Title: Remove weapon pick up from crpg.
Post by: Kophka on March 15, 2011, 08:56:49 pm
I'm probably gonna get hammered for this one, but what do you guys think of eliminating weapon pick up in-game? It was an important part of native, because you only had pre-selected gear to choose from. That's not the case in crpg. You can buy any gear you want here, so I think you should play with what you bring. This will help to balance throwers, with their limited ammo count, and eliminate the "archer runs around at round end, looking for ammo" situations. I think that if you need a pike, or think you do, you should bring it with you, instead of picking one up. Same for any other gear.

Thoughts?

Why exactly are you justifying shields being better then a poleaxe or arrows? If I spend all my arrows or my horse dies, I get to be displeased if someone with a shield picks up a new one after his original breaks.

Regardless, I am happy with the way the system works now, though it is an interesting suggestion that you present.

Just a side note: Why should shielders be able to pick up shields, while archers/throwers shouldn't be able to pick up arrows/ammo?

EDIT: rephrased

That's why I voted for Yes, not the Yes, except shields option. :D

I'll remove the shields text (though it won't let me change the poll), you're a 100% right on that one.

important part of native? beta maybe :P

come on, poke yourself in the eye with something blunt, not enough to do damage but enough to make you think 'what am I looking at here'.

No. It's too much fun chasing a shielder who's looking for a shield, a thrower who's looking for axes, or an archer looking for arrows.

Also, I like picking up other folks' random heirlooms.

I also enjoy finding people that have a weapon and trading with them to try it out, we both get to decide if we want that weapon, and neither of us has to waste the time getting the gold to see if we hate it (English Bill I'm looking at you!).

Also, scavenging for arrows while avoiding enemy fire and horses is what being an archer is ABOUT.

Mainly this for me, I remember having one of my friends who has played this for months trade weapons for a new character of mine, this saved a lot of gold while I figured out what to use.

Also, defeating a guy who really tried your skills, and grabbing his weapon to have go on someone else with, test out someone elses style for a bit, always good. Saves buying that weapon or heirlooming it just to see what it's like.

The system works as it should.
If you are capable of using a weapon you should be able to pick up any you find!

I feel this, BUT: I would like too see more "wastage" of arrows, throwing weapons, bolts...

Now, if a projectile hits a shield, a person, a horse, or any breakable object, it is lost forever. Also, I believe this is a bug, some arrows I fire sometimes seems to "Jump to hyperspace", go ultraloooooooong and thin and then vanish, pop. This may well be a bug, or maybe I fire them just TOO damn fast.

But other than these arrows, and those projectiles that get stuck in something, ALL others can be retrieved. While I LIKE being being able to retrieve ammo, and I think it should stay as a feature, I would like to see more things be "spent", arrows hit walls, sometimes they stick, sometimes they break, same with axes, throw it into something and maybe, UNLUCKY, it gets broken, blunted or twisted when it hits a rock, a tree....

Not many, but more than now, lost forever. A good thing in my view.

Not a fan of the idea either tbh.  Sounds gimp.

I have been on maps where there are weopons just laying around that are part of the map graphically and I thought it would be cool if you could pick them up.  Like a rack of swords say, or whatever.  As a thrower I know that having the ability to loot off the ground was awesome.  Sure you don't like that - but we all need our time to shine.

How about a map where there is a sword in a stone in the middle - like exalibur - first person to loot it gets to use it - it's epic uber - he dies then it's lootable again right.  Whoever holds it has like a 1 hit wonder weopon.  Sure some people think this is a dumb idea.  Whatever.  Who cares.  Neither of our ideas will be implemented in this game, that's a fact.

Anybody that thinks that gear pick up should be removed is a developmentally disabled and insane lunatic.  WE WANT THE GAME TO BE MORE REALISTIC AND NOT JUST PLAIN GAY.

Any gay changes and this game will collapse and nobody will play it.

This is the best comment on this topic ever.

We should make it possible to pick up more weapons, gold, and loot! :) Not less...

This is the best statement I've ever heard on a crpg forum to date
