More realistic without it, I'm pretty sure cavs are tired of being faked by people that turn at the last second.
-
wow, Namo actually thought of something intelligent?
-
Been suggested before, I'm certain.
Dunno where it went though...
-
Yes, because cav needs a buff
Apart from ranged weapons, that's the only time you can take down a cav that knows what he's doing. If he knows that you know about his presence he will find some other guys to rape in the back. It should stay, definitely. Game balance > Realism
-
idk.. i kind of like this idea. We could try it out.
In the beginnings of cRPG very few used it, and it was a nice way to trick people.. cav. Now everyone uses it and it just introduces a kind of randomness.
I think it's worth trying out really. Would be interesting to see how gameplay changed.
If it sucks we could just turn it back on..

Realism board, try again.

I hate how you can never be sure when sneaking up on people whether they are ~ baiting you are not. It just adds an element of randomness and is frankly pretty weird. I do like using it to check out how sexy I look though. :D
I use the ~ a lot, but I'd rather have it out of the game, or at least try it out like Thomek suggested.
-
I don't think its totally unrealistic. If you consider it as awareness its not so bad. The sound is so naff that you can't get any useful directional information out of it.
I think it should stay.
-
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
-
Better yet, reduce vision to first person with a slightly wider field of vision than it has now, and using ~ key to physical turn your head left and right!
-
Well come to think of it, IRL you can look over your shoulder but at 200 degree not 360 and also when you do look over your shoulder you don't run/walk as fast so those are 2 things to consider as well.
-
Only insults comes to my mind  so, no thanks.
-
and wearing armor and helmet might decrease it to like 180 degrees, plate helmet to even 90 I´d say ...
Weeell, maybe implement this just to see how it works out, not for the sake of realism but as an intresting new game mechanic. If it sucks they can always roll back.
-
Don't you remove it! I want to look at myself how amazing I look! And don't buff backstabbing cavalry anymore! There needs to be some kind of looking around at least... have you ever noticed that you can turn your head? Try it and be surprised!
-
In RL it's extremely obvious when someone is looking behind/around. We are on the realism board, so the only suggestion that makes sense is disabling it.
But of course then we'll have less trololo last second pointy stick pranks, and good cav will do better. Atm, this doesn't really separate the good cav from the bad, as there's no way to tell for certain whether someone is ~ing or not. It's all guesswork which makes it quite a stupid game mechanic.
It also offers the possibility of running forward at max speed while looking behind, which shouldn't be possible either.
-
Horrible suggestion.
You cannot honestly argue for this while still having 3rd person as the dominant view.
Think about this.. you cant turn your head without turning your body if you disable ~, and that is really stupid... So if you want to go the realism route with your argument you can consider that... but most folk are probably pretty weak in terms of logic and will simply say "well you cant turn your head around 360 degrees like ~ allows you to..
i think ~ is good... it helps "make up" for the lack of things like crouching, or other stealthy ways to look around..
-

That came just to my mind... I cant look at my back head in RL without a mirror, so what is this talk about realism here?
And NO, DONT REMOVE 3rd PERSON!

Not true. Keeping it in but making the head model turn according to it's use, and limiting it to approx 90 degrees left and right makes sense.
-
Disable - key
also disable ranged options
-
Only if cav bump gets nerfed down to 25% damage and horses die to 1 hit.
-
Realism board, try again.
I know it's the realism board. It's just a bad idea because of how good cavalry are already. Remove it and they have almost no risk when charging in, compared to the low risk they have now
-
would love if they took this out and implemented some basic FOV functions like most FPS games. Have ability to increase FOV some and eventually limit FOV based on helmet you're wearing
-
Hmm make character head turn when player is using the magic key and looking behind? Just saying. I don't really care, but since removing the button is suggested why not put an indicator showing when people are using it and not remove the button completely?
-
no way, let it stay. I dont see a reason to limit or remove it.
-
They can make the head rotate when you use the key. OK, I just wanna see all those heads heavily rotating 360° in battle
-
No, leave it please. This is the best way to kill cav, since you only hear them when its too late.
Usually when i sneak up on someone i know that they arent suspecting me if they dont walk in a straight line. If i see someone and they run in a straight line i always suspect that they use the ~ button because that makes them unable to steer with their mouse.
-

Yes, cause its not like that cav is pretty much unbalanceable due to the monopoly on mobility they have and therefore get the ability to prey on the unaware. Lets nerf awareness more!
-
Ideally the game needs a seperate head animation turning the head sideways when the console free look is activated, but removing this feature outright would bring with it a host of balance problems.

Implement it this way, it's realistic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMHkFUQiQzo

In real life, I can run in one direction while looking in a different one. Leave it.

Not at full speed. The ability to do this should remain, making an animation of the head turning would be ideal however. Also, you shouldn't be running at top speed when you're looking 180 degrees behind you.
-
Well then let's remove 3rd person view all together.
-

Would have been cool if they didn't have 3rd person from the beginning, I'm pretty sure people would get used to it just fine.

Realism discussion about a videogame... What a mess... Super Mario was never realistic and we all still played it and enjoyed it. Why not just leave this like it is. Not a big deal imo. Just like a discussion about polearm speed some time ago. Siiem made a really good point that in reality poleaxes and weapons similiar to them were used completely differently than the game mechanics of this game allow you to play them. Many polearm tecniques require "hooking" and wrestling etc to bring the opponent to the ground and then give the finishing strike. I don't see the point of realism discussion if the weapons are balanced and there is people who use them. I'd rather not touch this certain button either.
-
Super Mario...
HEY, you should TOTALLY be able to jump on people from a height to kill/damage them! Buff ninjarzzxx!!!111

This is a good idea, but sadly I don't see a separated head movement being modded into the game. This is fiddling with things that are hardly modifiable.
In real life, I can run in one direction while looking in a different one. Leave it.
Heh... you should maybe double check this. I'm not even asking for you to look back. Just try to run fast and straight while looking 80 degrees to your right or left. Have fun.
It just "works" as it is now. Not realistic, but not really a problem either.
-

Yeah, first person needs a wider field of vision.

You probably think of sprinting. Characters don't sprint in M&B. It's quite possible to jog while turning your head around.
-
Anyhow this thread is completely useless. Dunno if the head can be made to turn when someone uses ~ button and I simply do not care. I suggested it just out of curiosity if it could be done. If it can be done I bet it is also easy to cheat by disabling the headturn animation somehow because I'd imagine the 360 viewing is clientside. It's also probably hardcoded so not possible to mod afterall. Too much work for too little gain in any case. Hard game hit hard etc...

The animations are clientside, but the keys go to the server. So you might disable the animations, but that would cheat only yourself 8-)
But you're right, the request is just a waste of time.

Yes but I'm sure it is possible to hide the ~ key usage from the server while in the meantime you're still looking around, right?
