Title: Would this remove hilt slashes?
Post by: Spa_geh_tea on February 27, 2012, 06:13:05 pm
Only the last 1/5 of any weapon does damage. The rest glances or stuns.

the sweet spot mechanic is already in place, it just doesn't work optimally.

I've wondered about that.  I've always assumed it was in place but that the "sweet spot" for each weapon was coded to be pretty much the whole thing.

For example, it's very noticeable on the scythe -- if you don't hit them with the metal bit at the end, you won't do any damage.  Face hugging a scythe user works great.

I can't think of any other weapon this is true for.  It seems like the "sweet spot" on every weapon other than the scythe is "the entire weapon".  Getting face hugged by a pike user is just a bit silly.

Yeah, you can face-hug a pike user, but if they even get like 6 inches of space on you, they can stab you somehow.

I've stopped retiring and mostly play 1-hander now; I still don't want hiltslashes removed. They add a nice dynamic to melee combat.

unless you entirely get rid of polestagger(why wont it let me write s.t.u.n.), nerf 1h speed by alot(when no shield), and make lance cav do 1/3 of the damage they currently do, you cant ask for hiltslash to be gone.

btw...why cant i type stun when its next to the word pole

Take your own advice and get better, stop qqing. What does polestagger/lancer damage/1her speed have to do with anything?

im saying that before you can complain about hiltslash you need to also adress the other things as well. Hilt slash is the advantage of a 2h polestagger is the advantage of well a polearm superior speed is what 1h does and lancer cav... well thats self explanitory. No where in there am i saying they need to be nerfed, all i am saying is that if you want to nerf 2h then might as well nerf everything else as well

My question suggests that the sweet spot be made smaller. Along with it being smaller 0 damage for anything outside the sweet spot.

Polearms, 2h, and sometimes 1h all hiltslash. I would like to see if combat complexity is improved by removing this ability.

Polestagger, should be a strength/weight based effect of the weapon. Kind of like crush through, however it is based against the agility of the other player instead of str. In otherwords tons of str allows polestagger, but to balance you can be easily stunned yourself.

i think removing hiltslash will make combat very stale and boring :3

My only concern is that you would have folks revert to a previous fighting style of swinging at the ground to hit the feet. A style used prior to decreasing glance potential. It looked rediculous.
