Title: New game type, Kill the King!

Every round one team will have a king (a randomly selected person). Team with a king will know who the king is, he will have to stand out somehow, possibly different coloured name or whatever. So game mode is very simple, one team will have a king and will need to protect him from dying for like 5min or whatever, other teams task is to kill a king within the time, as well as that other team will not know who the king is so they will need to guess.

I think this type of game play could be awsome fun, as one team will be trying to protect 1 person from dying while other team will try to find the king and kill him.

At the end when a team kills a king next round they will have a king and other team will have to kill him. This type of gameplay will have same gold/exp system as siege/battle.

I thought about that, there could be a no unrechable place camping rule of some sort, the point is that the king becomes a teamleader for a round so he can tell the team where to go and what to do.

There was a similar game mode in one other game which i will not mention and it worked very well.

Siege shields rarely ever used by anyone, at least in this game type it will be used like it should :D Ofcourse there can be a limit on amount of structures created per round, set by admin to prevent excessive use.

The idea is good and sounds fun but I fear some players would bore us to death by using excessive ways, such as sky ladders with no connection to ground. Anyways, still worth trying ...

It could be good if the King needed to reach a certain place on the map for the team with King to win. Or stay in a certain position (maybe at spawn, so that the maps don't have to be changed?). Maybe it would also be good if both teams had kings, and they should be recognizable for the other team, too, I think.

the thing that makes this work in other games is that the VIP has to be escorted to an extraction zone.  even if he survives, if he doesnt get there by the time the clock runs out, they lose.  this keeps them from camping too hard.  and many times, you will have a rush round, which makes things very interesting.

So even if they do camp, so can the opposing team.  since he has to come out to get to the zone anyhow by the end of the round.  its not a draw, its a LOSS if they dont make it.

Maybe both have a king, and they need to reach the opposite spawn? Team of first king who does so, wins. Also, make people lose their multiplier on round draw.

1. Every team has a king, if one dies, the team loses.

2. Free for all, the King is allowed to wear armour at no expense, he must defend his flag to his last breath, others can only wear preset peasant gear, but respawn instantly!

my version: both teams have king which is marked with flag, so other team can see the boss :)
you have to kill opposite king without losing your. clock is ticking... if both kings live - no xp, no gold (maybe too harsh?)
your king's dead, enemy alive - 1/3 xp and $
both kings dead - 1/2 (vengeance!!!)
your alive, enemy dead - 1 xp and $

being asshole king (stairways to heaven and such nonsenses) - BAN

We thought about such map / gameplay but the problem is as follow :

What we thought to fix this is having 1 King at a time so you have an attacker team and a defending team (with the King). Rounds end when they successfully protect the king by killing all the attackers or by surviving the whole round , or when the attackers kill the King.

The other way around to avoid both sides to camp would have to make the king go to a flag in the castle. So the team with the king have to make their way in the castle and have their king go to the flag without being killed...

Highlighted in bold is what i proposed initially, i thought about both teams having kings but that wont work. When defenders have king they will ofcourse camp, for example on castle siege sort of maps king will probably want to hide somewhere in the tower, so attackers will have to cut thruout every line of defence to get to the king, this should be fun as actual game will have purpose, rather then random battle.

Also king should spawn dressed in specific king armor (possibly new armor added?) with high stats. King team chat should also be in specific king colour so team knows who the king and follow his orders.

Having a single king per game and trying to escort him to a random spot each time sounds real fun. Also kings should be wearing no weapon at all but a torch only :)

Just make it so the King has to be the one to take master of the field which would spawn somewhere on the map at round start.

Sorry Mizuk it's only after that I saw I posted on page 2 , so what I thought was the first post of this thread wasn't ...

I also think the King should have better armor to survive attacks and specially not to be killed by some very far archers / throwers. The idea of him not having a weapon though is pretty extreme... let's say your best attacker gets to be king , then it becomes an handicap. The way around though would make a useless peasant into someone to protect...

King should have a banner with a crown just like when you do "Follow Me" order so people know who the king is (only for the team who's having a king).

The enemy has to find the king with the shiny armor ...

