Discuss your answer and why
-
The egg, obviously. Read any book on evolution.
-
Humpty Dumpty? Is that the book because that does not count
-
Holy fucking shit, I was just about to troll your other thread about "The Nameless", 1slander, but then I saw this thread. My girlfriend and I were discussing this exact same fucking thing less than two hours ago.
The first thing that came to my mind was that it was the egg, because the chicken has to come from the fucking egg... but then where does the egg come from? Man, confusing shit right here. A classic example of circular cause and consequence.
-
What if they came into existence at the same time?

Basically it's about as deep as deep gets.
What if they came into existence at the same time?
This makes more sense does it not?
-
neither exists..
i smell a conspiracy
-
Evolution
OR
God...who doesnt exist.
But people beg the differ.
-
Egg of course. Lizards, other birds etc. were way before chicken. After chicken comes oven and delicious food time.
-
The chicken would have been created by a gentic mutation by an animal before the chicken. The animal would lay an egg and instead of creating another pre-chicken creature a chicken was born. It had some useful trait that allowed to pass on its genes faster or more efficiently so the pre-chicken animal was replaced by the chicken. Simples :)

Do you understand why this question is still floating around??..
-
First came the tyrannosaurus rex.
-
Why does it matter what came first? The main question SHOULD be who will be last?

EGG
Genetic mutations occur during the creation of the cells that will ultimately be the new lifeform, since this can only occur once a females eggs have been fertilized and the new life starts to become what ever the gene sequence has shaped it to become, yet sometimes mutatations occur at this stage which can affect how the lifeform develops throughout its life.
If this mutation is to the advantage of the lifeform then there's a good chance it will reproduce with other lifeforms of the same species until this dominant gene is more widespread. But what we also have to remember it's not only genes that shape lifeforms but the enviroment in which it lives.
So for instance, you could get 2 newly formed slighty different chickens, one lives in a region where there are alot of ground predators, and due to this, this chicken starts to use its wings more and more, and if somehow the species survived long enough, I'm sure they'd learn to fly again. Where as the other chicken gets captured by an ape and put in cages all its life, eventually due to the internal heating of the hatcheries feathers are no longer needed to keep the chicken warm so it starts to lose its feathers. After hundreds of thousands of years, each chicken would continously go on a different path of evolution, partly down to enviroment and partly down to isolation from one another.
In the end we will have 2 different species of chicken and maybe in many many more years, 2 species of bird.
But it started with an egg!

If you knew the answer you would be legend.

well imo its about how you define chicken, chicken as we know it today evolved from its predecessors it wasnt a like two headed forum troll lay an egg, and bam chicken comes out

CHICKEN
This theory of lizards laying eggs and out comes a chicken is a nice tale to tell your children so the sleep well and do their homework. But it doesn't withstand scientific examination.
Upfront - I can see a chicken loosing its feathers or learning to fly through evolution. It's not that different from breeding dogs after all.
But now consider this:
Even if we take nothing into account but the genes there's only so and so many that produce a healthy chicken. The vast majority of possible mutations would not even produce something that could survive for two seconds. In other words the chance that a lizard mutates into a chicken is so infinitely small that it'd would take half your life to even read the number. We've never witnessed a species evolving into another. Heck, if you are a white man with a white wife and your child is black could she tell you some stories about mutation? And that's easy.
And even if that happens (it won't) we have only one chicken. How's that gonna mate? Assuming it isn't eaten in the first place, because whatever improvement those wings are over the legs, chickens are still eaten 9 times out of 10.
But maybe it's all done in small steps ... like maybe a lizard gets some feathers and then the feathered lizards thrive and multiply and then one of those grows a beak (if genetics were that simple...), and the beaked feathered lizard multiplies and one of them learns to stand up on his hindlegs... We'd be knee deep in strange monsters if it worked that way. Well, we aren't, even if a lizard got feathers, it'd be still a lizard and no more survivable. On the contrary, someone mistakes it for a chicken and eats it. He can only tell by the taste.
For anyone who can cast of his bias for a moment the answer is obvious.
Fish rain.
Well, you know when sometimes it's raining fish or frogs ... well, one day it rained chicken.

This is the closest answer to scientific fact which indicates there has been evolutionionary development

Legendary Status to anyone who can correctly answer this question. We will have the forum mods hard code it into your forum profile.

Evolution is gradual, not instant. Dinosaurs didn't shit out eggs and birds hatch from them the next day.

Where's the pterodactyl option?
-
The egg came first, 2 species similar to chickens had sex and bam a chicken egg came out :D
-
Chicken ofc.
Btw Wulzz.....nice avatar there, knowing your playstyle i bet it sure doesnt give you any "hard times".......
-
Chicken, or well the cell that evolved from being a cell to the chicken, cells dont need eggs to reproduce
-
Do you understand why this question is still floating around??..
Ignorance, stupidity, poor education and primarily, mankind's ability to sustain any illogical thought as the basis for a system of thousands of years of belief.

HURR?
Did you know when babies are born they're born with a distinct pattern of genes that is made up of its parents DNA. Did you know this DNA, remains a constant throughout your whole life until death. Did you know that your genes are what set the rules in your body, for every function and purpose of your body, therefore if there's a genetic mutation after conception then this mutation could possibly manifest itself as an external mutation (like bigger claws, bigger tits, smaller dicks ect), or internal mutation (stronger heart, bigger lungs, bigger brain, resistance to more viruses and illnesses) and in cases the mutation isnt a positive but a negative like removing the bodies ability to produce antibodies or a higher level of lactose intollerance, or a higher risk of cancer. Only because of how our society and technology has developed people with faulty genes these days live, or else if we were back in the medieval age, these people with genetic handicaps would most likely die at an early age.

You all are wrong, dont you understand the chicken IS the egg. Think about it

Huuuur I meant the first cells/bacteria that happened to exist a couple of hundreds of millions years ago, that evolved into a chicken :P
