ok i have a few questions real quick. First, what is points? And Secondly, why did they add a fee to put up and taxes to pay when we get it? that will just make prices skyrocket..... Its really stupid if you ask me.

What is points? - loom points
Why fee? - additional gold sink

And money sinks work to keep prices/inflation down.

And what`s the problem with people getting much money? Tbh I find this thing and the upkeep to just be annoying. I do not really adjust my equipment to the upkeep, but it is very annoying to know that you keep losing money while you play for no reason at all. It is not something we can prevent it simply takes peoples money. Personally I don`t mind people running around in plated chargers, because if you don`t know how to use it properly it is no good. Same with everything else! you don`t become good because you wear plate, you just trade some of your speed for protection.
Oh and the upkeep mostly hurts new players, people with one million in their account wont really notice a difference if they lost 500 gold to upkeep tho it is still not fun to lose it.

Everyone riding plated chargers and wearing full tincan armour all the time, that's what's wrong with it.
If you're worried about losing money: use less expensive gear.
And about upkeep hurting new players: you're wrong. No money sinks = everyone using the heaviest gear, except the new players who can't afford buying it yet.

Well, these days, the choice between heavy and medium gear isn't really about money - it's more about personal preference with regard to weight, speed and so on, especially since heavy armor was nerfed. At least from what I can see and hear.

Yes, i agree. So if anything, cRPG needs more money sinks. Not less...!

Well, considering that you admit it isn't about the money, and that way more people wear medium than heavy armor...
-
Zlish you fail at understanding.
I'm not saying it's not about money. It is. But if anything, cRPG needs more upkeep and money sinks instead of less, because the rich players are getting richer on average, allowing them to run around in very heavy gear. That sucks for new players, because they'll take a long time to catch up.
If upkeep was higher / the game had more money sinks, the new players would catch up much faster.
-
They only thing money is good for anymore is buying looms, at least for me. With a bit of grinding I can get enough gold to wear full plate until retirement during lvl 1-25.
-
Yah, that happens if you 1) retire a lot and 2) use light gear between level 1 and 25. Besides, you are not cav, so that saves a lot of upkeep.
So you'll have to wear really heavy gear to make a loss.
Anyways, what i'm saying is: less upkeep and money sinks = bad for new players. cRPG needs more, not less. People are getting too rich.
-
Phazey if upkeep were any higher than it is then new players would have a very hard time getting any half decent equipment. Oh and most people will still choose to go with medium-heavy armor even with no upkeep. Simply because heavy is not always better than medium-light.
But if upkeep were to be removed then light armor should get a small buff and heavy armor a small nerf, just to balance things a bit better.
-
I think central government of cRPG should just take allll the money of everybody and distribute it equally among the member
Coco, my communist horse will be happy!

So you can sell loom points on the market now, and they're taxed. Can you still sell them the conventional way and avoid tax? I.E. Put loom point for sale in forums, sell a dagger for 550k, and avoid the tax?
-
When you put something for sale, you (as the seller) will lose 5% of what you asked for it.
-
When you put something for sale, you (as the seller) will lose 5% of what you asked for it.
When you put a request to buy something, you (as the buyer) also put up an additional 5% of what you're asking, which goes into limbo.
So no, there is no way to avoid the tax, other than to trade in items themselves. (I.E. 3 loom points for a +3 item, no tax. Just a 100 gold fee.)
-
I don't seem to see any +0 items on the market. Is it just me or a bug?
-
I hope for a more lively economy to be honest. I mean, the tax is good and all, but I wish there was a true economy and not just weapon exchange.
one can dream I guess.

Upkeep was put in place to prevent people from playing non-stop in gear considered as overpowered. And it failed in every possible way :
- Expensive gear wasn't equal to powerful gear, not in January 2011 and even less today.
- People bypassed the upkeep by leeching half-naked (and if you think this is fine, you are ugly and stupid <3 )
- People bypassed the upkeep by selling heirloom points or playing the market.
- It hits new players very harshly because it's one of the least well-documented "features" of the mod. Newcomers need money to buy new gear and they end up using everything without knowing they need a buffer.
- The rise of gold income that came with it destroyed the value of regular equipment (if I want to buy a plated charger there's no problem today. It used to be an investment of several generations before januray 2011)
- Overpowered gear got nerfed anyway after the dev team realised the upkeep didn't make those items any more fair when you had to play with these ingame (you see less of these but they are still op).
- Upkeep came bundled with the multiplier system that penalises you as far as to prevent you from using the gear you like if you do not win rounds. To win rounds you rely on your team. The only thing really multiplied by the multiplier is rage.
Upkeep has become both ineffective and useless, which sort of works for non-newbies. The item balance is already ok without it and it actually adds a bias in the wrong direction. It doesn't work as a gold sink as for many people the best choice of equipment only in ingame stats is one they earn money with, not the uber $$$ plate or horse because these are simply not as good.

And money sinks work to keep prices/inflation down.
I'm not buying it. It may slow trade down a little, which may slow inflation but it's not going to reverse the trend. The money supply will continue to expand, because people will continue to roll positive upkeep gens.
I have one question. What is it exactly that is being fixed? Is it an in game balance or is it to help new players buy looms?
TBH 'we the players' had solved inflation for nubs and first gen player by having loom point prices go skywards. Sell 2 loom points buy a +3, that's the equation at the min. If anything the giant arse kick to inflation has made it easier to get looms. September last year you got around 200k for a loom point and a +3 was around 1mill its become much more equitable for the new players. Now they can flog a loom, get a +1 and fit out a char to do anything they feel like for a gen (almost).
The taxes and fees aren't really an issue or problem for me, I've got plenty of gold and I'll just adjust my prices and expectations accordingly. It's only going to slow the amount of gold I'm pulling in... slightly, it's not going to make me fear upkeep.

Just give newbs 15k to buy gear with. New CD key = first char gets 15k. This can't be exploited, what kind of retard would buy CD keys for 15k?