But if we do not put a different armor, then enemy have to try to find out who's the King , adding much more challenge and possible tactics (You fake to escort a peasant while the real king ninja his way to the flag so enemies call on team chat that there are many players surrounding a guy, making them believe it's the king)...

What do you guys think about it ?

Hmm, sounds interesting. Tough in that case, I fear that it would be no different than the game we play now. Or on second thought, it could be much more different: distracting enemy with bunch of escort groups while real king is on his way ...

Maybe kings should be banned to ride, what about it?

why not just have 2 kings in each team and if 1 of them dies the other team looses? special flag visible all around the map (like in ctf mode) over the king's head would do the trick.

My thoughts, building on the original post & others' :

Gamemode 'Crusade'
2 Kings, one on each team.
2 flags, not in the same location, but both roughly middle-of-the-map
Time-based

Whoever raises their flag to the top first, or closest to it, wins. 
Kings raise the flag much faster than normal players
Flags may still be contested
Flags cannot be lowered
No over-time



Additional thoughts: Kings spawn with special Horses (require 0 Riding), but only the King may use this horse

Custom UI so the height of each flag is known at all times?

Kings must be clearly visible at all times, either by icon or by a special 'crown' helmet they are forced to wear
---------------------------------

So even if Team A barely raises their flag, it may be enough to beat Team B who has not raised theirs at all.  Even if all of Team A are dead, Team B must rush to raise their flag before time runs out (no over-time)

Hopefully this would encourage offense without negating defense.  Losing your King would hurt, but not be an automatic loss.

We had an event similar to this in native, on nditions - called Guards and Assassins.

It worked really well, but from experience, you need a few rules.

Firstly, the king has to be escorted from the spawn to another location. It could work with a siege type mode, with a flag that the king and his bodyguard have to reach. Otherwise the king's side will camp.

Secondly, you need gear restriction for the two teams. The king needs to stand out of course. The assassins should have weaker gear, but more team members. It's also better if the gear is fitting - so assassins look like assassins (black hoods, robes etc), and Guards look like royal bodyguards (same armour, halberd type polearms, same shields). One option is to make the king ride a horse, and have his bodyguard on foot. This gives the king a chance to make a break for it if his guards are losing, and gives the assassins more tactical considerations (they have to prepare more than one ambush in case he runs).

It makes it more challenging and fun to have the assassins with lots of teammates but inferior gear, and the king with fewer guards but better gear. The guards have to work together to protect the king (shielders have to shield the king and other guards from projectiles, they have to stick together etc), while the assassins can't rely too heavily on their greater numbers because of their inferior gear - they have to find a way to make the numbers count. With the gear limit, you don't want to make it like native (too restrictive), but if you have no gear limit it'll end up as too easy for the assassins (they only have to kill one target to win).

Also, the assassins should spawn before the king and his guards, to give them time to prepare ambushes and traps.

You would have to make an entire new game mode for this to work, basically. You can do it with the existing game modes, but it needs everyone to co-operate, and the server to be passworded so no-one comes in late and doesn't know the rules.

It would also be much better with specific maps - ones with a spawn and destination point for the king, and several possible routes. Ruins works very well for this, but a more specific map would be better.

Banes idea reminds me of a SPARTA mod from a different game, where basically one team have superior equipment (well sparta equipment :D) and just 1 life but there are less of them, other team had crappy equipment but 5 lifes. That was fun too :D

If the king is not recognizable for the other team, both teams will simply rush into battle as usual, while the king will stay back. It will just be a slightly different form of battle mode.

But maybe I'm wrong. We'd have to try it.

Assuming someone would make character devoted to one Game mode?.... Besides, I thought it was understood that the King would be randomly selected, like in pretty much every VIP mode that has ever existed. 

Not to mention if it's an extract mode, defenders could still defend it, and if it were another mode, cav could still run down this guy.

Kill the King?  Another assassination plot... 

For a few hours when there were about 7 players on each team, the enemy team decided that their entire goal was just to kill me.  Our team claimed a tower as our own, and my teammates protected me.  It was one of my favorite days of playing.
