18 - 21

or

18- 24 for extra accuracy, but you'll only have 3 extra points to spend on attributes at level 30.

...imo just use a rus bow.

18/24 is proven awesome.  I do nearly as much damage as I did 27/15, since the wpf penalties are so drastic with high power draw.  It was the difference between 60 and 70 damage on an unarmored target I think.  If you dig up the formula it'll help you out, but you still shoot lightning bolts with 6 PD.

18/21 is rad too if you must have your athletics.  Agility alone helps your movement speed though.

*edit* rus bow is better.  If the rus bow didn't exist, the longbow would be considered amazing.  But I'm sorry, it does exist, and is 9 speed faster.

Rus bow is also more accurate, very noticeably. Longbow needs a rework IMO, making it 1slot, or 1slot unsheathable, I dunno cause currently its like bastard sword: lovely to look at, but pointless since there are MUCH better weapons filing same roll for same price/cheaper

i was just thinking of the few people i knew who used the longbow. and when i went up against them as a polearmer with med/hvy armor they generally 2 shot me.... no headshots...

well, if you can be bothered to level 33, then go 21/21, thats a nice longbow build, or 18/21 with all the stats (Powerstrike, ironflesh, athletics, powerdraw, weapon master) and a blunt 1 slot.

she changed from the heavy PD build to an 18 str rest agi build. Goal was 18-27 if I recall correctly. Did much better with that. Makes it much much more accurate.

Then uumdi also did 18-24 and topped scoreboards with a longbow too, totally boss. But would've been even better with a rus bow.
But it wasn't fun for him so he stopped being an archer.

Longbow needs a slight accuracy buff + 1 or 2 point, and maybe +1 in shot speed. It'd balance it out and make it have a real role in game without altering it much.

Yep, personaly Im more successful with an unloomed horbow, than with my mw longbow.

Same for me But noone loves archers. We can't hope on a little buff. And its funny how UP Long Bow is compared to other bows and still its so expensive.

Martyr, do not try to go for high PD it might seem like a good idea but it is more frustrating than it is succesful in my opinion. Play to your strengths. An archer has a comparatively better fire rate than a crossbowman, so try to increase your fire rate not to decrease it. If you go for high PD, in the end, you might feel like a low-damage crossbowman rather than a competitive archer.
If you want to hit hard, just choose to be an arbalestier; you'll have more fun trust me.

Of course, do not get me wrong; long bow might be a good bow. I've seen people good with it. I am just trying to warn you about not going higher than 6 PD. You need to be accurate and faster to be effective, so agility is the primary weapon of an archer.

I think right now, the best archer builds are with a hornbow, 18 -21 or 21-21. Light armor of course.

Nord_Bagge an Merc_Zerobot (probably the best two pure archer playing atm on eu_1) are using Rus Bow and Bodkin with agi build (bagge has 160 wpf if i remember correctly).

i was 30 / 15 at one point. but i respecced, the damage increase isn't that significant due to the way the effective wpf formula works with power draw. 6 power daw is as high as ill ever go at the moment. im probably done retiring so lvl 34 i will be 18/30.  longbow sucks, hits hard but theres like this delay, after ur max drawn sometimes it takes like a second to shoot and its so annoying, plus u can forget about kiting with it, rus is just better in 90% of situations

going really high accuracy and focusing on headshots is a lot more effective way to get kills, plus the draw speed is amazing

ever seen varadin? he shoots into melee and never misses, he shotguns 3 people in a row from 0 meter distance, he always headshots and he is the best support you can imagine (not only stunning, he kills a massive shitload of players) and his longbow isnt even loomed yet
his build is 18/21 i think, not sure tough

I tried a 24-15 build with 8 PD a few gens ago, and when your arrows hit they would deal satisfying damage. I used tatar arrows and focused mainly on horses and enemy archers. Some archers would die from a single shot. But the draw time meant you had to trail your target for a good 2-3 seconds as you got ready to fire. Many players are able to pick up on this and will start wiggle-dodging before you get a chance to shoot at them.

Going for 18-XX build past level 31 once I retire. Faster firing and greater accuracy are more fun to play than landing a one hit kill after painfully aiming and missing for 15 seconds.

Not quite sure why people underestimate the longbow, Not saying is best weapon but it is very supporting if you know how to use it.

Best ssupport bow is mw bow. I kid you not you can draw that thing so fast that you can almost perma lock people in melee. You hit them then your ally tries to swing at them if the enemy blocks you're already drawn again. Trust me on this one. Mw Bow. Fucking God's bow on support. The accuracy is pin point like a crossbow with 170 wpf.
