Title: Braceable pikes
Post by: Dalfador on May 12, 2012, 12:53:49 am
Ask the Deluge guys if you can use their braceable pike idea. It's pretty awesome. :) Pikes are meant to be used in groups to counter horses, so I don't see why a bracing ability would be a problem.

Why would anyone use braceable pikes if you can just stab and spin to kill anyone or anything within a 5 meters radius of you?

Add it and give a +4 to "PS" so you get a nice big damage output to make the thing seriously dangerous for horsymenz.

In deluge it looks pretty good and might be useful for big groups but otherwise it's rather bad. Only benefit you get from it is you won't drop your pike in high speed hit. Hit detection is messed up and at least I have big troubles getting horses hit with it. Much sure way to handle incoming horses is to stab and then quickly pick it back up or keep fighting with sidearm.

Wouldn't still mind, it looks awesome  :D

I like this for realism.
I like this for common sense
I like this because we need to be rid of pike martial art plate ninjas and the ridiculous things they could never even begin to do if there was a drop of realism

I am conflicted..

The cRPG pikeman would hate the removal of pike-fu.. but it just makes so much sense.

You can't import animations, models, or any source code from WFaS to warband. WFaS is from Sich.

Well then take it from VikingR or MM or NW...

lol this is false, you can simply give pikes upper attack by using item editor or just simply change it via using python, and yes you can, you can import animation from other mod to any mod

YES this is needed, add overhead stab for pikes & long spears to make them more feasable as a main wep, atm you can just facehug any piker with downblock on and spam him to bits.. :?

Lies, a good pike-fu artist will kick you and fuck your face up with a leaping spin poke of doom. It's already awesome, but I think it should be more awesome.

Does someone remember the overhead-stab that the devs tried for some time? Or have you played a mod with an overhead-stab? They look and feel rather dorky.

I've been a piker for a lot of my cRPG time and having two stabbing direction would make them very overpowered

This is a really good idea, if you can make it so the pike can be used as normal but then like with couching you can fix the pike in a single position. Add the couch damage multiplier and you have something great for countering mass cavalry charges. Clever players will walk round the pike as infantry so couch damage should only affect people stupid enough to run straight onto a braced pike (which in a way is pretty realistic). it may also make pikes being used behind shield walls better at stopping horsemen as when braced you could make the pike not collide with players in front. This is a simple and entirely beneficial suggestion. Please implement it!

Nice troll. Pikes are already rather pointless against cav because basically no one is stupid enough to ride into one. How will this be better if the pike is stationary?

I don't need two directions, bracing, or anything done with my Pike or Long Spear to make it good.

I am master of Pike-Fu.

no one is stupid enough to ride into one.

That is pretty much my point. I suppose i see this being used in the context of team formations which actually in battle is extremely rare. Pikes should be useful in groups and this idea would make them more valid for a grouped shield wall with pikes covering their backs and flanks. This is more useful probably in strat (so is basically redundant) but if people were to work together once in a blue moon in battle it could also be used then. There is no reason not to implement this to be honest. If it is so useless surely it wouldnt make the pike any less viable or more viable. So to be against it seems a bit unjustified :P

It's not as much about killing the cavalry as it is as telling them to gtfo or die. ;)
