Title: MMOcRPG
Post by: IRunUDie on April 03, 2011, 10:41:40 pm
I have been thinking about this for queit awhile now and that is having a server with a very high slot rate of say up to 2000 players which is connected to the databass, I was thinking it would be cool if you could create your own equipment.

If you could find mateirals, hunt monsters, sow cloth for clothes, blacksmith for armour, chop trees for wood to create your own bows.. I have alot more ideas as too what this server could hold but I would like to hear what other people come up with.

There is something called Rigale mod that does all that for single player, and persistant world for multiplayer.

I think bringing that in as a MOD for cRPG would be good though, I know the coding would be near impossible but it could be done and it is an open idea too add so many more things.

Like having your own land where u can create furniture for your castle and get people to work for you, Like I said there are sooo many ideas that could be added to a 2000 slot server.

Its not the same as Strat! Strat is 2D you fight in 3D. You dont get to create items and look for materials to create the items, You wouldnt be able to interact with other people and I dont know like buy stuff from them there, Have trading stalls I could go on for ages with ideas but I cant be bothered :L

The maximum number of players for a Warband server is 64. The maximum number of players that can achieved by hacking the server files is 250.

Yeah, it would be nice to see Strat evolving into what you've described. I would really enjoy it.

What specs do you need for a dedi to run 250? I presume it would need to be pretty decent but been talking about getting a dedi and wouldnt mind getting a large server, eu1 used to be about 200 right?

Not sure about the exact numbers, but pretty high specs (I'd say i7 970 or better, a couple GB RAM per server, 100 Mbit/s connection). Since the server is not multithreaded, you can run 3-5 servers on a single machine (depending on the # of CPU cores).

On a giant map? Say 3x the size of the main PWmod maps? That'd be really cool. I'd take up my old role as a rogue and ambush unweary merchants in a dark forest.

I don't even want to think about the CPU usage of such a giant map..
(PWmod caused heavy lags to me when I tried it once)

Would melt my processor probably. xD

pw mod with crpg playerbase could be good i suppose

well there wouldnt be 1 huge map but more multiple smaller ones, each of them being run on a different server. and by reaching the edge of a map you could login to another server. this way you could keep hundreds of players online.

having hundreds of players on 1 super strong server at the same time is impossible because requirements are growing exponentially with player count. but having hundreds of players at the same time on multiple servers in different (yet close) map locations is very possible.

btw i've been waiting for a game like m&b to be mmorpg since i did read about ultima online for the 1st time...

btw strategus is good, its not good, its awesome. still it has its limits in playerbase. but something like this (mmorpg) could trully unleash the true capacity of m&b. in the begining i thought that strategus is bs and never can be moded, now i think even mmorpg could be done.

I tried to lobby to TW to add a module system function that would allow me to send a player to another server. I begged em over and over again, actually. It was always declined, for whatever reason. (I guess they didn't like the idea of a fan-made mmorpg, which could indicate that they are working on a MMO game themselves)

I think they should provide chadz anything he wants cos he allow them to earn lot of money thanks to CRPG and he earns nothing himself. I'm wondering why they didn't offer you a full time job allready ! I know they are not a huge studio like Blizzard but still they should find a place for you.

Aye, maybe... Good MMO means a lot of money. If I were "TW" I wouldn't like some crazy student to lick the best what M&B can offer (MMO and money) while leaving the scraps for others. If i were in their coat, I'd rather suck you into TW team, giving you everything you desire for making some awesome mod that could be sold separately (while keeping the profit of course) :o)
