Title: Some tips?
Post by: Jeff2307 on February 21, 2012, 12:17:03 pm
Level 21

Strength: 16
Agility: 12

Ironflesh: 5
Power Strike: 5
Shield: 4
Athletics: 0
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 3
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 1

One Handed: 79
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 1
Archery: 65
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1

I really feel like I wasted points to archery and I might do the point reset... What do you guys think?

Archery is tricky to hybrid. Completely possible, mind you, but it isn't easy. Personally I'd advise going either pure melee or pure archer until you get a good grip on one of the two.

But I don't feel like reset all over again... + idk if it would keep archery or melee

If you want to keep that character, go something like
Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

    Strength: 18
    Agility: 18
    Hit points: 63

    Attributes to skills: 1
    Skills to attributes: 4

    Ironflesh: 5
    Power Strike: 6
    Shield: 4
    Athletics: 2
    Riding: 0
    Horse Archery: 0
    Power Draw: 6
    Power Throw: 0
    Weapon Master: 6

    One Handed: 79
    Two Handed: 1
    Polearm: 1
    Archery: 132
    Crossbow: 1
    Throwing: 1

But if I was you, I'd think again do I wanna be stuck with this build for ages :) I have no idea how effective this would be, too...

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)
Strength: 16
Agility: 21
Hit points: 61
Skills to attributes: 4
Ironflesh: 5
Power Strike: 5
Shield: 5
Athletics: 0
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 5
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 7
One Handed: 79
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 1
Archery: 152
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1

this is maximum for your build I think.
Yes, you'll be slow with 0 athletics. but at least you can shoot something.
shield and bow, not a good idea. Only if you wanna be scared horse archer

If you respec, you'll lose half of your experience (not a big deal at 21 level) but you can redistribute all your skillpoints and wpf. 16 level is not so bad

You should plan your build ahead of time, and aim for level 30 usually. Use http://infinitum.dyndns.org/crpg/calc.htm

Pretty much every build needs some athletics. I like 6 or 5 minimum. Especially if you play ranged. Don't forget you can convert skill points to stats. Every 3 str/agi increases the cap for skills.

Check this thread also: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,9160.0.html , or other threads around this section

Under 100 with a ranged skill is generally not that good, you want that 140+ I suppose. Weapon skill can be lower, but its up to you. If you're new I think its worth specialising and not being slower than the more experienced guys

go pure archer,or not use archery at all. Using shield while u are archer is dumb, waste of points, and you don't have enugh slots for all and repairs are gonna kill you.

You need to have at least 5 athl, and 5-6 wm skill. Get as much u can strentght and power draw. use 1h weapons, but dont give too much points, and use it without shield. learn to manula block. Use pick or anything that have pierce or blunt dmg and that is fast.

In general going hybrid is a bad idea. Only hybrids I would recommend are melee/thrower and xbow/melee. Archery is best when going pure archery and only bringing a 0 slot melee weapon to have something to block with in case things get tough. (although most archers just run away from melee people anyway, so it wont really be needed)

Best possible build for a new player imo. You pack a punch, you can take a few hits and you're reasonably fast.
Don't convert skillpoint until you hit level 30 though, this prevents nasty and accidental mistakes that might screw over your build.
Aim for 15/15 at level 25, then 18/15 at level 28 and 21/15 at level 30.

I don't feel the need for athletics though... I don't need speed :d
And how come when I have 4 points left and I click on the + at one handed they all disapear?

As you get higher in proficiency for a weapon it requires more points per wpf.  Diminishing returns as you go upward, one of the reasons why the WM is one of the least effective things to invest in (except for ranged characters which need wpf for things like draw/reload speed & accuracy).

Athletics is important for almost every build - an exception may be a dedicated cav player that is planning on being mounted most of the time.  Having a healthy amount of athletics will help you keep decent footwork and not be overwhelmed as much in melee, and it will also help get away from enemy hordes instead of getting surrounded and destroyed.

That said the important part is having enough athletics to compete in general.. I'd say no less than 3 and no more than 7 should be your range, to taste based on your preferences.

Yes you'll need speed. Even the biggest rolling tank needs enough speed to - at the very least - keep the pressure on archers.

Yes, use grumbs link he gave you to the crpg character calculator:  http://infinitum.dyndns.org/crpg/calc.htm

It's so helpful it's ridiculous to try and plan a build without it.

Speed is the most important part of your character after the ability (not ammount) to do damage. Always max out athletics.

As for a 1h/arhcer hybrid, the one belove is probably the best. Seriously, some of the hybrid builds I saw here were some of the worst builds I've seen!

But if you don't want to respec and remove the shieldskill, then this might be the better archer/shielder build:
