Title: [Guide] How to get the Native projectile models back.
Post by: Molly on June 09, 2012, 11:02:12 pm
First off I'd like to point out that this is NOT a cheat. All it's doing is replacing the ingame modified projectile models with those which are used in Native.

And here is how it's done:

Credits for this "fix" go to Shik who was kind enough to give me this hint of editing the file after annoying him with a PM on the forum - Thanks again ;)

Since I am a Crossbow user I did not edit the arrows but as far as I can tell this should work for arrows too. If you use "arrows_flying" as search term in the editor you gonna find entries similiar to the entries described above. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work as with the bolts by replacing those entries with "flying_missile" too.
It would be nice if some archer could confirm this working for arrows too!

cRPG models for arrows are pretty dumb.  May as well make this change back to native ones since they're much easier to use and incorporate it into mod, so everyone is on equal footing.

Well, the heirloom package installs the same models as crpg does now afaik. And I think they come from the range overhaul mod.
For a melee it doesn't matter and they may even enjoy the real arrows and bolts flying around contrary to the "brown laser". This guide is just for ranged who have problems seeing the bolt/arrow trajectory on long distances. Like I did.

Hell yeah. I like this too. I were having really hard time determining whether I was aiming too low or too high when I wasn't hitting anyone. Should be much easier now :D

Thanks! I tried this for arrows and they seem to be more visible.

Well, the editor was just a suggestion anyway. Though I strongly believe that everybody should have Notepad++ installed. Just cuz it's an awesome tool you shouldn't miss.  8-)

Oh right...yeah notepad ++ is awesome if you do any batch file editing or anything like that...but for something like this I wouldn't suggest downloading it :P

I changed the arrows for my bow using this method and now i cant see anything. Do i need to keep the h1, because i dropped that part. I have a screenshot of the text, but dont know how to attach it. Do i have to have a higher amount of posts? Do i have to host the image?

Well you didn't type it right.. And no, you don't have to keep the H1. If you type in undefined models name, you will see nothing, so you did misstype it. To add image go to http://tinypic.com/ and upload your image, then just type in the link between [img] and [ /img] tags on your post...

I tried this tonight, unable to see my bolts.
I went through and changed everything to "flying_missle"
Then I reread the guide when they were invisible.

In my defense, I don't spell missile often.

Copy & paste is your friend.  CTRL-F = find, CTRL-R replace (in advanced word processors)

Does this also work with bows and quivers?

If so what do I have to change?

Haven't been here for a long time. Bosco I was talking about the way bows and quivers look like, not the flying missiles
