Title: new content
Post by: Alexander_Bedrick on January 11, 2012, 11:24:07 pm
i am a modeller doing a game design course and is a competent in 3D S Max, Mudbox and photo shop, i am interested in modelling some new content for this game, mainly weapons but can do armour too. post on this thread ideas of what sort of things the community want doing, such as more two hands or shield designs ect, and i will try my best to create some decent models in keeping with mount and blade designs.

One thing we could use, though admittedly it probably isn't the most interesting thing, is to combine some of the existing items to make room for new ones. For example the mail surcoats. Currently we have a heraldic version, and then a bunch of versions just using different single color tabards. If those could be combined into 1 item that uses the banner background of the player it could reduce the total item count we have. I believe someone started working on this but never finished it. Additionally this may work well with the coats of plates.

Also, talk over anything you want to work on with the devs first and see if they're even willing to add it in, or you might just end up wasting your time.

Hes right no point in waisting time on stuff only to see it rot away because they for some strange reason wont implement it.. it has happend before so its worth asking first.

On topic there are tons of all rdy ingame items that just need new textures or a few changes to look awesome you should start there before adding new stuff tbh..  :?

doing new hair would be slightly pointless though cause you will never see it :P

ive tryed re texturing some of the lower quality models and it improves them massively but it depends now on if the administers want them...

New European closed helmets

Something germanic and teutonic, polish helmets, austrian and hungarian full plate.

Maybe some croatian armor too, perhaps inspired by the knights of Šubić (notice the helmet, also nice boots)

(click to show/hide)

Maybe even some dalmatian stuff, its interesting (helmet, scale armor with skirt):

Also here is a 2kg gap between studded leather coat and Byrnie just waiting to be filled with militia armor

In my opinion the mod needs some kind of 15th century plate cuirass to go with the other early renaissance stuff already in the mod, something like a medium armor alternative to the Churburg armors. I can dig for some sources if you're interested. In general the module seem to need medium armors, russian kuyaks have become something of a cRPG uniform.

Some new shield design would be more than welcome and those should be easier to do than armours.

I would like more hair styles and maybe eye makeup, which could be like regular eye makeup or cool ones like on Skyrim.

Ex:

I don't know if it'd be possible though :o

Eye makeup would be possible... but really not very efficient. It would require entire new skin textures with the makeup drawn on them directly. Skyrim uses a layering system which can load textures on top of other textures, (e.g you load a certain skin texture, which is fairly large, then load smaller dirt, makeup, etc textures which are much smaller on top) warband sadly does not have such a system. Alternatively you could simply use photoshop or even paint to draw it on the texture you use manually, though it would mean everyone else with said skin would also have the same makeup (on your screen anyway).

It might be possible to code in a layering system, but I haven't seen any of the code they use myself so I couldn't say how difficult it would be, or if it's even possible. Also probably not something very high on their priority list.

Conical asian straw hat?
(click to show/hide)

There are very few hand armors in game too, and many of them don't fit with the style of the body armors. Would be nice to see some more options in there.

The conical straw hat is a must have, made a topic about that ages ago, sadly no aspiring modellers back then. Would love to see that ingame and should be fairly simple.

I just want to warn you, there is a lot of frustration about getting models actually ingame as the devs are very lazy.

Body armor that shows some of my bare chest.

Ooooh so manly.

I am serious about this though.

afaik, in M&B armor model actually replaces body model so there is no pretty way to create armor that wont cover all the body.

Well, armor would have to include skin texture. For example take a look at Cuir Bouilli Over Mail. The boiled leather part would remain and the rest of the armor could be replaced with body skin texture.

Ofcourse the problem here is it would be in one skin color :( Unless there's a way to dynamically change one part of the model texture, but I highly doubt that.

I can add the Conical Japanese Straw Hat in my sub mod , i have the model on my Three Kingdom's mod on version 1.011.  I will add it when i get home

It's easy as a cake, takes about 5 minutes or so. 5 minute to add them in game then 5 minute for testing. The dev are lazy to test the new armours and helmets thats why the invisible head thing appear.

Devs have previously stated no armours that set a single skin colour are allowed. Its part of the reason we dont have greek/roman armour. Making someone with a black head white just looks lulzy.

Wooden fences, planks of different sizes and shapes (put together and and separate), tents, outdoor indoor houses (like smithy's). Generally lots of modular wooden stuff.

I am missing some more flat topped helmets.

For example those with faceplate (I don't like the native one, it looks too "round"):
(click to show/hide)

Or with nose guard:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Or the one like Godfrey is wearing in Kingdom of Heaven:
(click to show/hide)

And then I would also like to see some Norman helmets, like these:
(click to show/hide)

Some chainmail with ailets would look sweet, I guess. Especially if you make them custom coloured:
(click to show/hide)

Weapon wise I am missing something like a guisarme:
(click to show/hide)

Or a Sparth axe, like the famous Gallowglass used to wield:
(I would even prefer to make the cutting edge completely straight, looks even more special and was almost more common)
(click to show/hide)

And finally let me go quickly through my Osprey collection:

This round topped Norman helmet:
(click to show/hide)

Look at those Swiss boots, I think they look badass:
(click to show/hide)

The Skullcap like helmet in the background:
(click to show/hide)

Segmented helmet:
(click to show/hide)

Helmet with those "ears":

Again a skullcap:

A bascinet with scale collar:
