Title: Building an engineer
Post by: FRANK_THE_TANK on April 21, 2012, 06:11:40 am
I'm trying to figure out what the best possible engineer could be.

Given the huge weight of equipment ATH is mostly useless unless you are dumping and running. What real engineer would leave his beloved pile of wood behind.

But 180 WPF should lower the break chance if the siege gear if it really is associated to throwing WPF, as well as making ranged shots a whole lot more accurate.

Then again 95HP is going to make it a lot easier to plod into position under fire and survive. The str build has 45 more HP than the agi build.

Also the str build can use all of the throwing weapons...

Choices, choices...

So what do you guys think?

for engineer to work  u need other people's help with the contruction material, and also one engie couldnt defend his whole catapult from destruction. for engie clan they should all have throwing because of only 1 slot to easily gang those who come near their shit and somehow be able to afford always having construction site and materials with them.. also the healing tent should be changed to also refill their ammo! thus very high PT is needed along with throwing prof to make building things faster. Throwing definitely.

I'd go with the HP/strength personally. You're difficult to take down and can hold your own if you're sought out by melee/ranged.

Not 100% on the WPF affecting siege gear, if it does I would go for a happy medium.

Not too worried about holding my own. With my ping killing people is just a bonus.

Cash supply is not an issue, and help is ample. Its hard to pick, very hard.

Looks like I'm going to have to make an STF and test out the break chance with a thrower.

Strength build, probably, although another concern would be their attempts to break your siege equipment so a high shielder build could also work, maybe...

Yeah I'm not to worried about people breaking it. A lot of it comes down to being a sneaky bastard.

A weapons rack will die in 1 shot from almost anything. Except arrows and bolts.

Good thing the round buckler is 0 slot. I can use Hammer+RB+CS+CM woot, talk about a pricey build lol.

You seriously want to spend your time playing walking back and forth and being a liability to your team?

You really have a serious problem with engineers don't you?
"liability", fine, maybe we don't get many kills, or any at all. But there are plenty of noobs out there that do nothing aswell. The "cannon fodder" excuse does not work either as the enemy team will always try to come over the the construction site and destroy ir, thus distracting them like a noob would.

Stop being so hateful towards engineers, people have the right to play the game however they want to.

I'm testing out the AGI build. I'll report back once I try out the other one. I'll stf the STR build.

GTFO with your catapults from my battle server. The team that starts building a catapult always loses. Half the team goes to watch the catapult being built, the other half gets slaughtered, then the catapult morons get their asses whooped.

Or if the team starts camping the catapult building as a whole, which is the only thing you can do to not get split up, cause there is always people standing at the catapult, the catapult never gets finished because the teams clash too close to the catapult and it gets caught in the fray.

Now as soon as I reach lvl 30 I don't care much about winning anymore, but just remember that when you are building a catapult you are basically fucking 60 people over.

Without throwing wpf you will get destroyed by upkeep.

If you are not going to throw essentially, get no power throw. So your wpf will not suffer from the penalty, and it will reduce the upkeep. I am not sure though what determines the break chance. Effective wpf or base wpf? You gotta check.

I hope you will be successful and can have fun. Becoming an engineer in crpg is harder than being a dagger cavalry or horseback thrower. My advice would be having a high STR buddy to be your bodyguard. Someone you can play with always and can talk via skype.

Edit: I would be that buddy if I was not going to become a Horse Archer. Engineers need love.

WPF in throwing does lower break chance.

told you  :)

Edit: If i were you i would make 3/39 or some build like that and don't invest any point into ath. So 13 Weapon master, ur repair chance will become XXXXXXXXXXXX

he's not building catapults teeth, so your straw man logical fallacy is an invalid argument.

What is he building then?

What is he building then?

In the other thread on general forums it's discussed at length.  He's building spawn points (forward bases) as an attacker, and healing tents as a defender.  Also the occasional weapons rack.

People building siege towers and catapults in siege ARE pointless.

Question now is... how will people in Strategus who don't know how to operate siege gear operate siege gear?

Don't do it yourself!
Hire ST6!
CERTIFIED engineers who know exactly what they are doing.

Don't hesitate to call, we'll knock down that wall!

Need a siege tower? We've the manpower!

Traumatic events? Use our tents!

ST6, BANG and the enemy is gone.

This is true! People can't practice with it now, so only us old-timers can use it.

I dunno with you guys, but I was also damn good with the ladders, back-in-the-day. Should we put that up too?

It's up to Frank. I'm sure people will keep trying to do sieges the old fashioned way, with ladders rushing as opposed to catapults demolishing walls.
*edit*
Also I'm sure enough people from the major factions know how to build stuff anyways, but I thought it would make a funny ad.

It would be cool if ladders could be built from the C-site.   :o  Costs 1 conmat... so that one engineer could put it down at the beginning of a map near the wall... archers trying to snipe his turban'd head as shielders protect him... how sweet would that be?

Defenders would learn to fear the turban! Out of interest, why was it the turban that was chosen? I think I would prefer the fur hat myself.

Frank chose the headwear for ST6.  I'm not sure why turban.  :P
