Hey there.
Lately I was going to apply Heavy Hooves to my Warband to combat ninja horses phenomenon, unfortunately it turns out it's for native sounds only and if you would be planning to use it with More Metal sounds there's a lot of fiddling to do. So I just decided that I'll just make a somewhat upgraded version instead. And will share it with you, since sometimes I'm a nice person.
This is for More Metals Sounds. If you don't have it (why wouldn't you I do not know, it's so good) use Heavy Hooves (http://www.mbrepository.com/file.php?id=2072).
The purpose of this minimod is to enhance horses loudness, so you can actually hear cavalry charging. I know, right? Insanity!
How to use this:
1. Backup your Modules/cRPG/sounds.
2. Copy all sounds to Modules/cRPG/sounds, overwrite.
Download:
Now, there are two versions of this, first one is completely usable even for cavalry players, it just makes horses some decibels louder.
The other one is, well... much louder.
Standard edition (http://www.mediafire.com/?3dwwbaz1kou0ruo)
Deluxe PREPARE TO GO DEAF edition (http://www.mediafire.com/?sov8o4n3b7kz3cn)
Reccomending the normal version, by the way.

I recall orignally you could put this in the 'native' sounds and it would work for all mods, wondering if this has been over-riden by WSE?
-
Personally I think silent infantry is a bigger problem than cavalry which you can hear loud and clear already.
-
Thanks, gonna try the normal version out later.
-
The sounds are pretty distorted even on the normal ver.
-
Now, all we need are armors doing actual noise.
I want to hear clings and clangs when someone in heavy armor runs behind me.
As it is now, I hear absolutely nothing then I get one hit killed because tincans have mastered ninjutsu and the art of disappearing.
-
The only horse fast enough to kill you before you can hear it coming is the courser. Its speed is the problem not the loudness of the hooves.

You are sort of not mentioning a few things about the horse hooves sounds:
The positional sound is 'ok' - if you are wearing headphones (and you might hear footsteps too).
-sounds can get buried/masked by other sounds.
- sounds might not get played due to packet loss/sound card channels.
Many areas of the map are silent, i.e. do not produce the hooves sounds.
-
Also, when coming at you from behind, horses make little to no noise for whatever crazy reason.

Not if you don't run on launcher :d

Well, you kinda cant hear them loud and clear, hence the OP made this mod

Generally speaking boosting footstep sounds is doable, the problem is that a) footsteps are really quiet so it would be terribly distorted b) you'd be hearing it all the time while you're moving.

I don't want footsteps to be louder as much as I want the actual armors doing noses. The light/cloth armor doing less noise than mailchains banging on plate and shit.

Loving this so far as an anti-cav hoplite. Thanks a bunch!

That is my personal opinion, duh.
-
Is the normal version's volume the same as Heavy Hooves? Because, when I tried HH, hooves were annoyingly loud.

Does chambering still make the same noise as regular blocking? I like to have a different sound when someone chambers, so thats why.
