Title: Female Voices
Post by: ManStarr on January 24, 2012, 03:55:28 pm
No offense to whoever recorded it because I know they needed something, but the female voice is terrible.  I was going to have my girlfriend make a set when the idea was originally proposed but we never found the time.

I'm wondering, if I had her make a set now, would it be able to be implemented?  I have fairly decent recording equipment and she's a sexy, fiery redhead.  Of course I'm biased, but I can't think of a better person to record voices for a female warrior.

Oh yes, I wondered when this topic would show up. Feels like people are trolling my ears

"No" Moody teenager asked to take out the trash?

"Hello" Hi, oh I'm just on a battlefield, about to go stab some guy. How are you?

"Shut uuuuuppppp" . Moody teen again

Wrong accents, the sound comes from both sides of your headset rather than the position the sound comes from (like its closer than it is). The sound is too loud and clear compared to others

Appreciate the effort though

The female voice doesn't sound as... natural I guess. The male voices sound like they're in game. When the female voice plays, someone always asks something like "who was that? Did the admins get mics to work in game?"

After burning through 20 unvoluntary ones who failed to cooperate and had to be disposed of.

Oh and also, the female voices creep me out. I was bashing in a door at siege and from the other side I heard a faint 'Hello', didn't feel like going there anymore.

As you can tell by our current selection of voices, we're not exactly picky. If she could record a set of voices, it would almost definitely be added.

... the female voice is terrible.

As well as male :) Better then nothing, but they sound like shit. If i close my eyes and listen to them, that is how i picture the "medieval warriors" how posses them:

Grown up men, will sound way more aggressive in a heat of battle.

Yea, I know not all men have deep, low pitched voices but the voices in game sound like a bunch of pissed young boys being shushed by teen nannies. Simply lowering pitch would suffice for male voices. I thought the female voices were a joke from the devs (and this way they're quite good).

...could someone perhaps make a new male voice pack as well? They're not that great either. I was debating it actually.

I liked it when females had the same vocals as the males.

Because we all know everyone that plays cRPG is a sweaty dude anyways - it seemed to be more accurate.

my girlfriend is english I could ask her to do it but not sure how to record the samples, although not sure I'd want to hear her voice on the game I come to escape from her.

She'd probably be saying 'wash up' in the same annoying tone of 'shut up'.

I like how you describe her voice as annoying, she yells at you to wash up, and you have to escape from her. Are you sure she is not your mother-in-law?
Title: Re: Female Voices

1. Need at least an armature singer/actress.

With no motional input, and "bad" voice - the result will be just as weak as it is now... Quality should always be above quantity when possible. A girl who likes to sing, act in college plays, and smokes weed/drink would be perfect imo.

2. Need a descent equipment to record and process sound. And someone who knows how to do it.

Processing and optimizing recorded samples using a software like Sound Forge is a must, in order to produce a descent result, that works well with the rest of the in-game sounds. Current voice levels and quality is way off... Need more volume, clarity and overall higher audio quality of sound, with unified presets/settings.

It is a BIG project, not something that can be done in a single weekend, using a random female with a microphone from a local supermarket, and Microsoft Sound Recorder :)

EDIT: The latest helmet/weapon models and textures for cRPG have a very high quality, i can only hope, that any possible future updates for voices - will have the same high standard :)

I'm running ableton suite 8 with an m-audio fast track interface and an mxl 990 with a monster cable.

She sang in madrigals in high school.

Quality won't be a problem, it's just going to take some time as she's busy between school, work and lacrosse.

I think you got a little confused. They want female voices, they aren't asking for a description of what kind of girlfriend you want.  :P

I'd gladly donate 100,000 for the cause. If the quality is good, even 200'000.

Male voices need work too. Listen to the attack holding native shout ("aeeaaaaah") and compare its pitch with "chaaaarge". Two different voices.
