Should rain's effects on game mechanics be removed?
If the effects are there for "realism" it seems a bit out of place considering realism is not the primary balancing factor in other things in cRPG.
As far as balancing goes, it slows everyone down, but it affects those with more AGI and athletics more than people with high STR and low athletics - not to mention it is bad more ranged users.
So to me it seems like an unnecessary factor of imbalance.
Love rain as an atmospheric element though - just not sure the effects on mechanics are needed.

Anyhow thought I'd bring this up. Not a huge deal, but not sure what it offers.
Interested to see how people vote/what they think.

Just make it rain less.
/thread.
-
Just remove the penalties but keep the rain.
-
It does rain a stupid amount. I wouldn't mind that so much if the effects weren't a pain. Balancing by weather effects seems daft, particularly as crpg has never been overly concerned with realism.
-
Stop insulting the poor rain... :?
If to remove anything, let it be night time. Completely useless, makes you harder to block. Cheers to all the shielders.

My point exactly.

This and it screws me over a ton. Helps cav and heavy armored people more.

What did you say? I was watching your signature.

reduce ranged damage with rain by 100%
-
buff rain penalties asap
ranged and agi whores can go play cod
-
yes, you are right with this. As cool as rain effects sounds on paper everyone is simply annoyed when its raining and hopes it stops on the next map.

This is either trolling or too many muscles constricting blood flow to the head.

You have city maps good for ranged, open maps good for cav.
You have sand storms so cav doesnt see where they r going, night where inf has trouble seeing the direction of a hit, and you have rain, where ranged gets nerfed.
Each map/ wheater type has its advantages and nerfs. I think rain fits in pretty well on both realism and game balance.

All classes have rain penalties and makes a relatively slow game pace even slower.
This is probably a good idea in a single player strategy game but not in a multiplayer action game, I personally get annoyed every time it rains where if it was only for atmosphere I would enjoy it.

Strength builds are less affected by rain penalty than agility builds because speed reduction is percentage based. Make it linear and you'll fix str-agi balance.

No that wouldn't fix anything.
See str chars barely see the difference and agi chars heavily relying on athletics and footwork need 100% of their speed to have any chances vs str builds.
Remove rain effects, leave rain particles.

This is what I am proposing, yes.

Yeeees remööööve effects ! Or make tincans slower on sunny/hot weather :P
-
I've voted "No". Even though I hate it. Rain should be kept but be something rare. Remove it from strat battles only.
-
I wouldn't mind it as much if weather would only change with map change, so everyone has the same visual effect, and you can actually be sure that the weather you see is what's actually happening.
If that's not possible, just make it visual only.
-
Remove rain already. It makes the game so damn slow it becomes unplayable almost.

I felt like this was made much later than 2012. This thread is a sad reminder how we brought this on ourselves for those who voted no.

It's like we are fighting in England at night all the fucking time rains and it's fucking dark...
Don't remove rain effects change the climate instead. Less rain, less night, less fog, less martian sandstorm, less snow = Less cry.
