Hi,
I've been playing CRPG for about 3 months now, currently 2nd gen on my main. I Keep reading about all these strat battles, guilds, fiefs, mercs, etc. Thought I'd give strat a try. Opened up the window for it and ....
1. What is going on?
2. Does this work in Google Chrome? / Do I need to switch to Internet Explorer?
3. Any advice for a strat newb? Any part of the map I should head to, etc.?
4. Does anyone ever chat on mumble / vent, etc. for battles? It would be fun to converse w/ my fellow CRPGrs.
Opinions, comments, insults?

Strat is mostly about clans or groups of people, you won't be doing much totally alone. I would advise you to find an active clan and youll be able to join some nice battles. You could of course also merc for clans (for that you should be a high level, 30+ with a solid build, usually not a thrower).
I would use Firefox, well actually I never used anything else.
If you are from EU stay in the southern area (http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4029/u32p3p1d2.jpg). The map is divided into EU and NA, that means battles in the EU area are fought on EU servers, NA battles on NA server.
In a battle usually TS is used.

Thanks Miwiw. I will give it a try w/ Firefox and I will DL TS. Also I will try to join a clan. Unfortunately my main IS a thrower / 2H build (21/12). I understand that when fighting as a merc you can't use your own CRPG equipment, so maybe it would be better to have a more generic build, eg pure 2H or pure shiedler? I may make a shielder for my next gen.
-
Oh, don't change your build just because of that. I actually meant dedicated throwers without any other weapon skill. But you can also use your 2handed weapon. ;)
Also I wouldn't join a clan just because of that. There need to be guys you like. :)

Cool. I will head over to the NA side of the map because I'm 'Merican.

Okay, so I was accepted for a battle.
The time of the battle, apparently, is Wednesday at 21:49 CRPG is telling me that it's now 23 o'clock. Ok. Is that the CRPG server time? If so, is it 23 o'clock Tuesday?
I'm just confused by the server time system. Can someone enlighten me.

fix your local time offset so its the same like server time
-
Thanks. I think I've fixed it. I missed like all the battles I signed up for though. Apologies.

If you think u cant make a battle, its best to uncheck yourself.
If worst comes to worst, people almost always do a roll call on TS and remove people who arent there and accept other players.
-
Cool. Also, do you know what TS channel people to enter for Strategus battles?
-
That depends on the battle and side. There are no official TS channels for c-rpg, so the groups need to get one of their own/share one. TS info is usually not too hard to find. If you get accepted to the battle, then when you click on the battle there will be a briefing tab (or something, don't remember exactly what it's called.) Clans often use that to give out TS info/when you need to be online for roll-call.
-
Cool thanks for advice everyone. I successfully joined a strat battle yesterday as a mercenary.
It was me and one other guy, and the other team didn't show up so after 30 seconds it goes "you win! 6,030 xp!"
All in all I'd say it was a pretty badass experience and I can't wait for my next battle.
Also the other guy in the battle was from Fallen and asked me to pledge join his frat clan. They seem pretty cool so I signed up on their website and on the CRPG clan joiner thing, but nobody from Fallen was actually playing. Are they mainly in EU?
-
Fallen are both, but try to get on their TS in the afternoon/earlyevening and meet their EU people, they can probably tell u more than we can.
-
Cool, I will do that. Also, I've been recruiting for 2 days and I've got a little band of soldiers now. I wonder what gear I should buy for them. If I were recruiting mercenaries, do you think I would be able to get archers to join? I think it'd be fun to have an archer army.
-
hmmm, there are always archers out there, so should be possible, but if it will work against an decent opponent, i doubt it ^^
better make an more balanced army, but yeah u can ask some people on TS about that stuff, its probably simpler to explain in there.
-
Excellent. I've got an army now equipped with shields, 1H, and armor. Time to raid, pillage and burn. Prepare yourself Calradia.
-
Gl, but if u see yellow fiefs, dont go there, we don't treat them bandits kindly over here

Question 1: So I hear that I have to pay upkeep for my army once it exceeds 49 troops. Does anyone know exactly how this works (how much upkeep/ troop/ hour)?
Question 2: If I get in a battle and win, but some of my troops die, does the equipment they spawned w/ go away too?
Question 3: How's it going everybody?
Question 4: I'm in Curaw and I really want to attack something. Any suggestions? Should I only attack other neutral (white text) players and villages?

