B in 2006.

I still like to play a bit of Rune once in a while though. I recently completed the campaign for like the third time.

Let me enlighten you, grasshopper. Fallout 2 is cool because it's a nonlinear, nonclassbased kickass postnuclear computer roleplaying game with a high replayabillity value. Fallout 2 allows you to play your character the way you want. If you want to play a goodie-two-shoes, you can. If you want to play an evil bastard, you can (Yes, you really can hit children in the groin with a sledgehammer). If you want to play a moron who can hardly talk because of his low intelligence, you can.

Yep Fallout 1 & 2 are classics. If you haven't played Planescape: Torment yet then thats something you should play at some point, if you like stories and can spend some time reading. One of the best games ever imo

I know JRPG's get some general negativity, but some of them have decent stories (but a ton of fighting too). FF7, FF9, FF10 etc. Just get an emulator and you can play them on your PC..ff7 has a pc version too (and 8, but I never really got into that one). Get an engine mod for 7 if you use the pc version and the use original PS sounds

Regarding adventures, I liked the Broken Sword series, and if you don't mind old graphics then get all the original Lucas Arts ones. The Telltale ones are OK, but I don't think episodic adventures are for me really. I like the old 2d style adventures. Theres some decent adventures around if you browse sites like AdventureGamers you will find plenty

For multiplayer, you could try GW2, League of Legends etc, Darkfall maybe (well wait for 2.0 then look into it). Fps games are kind of boring to me now. I picked up cs go which is alright I suppose. Can't stand modern popular fps games like cod..don't want Origin or any EA fps game tbh. So not much choice in terms of FPS's atm. Was hoping RO2 would spark my interest in FPS games again but that was very disappointing compared to Ostfront

It is okay, but the melee combat is only for polearm animation abusers and broken combat, beeing in a regiment makes it more fun though  :|

Monkey Island! There are even some of those games on steam. I loved part 3 most I think. Didn't play since ages...

that's the damn thing about onlinegames imo... easy to become addicted to those even if you know you really wanted to play something else as well... I often just forget about any offline games.

As a finn you should play Alan Wake. It's not that scary either and has a cool story and way of telling it.

Other than that *checks steam library*

Total War
Endless Space (easy to learn 4X strategy game)
Bioshock 1&2
Deus Ex
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Witcher

You never heard g2play are evil ?

no really they do resell old game keys

If you like strategy and managing, you should games from the X series. The latest is X3 Albion Prelude. Basically it's a space combat (all the way from dogfighting fighters to capital ship fleet command) game with everything a space empire building game would include, or the other way around. You can build stations for income or to produce the weapons and missiles you need, run transporter ships with escorts, board and capture other ships, develop a drug empire and defend it yourself. The closest comparison I can think of is "EvE online, but singleplayer".

Oh yeah, not sure if anyone's mentioned this one yet, but crusader kings 2 is a good strategy game. The combat isn't very In Depth, but its more of a civ- style Game that focuses more on other things like diplomat, government, etc.
