The chadz text system has run its course. Its a pile of crap that needs to burnt at the stake for heresy and a new system erected in its place.
This isn't the place to pre-pose a new system, just rage about the current one.

It's important to note that chadztext is, in fact, a heathen witch.
All we will learn by burning it at the stake is that it is a witch. You can not kill it with fire. It must be hanged and then burned, to prevent any residual heresy.

My biggest concern with the current system is that I won't be able to provide people with siege ladders for only 55 gold each for the first 30 and 50 gold each for every ladder after that (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,25256.msg365364.html#msg365364) if I can't increase the skill anymore after retirement. Ladders normally cost 80.61 so that's an amazing deal and they're really handy for roof camping or assaulting castles in Strategus.

I have 2 ides to replace the system, one should allow 31+s to craft.
In a tab that looks like the retire tab you select 4 items and as you gain XP they grind skill pounts 1gen = 9skill points. You have to use the selected item and if you don't have an item selected it degenerates but if you have it selected and don't use the weapon it doesn't degenerate.
The other is less aboozable but also punishes 31+s. Upon retiring you can select 4 items and each is given +6 points, with this system you can leave the shitty system in place and allow 31+s to get it I guess which would be fairer than the current horrid pile of aggravating crap ("Tell them how you really feel Frank").

I think current one is fine, it reward players who don't powerlevel their character and who stick to their equipment.

Unfortunately it doesn't Lech. I spent 6 weeks wearing the same shit playing for a 2-5 hours 5ish days a week and didn't get a tick. I started playing just after the ATHW system was introduce but when I started play strat 3 I didn't have any crafting to speak of. 5 months as a shielder and I didn't get points in crafting until Dec-Jan.
I did however get 6 crafting in arbs, I used them for a grand total of like 5 hours, maybe with no WPF. I figure in total I've had 13-18 crafting ticks, including ticks on alts. Its just... lame. This system doesn't give me a damn thing for "Hard work" its another psychological experiment by chadz for his PHD... Which I might add should be complete very soon.

So you're saying you got ATHW a lot? That doesn't make it a good system, it just means you're lucky. Some people have gone multiple generations without ever getting it.

It is somehow influenced by your in-game behavior (we just don't know exactly how), so i think those people should l2p or stop being aussie.

Lech there are Aussie players with 90+ in multiple +3s. I rolled the same gear for 2 gens, didn't change it at all and never got a tick. I've made sure to keep myself alive as long as possible.
Nearly every time I've gotten the tick I've had random junk on. When I purposefully set out to boost crafting in specific gear I basically failed to get ticks.
Your single example means nothing in the sea of people doing the same thing as you who are getting nowhere. If the system was fully based on player behavior by now we would have figured it out and all be making it redundant with our 100 skill.
Here is the list of crap that it doesn't seem to be dependent on.
K/D, wearing the same stuff all the time, build settings.
Now it could be but it sure as hell doesn't seem like its any of those or even all of them because I've seen the "rule" proven to many times for it stand up. Correlation isn't causation.
The system is a turd and it should be replaced.

IMHO a "Guaranteed Text" system, where you would be nearly guaranteed to get it either once, or twice a week... when you do not get it, your chance of getting it will increase perpetually, until you get it, at which point this new function would go on cooldown.
So, say you have a 1/50,000,000 chance to get chadztext every second, currently. You'd get an additional 1/50,000,000 chance every second you don't get it, every 80 hours.
So you'd have:
1/50,000,000
1/25,000,000
1/16,666,666
1/12,500,000
1/10,000,000
1/ 8,333,333
~~(60 sec)~~
1/ 833,333
~~(2 mins)~~
1/ 416,666
ETC. until you get it, when it would return to 1/50,000,000 chance per sec for the next 80 hours. Using that system you'd almost be assured to get it within an hour of play. I think that would also add incentive for people to play cRPG semi-regularly, especially those who enjoy Strategus.
*E: and using this "Guaranteed Text" at the above 2/week it would still take 49 weeks to reach 99 craft skill, assuming your gear loadout stays the same. My average is about two per month, though I got the majority of all my text within the span of a week or so. Personally I would still rather see an entirely different system.

I think your idea RibaldRon is a good one at least as a stop gap measure for the el tardo system we have atm.
But I personally prefer the idea of an "xp" based system where items you don't have selected degrade at the same rate as the ones you do have selected, and the degradation is entirely limited to playing and improving the selected items.
Also I want to be able to donate money to move my fraking crafting skill points! Make that lottery :/ I will buy a ticket!

a Bamp for this topic and a question, does anyone know if using an alt effects the chance of getting a chadz text on my main character? Dont wanna risk using my alt unless I know hes got a different chance of getting a chadz text, been carry the same gear for over 15 million xp on my main without a text nearly 2 gens now so I most be close to getting one.... just dont want to get it on my alt!
Anyone know?