Ah, sorry. I Found the answer to question 1 here http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,18362.0.html.

If your interested in making some easy money head up to Fisdnar. We are paying good rates on goods crafted and we can guide you through the trade system.
PM me if your interested.

So if I make some straw hats and leather gloves and bring them over there, you will buy them from me for more than it cost me to make them?

yes, but u can still recover a bit by looting them weps in the end of battle.

He meant trade goods, though they probably would buy some heirloomed straw hats if you had any. Every fief has a unique trade good so for example in Fisdnar it's northern perch and in Curaw it's embroidered hats. You can make one trade good every hour and it costs half the good price you'll see in the part of the strategus action menu that lists the local tax/visiting fee/etc.
To make one you have to be in a fief then go to Craft Items, click select and then choose the trade good at the top of the list. An orange message will pop up saying "Crafting Set" then just click on start. Different types of fiefs are better for doing certain things. Castles have the highest chance (efficiency) for recruiting a troop every hour, villages are best for making trade goods or gear and towns are mediocre at both.
Then to make gold off your trade goods you need to take them to another fief, the higher good price in your selling location the better because that would be the price they're sold for. The further away you take your trade goods from the place where you made them, the bigger distance bonus you'll get too but there's more risk involved moving goods long distance because you could get attacked by other players in the middle of the night. :) In Fisdnar you can make trade goods and they'll pay you gold for them so you don't have to bother with the time/risk involved in transporting them yourself, pm Frank for details if you're interested.

Thank you, this is heprfur information.
Up to now I've been grinding gold through CRPG and crafting weapons and armor to make my warband a little saltier, but I spose we'll need to get into crafting and trading in order to make the real money.
BTW, I noticed that I can only craft gear that my main already owns in CRPG, but I can't craft all of it: only certain items. Will this menu of craftable gear change depending on the village or town I'm in?
In other news, I spectated a siege last night and it was very instructive. It was Kutt (3,000 tickets) Vs. the neutral town of Curaw (7,000 tickets) which I happen to be in right now actually. Kutt was dominating in the early rounds with masterworked gear and clever strategy. They almost capped the final flags, but they couldn't close the deal before they ran out of the superior gear and attrition started to take its toll. Curaw rallied and pushed them back from the walls. By the end of the battle Kutt troops were all naked and scavenging weapons. Also, the comp was able to hire about 2x more mercenaries than Kutt, and I think having more spawnable units made a difference at the end. I don't know actually how that works though...
I frapsed several segments of the battle to show my friend who is starting Strat w/ me. Maybe I will post it on Youtube.

It's the same list in every fief and that's the gear you had equipped when you got a "All thine hard work has paid off" message that gives you smithing skill points. It's going to change in the near future but here's what chadz said about it:
you only get it when you are alive,
trigger happens every 300 seconds,
your win chance is <current-multi (1-5)>:1000
i'm only stating this now because it's gonna be gone soon anyway :P
So if you have the same gear equipped all the time and stay alive pretty soon you'll be able to arm up more troops in strategus for less gold. Every time you get the ATHW message you get a few points and if you don't have something equipped that you already have points in, you'll lose one point.

No problem, yeah Strategus has a FAQ, changelog and for dummies thread but it really needs just one wiki or tutorial page that's regularly updated with all the basics. Otherwise people have to learn everything word of mouth so it's kind of confusing at first. I just learned how to put weapons back in a weapon rack the other day.
Ha, I was throwing ladders for the attackers during that siege last night and got some crazy amounts of xp, looking forward to seeing that video! :) Here's some pics I took: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,24728.msg540349.html#msg540349 (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,24728.msg540349.html#msg540349)
