Title: Event: cRPG Olympics!
Post by: Christo on April 10, 2011, 11:47:32 pm: While playing around today, I saw a naked guy running around with a torch..

I was like: "Eureka! Olympics!"

So, what about an event where people could participate, to face some challenges?

It would bring something fun to the game, events bring the community together.

So, this is what I came up with so far:

Every type of "build" should have an event where they can join.

For an example, running, an obstacle course on foot, whatever.
These would be quite good for infantry.

And to the ranged part!
Throwing challenge! Who can throw the farthest?
Also an accuracy challenge where people have to hit a target from a distance.

Same could apply to Archers and Crossbowmen. The game already has targets, and I saw some can register difficulty, perhaps even distance?

And for the next one, Riders!

Obviously, a Jousting tournament, or Tourney for those who love medieval times, and chivalry.
Also, an obstacle course like in modern sports, you have to jump with your horse etc, player with best time wins.

Prizes.. well I can't find out a good one. I bet you guys can. :)

What do you think? These are very early ideas of mine, they still need polishing.

Yes, I know what you guys and girls think: That there are some people, who excel at something more, than others.
I have a simple solution for that: Only, I mean ONLY participate in an event you're good at! Problem solved.

I suggest a course like a modern barrel racing course, but longer, so that both fast horses and maneuverable ones can compete together. Put it with the jumps, maybe a swim and even a gauntlet where 2 people try to hit horse and rider with a wardart while he tries to dodge and complete the course in a good time.

One or two pillars for cover may be nice along the way too :wink: Perhaps it should be a nearly unwinnable course, with the victor decided based on who gets the furthest? I dunno, cRPG tournaments are a new thing to me.

For bowmen I suggest three arrows apiece doing precise shooting at super long range and aiming for a moving targets at close range.

For 2h some naked duals would be good. This may do well for all the hand-to-hand classes.

Can you add in an accuracy competition for javelins and axes. Maybe a 100 foot throw with a slanted target? Also, my thoughts on the gauntlet (for cavalry) : A long straight run, with some obstacles to dodge and fences/logs to jump. The 2 "Defenders" will be on elevated platforms above the course, 1 at the first 1/4, second at 3/4 each have one stack of darts (more visible than other low tier weapons), which they try to land in the running dodging horse. Subtract 1 second from the course time for each dart stuck in the horse, with a DQ for a dead one. I'm sure there are enough horse haters to get plenty of volunteers for this one :D.

Some considerations:
- is it possible for one character to throw a javalin further than another? Perhaps we should just have long-distance accuracy competitions.
- bow and arrow competitions should be done with the most basic gear only
- crossbow should also use simple gear
- and the torch relay should have some sort of obstacle course in it too so it's not just athletics

Post by: Whalen207 on April 12, 2011, 03:59:18 am: The problem with the gauntlet is it requires an obstacle course. Such things take up alot of space. That space is valuable, laggy, and cannot be used for anything else.

Also throwing weapons are too inaccurate for a measurable test of accuracy. They can be thrown at different distances based on Power Throw and the angle of the toss. I tested, and a good 35 degree angle seems to get nominal range.

You definitely need a relay race where the competitors run with a hammer, drop it, the other person has to pick it up and run, then drop it and the third person runs. Would be epic. You'll also need security for all the douche bags trying to ruin events.

First, we'll need some marshals and plenty of contestants. Just post in this topic if you're interested.
Marshals should have a fairly good connection and be able to work with people. Each marshal will "claim" an event (You can create your own event too, if you can get contestants). Some larger events will have multiple marshals. Also, we're going to need a couple of rotating cameramen. 30 fps filming a 480p video on high quality is sufficient.
If we really get going I might ask nditions to loan me a room in the TeamSpeak.
Secondly, here are the possible events so far.

EVENTS:
- Obstacle Course
- 100m Dash
- Baton (Torch) Relay*
- The Gauntlet**
- Wood Chopping^
- Distance Throw
- Arrow/Xbow Accuracy Contest^*
- The Joust
- Free Joust^^
- Fencing Tourney
- Boxing
- Interclan Skirmish

I would like to organize one of the following, or these in an order:

Running,
Jousting,
Throwing Distance competition.
Horse Race.

I'm willing to do any of these if you want.

Post by: no_rules_just_play on September 13, 2012, 02:04:22 pm: hello guys, im no_rules_just_play_HRE and me and some other guys from HRE and fallen are in charge of a weekly thursday event with the 2 clans. i was looking for some nice ideas for olympics and found this thread. we also tought about things like racing with siegetowers, zombie mode and another game wich is too hard to explain but can be played in the main arena. i was wondering if you could get a bigger arena so we can use it for the siege tower race. i could ask our leaders to lend you the fallen and hre training server if you could provide us the map. hope you can help us and i'm also willing to help with your project if you need me. oh and btw the arena should also be bigger for another reason: gaunglet on horseback.

Or team events to see how many cav they can dehorse.

Or a team shield wall brawl, two teams on a bridge first team to knock the others off wins. (Shields, kicks and fists only)
