Title: Wakizashi
Post by: Auphilia on February 28, 2012, 06:07:33 pm
Nordic Short Sword: Costs 2,334.
(click to show/hide)

Wakizashi: Costs 7,554.
(click to show/hide)

LOL wut? Nordic Short Sword beats the Wakizashi in EVERY single way, besides 1 measly speed point.

Quit taxing the weaboos, and make the game fair please. We already play with gimped weapons and armor and give you all easy kills, why are you going to charge us for it too? x.X

I know you want all Japanese gear out of the game, and that is fine. Take it out, or make it fair.

That is all I'm asking.

Nobleman Outfit
weight: 0.7
body armor: 8
leg armor: 6
Gold Cost: 3018

VS

Light Strange Armor
weight: 6.9
body armor: 30
leg armor: 11
difficulty: 8
Gold Cost: 2589

I'd say you have it easy compared to all those guys who are trying to roleplay as nobles in game.

you gotta pay more for paper armor if you want to be "unique" or roleplay nobleman. and thats gooood

Don't even start with that lol. I was the FIRST person to complain about the increase in prices for the "noble" clothes. All that did was even further minimize variety in the game, as no one is going to pay 300% more just to wear a colorful shirt...

That was one of the reasons I stopped RPing a noble lol. I agree that that change was wrong too.

HOWEVER, that has nothing to do with this topic.

With all of this logic, the long dagger, scottish sword, and italian weapons look a lot more "fancy" than a wakizashi...

The Flamberge is fancy, too. Too fancy, in fact. Therefore I propose a nerf. It only makes sense, after all. Style is very costly.

Here are my proposed stats for the Flamberge:

Flamberge
weapon length: 152
weight: 1
difficulty: 30
speed rating: 85
thrust damage: 20 pierce
swing damage: 36 cut
slots: 4
Can't use on horseback
Can't sheath
Unbalanced

Of course it would also only attack with stabs and overheads. Side swinging with such a nice looking sword would be *far* too fancy. Seems reasonable to me.

It is well balanced if you think about weeaboo upkeep (the usual weeaboo- like armors are shit cheap etc...) Shut your mouth and pay!

Just make it 0 slots or something.

YES.

Please, thats such a good idea.

I mean for real, it would actually give the wakizashi some kind of role except for the looks.

Make wakizashi 0 slot, see every archer dropping their handaxe / hatchet and using it.

Make wakizashi 0 slot, see every archer dropping their handaxe / hatchet and using it.

Hand Axe
weapon length: 48
weight: 1
speed rating: 103
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 28 cut
slots: 0
Bonus against Shield
1,010 gold

Wakizashi
weapon length: 70
weight: 1
difficulty: 4
speed rating: 104
thrust damage: 21 pierce
swing damage: 28 cut
slots: 1
7,554 gold

Do you really think 22 length, 1 speed, and a useless stab are *really* worth 6.5k, all the repair costs that come with it (archers naturally have a low 1h wpf due to the bulk of their wpf going into archery), and a bonus against shield? I'll admit that the length sounds substantial, but it's only about the same difference between the Steel Pick and Grosse Messer. I can't tell the difference in speed, honestly, and the stab will only get a Waki user killed with glancing.

Even if it is worth it, as of right now there's not much of a reason not to take the Waki at any time for any playstyle over... oh, say, the Short Falchion.

Short Falchion
weapon length: 61
weight: 1
difficulty: 4
speed rating: 104
thrust damage: 0 pierce
swing damage: 30 cut
slots: 1
1,229 gold

No stab, 9 less length, but hey! There's more cut damage and it's cheaper!

As it stands its crappy, but i don't know if 0 slot is the way forward for it.

I like it being crappy, makes it more funny if you get a kill with it. :P

I say make it cheaper and/or zero slot it.

There really is absolutely no fair reason for it being the price and stats it is now.

I'd rather see it nerfed a bit and zero slotted/cheaper, than have it the way it is now.

I'd be perfectly fine if it was identical to the Nordic Short Sword except less pierce, length, AND cheaper.

Well, the wakizashi has 104 speed. That's wicked fast. Actually it's the fastest in the game (that can block), and no other weapon has 104 speed or more with that length. If you don't like the wakizashi and have to be a ninja use the katana.

Short falchion has same speed but cost 6.5k less. And there are many swords with 103 speed and 11 more length.

I think that wakizashi can have one of this options

1 - another 0 slot weapon
2 - hybrid 1h\2h weapon.

It has long enough handle for two hands

Actually.. in 2 hands it would be awesome and really unique. Good idea Cup1d.

Katana ain't fast enough? Why don't you ask Paul to buff it, I'm sure he would gladly do it.

Don't worry about Fasaderp, he's dead anyway.

Wrong, I've worn nobleman clothes. Being exquisite is cool.

Historically speaking, anyone that actually used Japanese weapons on a medieval European battlefield was probably some fancy-pants spice merchant who couldn't swing a sword to save their life. The "weaboo stat penalty" on Japanese equipment in cRPG is just a reflection of this fact.

'Historically speaking'

Game balance wise it eats my money as I repair a weapon I never use and hold only to look cool. (Some people actually care about looking cool in this game as opposed to having the most buff stats possible)

My full tin can alt can wear his full armor have 2 weapons + a long dagger but at least he isn't forking out near 600g for his useless dagger on top of all his other equip.

& C-rpg as far as I know is based in Calradia. "Facts" about medieval europe (and fancy pants spice traders?) should have no say here.

Anyway would be amazing if this thing got it's price lowered, now that I'm actually trying to save money to buy something special I'm finding that bringing the wakizashi is just a waste of A LOT of cash.

Mori, your sarcasm meter is broken.

I say just adjust the upkeep calculation so you have a diminished chance of item breakage the longer it remains sheathed. After all, it's silly that a sword could break just as frequently from dangling at your side as one being used in actual combat.
