play using cheaper gear and you will slowly start gaining gold.

That seems to be an issue with people lately.

What do you wear, and what does the website say your "maximum upkeep" is? It shouldn't be anywhere close to 10,000 gold unless you're using full plated chargers in full plate gear with a giant two handed sword with a nuclear missile strapped to your back.

Ignore the first two responses they don't understand what you're talking about.  Once you reach level 25 or 26 (it might even be lower) or once you have over 10,000 gold you start paying upkeep.  It doesn't matter what gear you use now, it's all subject to 4% chance of being repaired for 7% of the total cost (for every minute you're alive).

ITT: talk bout people you're not sure about.

He rides on a rouncey with black lammelar with a heavy/regular lance. I actually played with him on the server yesterday. What do you know about him ?

I'm saying you're mistaking what he is saying...he's saying he didn't have to pay repairs until he had over 10,000 gold, not that his total upkeep could be 10,000 gold...

Yes, either you accumulate over 10,000 gold at once, or you hit a certain level in your 20s, and then you start paying upkeep.  If you hit the level (which you did if you're at 26) then it doesn't matter how much total money you have.

The last part is actually wrong, it doesn't matter if you're alive or not. For every tick there is a chance for your items to break.

Sell your loompoint when you retire. Won't have to worry about upkeep for another 1000 hours.

yeah that might be true, but i thought it was only if you're alive, and the tradeoff is that you can't get chadztext "all thine hard work has payeth off" if your dead.

Well, the weird thing is that I was talking to Snack yesterday in-game and he was telling me that his courser was breaking for about 2000 gold. That's already strange, since the courser shouldn't be more than about 1388 in repairs.

 so when i retire i should give all my gold to an alt to keep my main from paying repair before lvl 25 right ?

No, AFAIK, that only applies to your first generation (and I think it's only for your main, I'm pretty sure the alt I made was paying upkeep right away, but I didn't pay attention).

Only when they are above Gen 1.

I played about 3 alts from scratch in the last week, none of them had to pay upkeep before they reached level 26 OR had above 10 k gold.

No wai. My alt had to pay upkeep and he's level 20 gen1

Wow, alts most definitely DO pay upkeep, jeez guys.  If they didn't, I'd ONLY play my alts, I never do strategus anyways.
