Hi
I would like to make a pure 1 handed /shield template oriented damage. I think about this one but your opinion is important.
Level 30
Strength: 23
Agility: 15
Hit points: 72
Converted: 6
Ironflesh: 7
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 5
Athletics: 1
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 5
One Handed: 148
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1
I will be too slow or is good , ? i will make sufficient dammage ?

Its a good build but if you dont wear heavy armor , you shouldnt skill Ironflesh.
-
it would be better to sacrifice a bit of IF and invest it into 1 additional strength and powerstrike
but for sure - athletics 1 will kill you
in general when it comes to what is the best question for shielders i don't believe in str builds, i think balanced/higher agi are the way to go.
-
You need more athletics and shield skill, they are your most important skills, I would go for a 15/24 build if I were you.
8 shield and 8 athletics, 5 powerstrike, and as much weapon master as you can get afterwards.
You don't need ironflesh, you got your shield to protect you.

I dont know why I have to keep stressing this to people.
@Magikarp: Weapon master is _useless_ past WM 4 or 5 unless you are planning to hybrid.
By level 30, WM 5 will get you around 150 WPF. Even if you have WM 8 you are only looking at about a 20 point difference (not much faster to allow you to outspam someone with only 20 points less). Much better to get the extra Power Strike so you can kill in 2 hits instead of having to hit someone 3 or more times.
Shield skill is also not as useful now that the forcefield is taken away, if a weapon is designed to break your shield or crushthrough, it will happen regardless. If it is a sword or a piercing weapon not designed to break your shield, it wont happen. That small HP bonus may make it survive a single hit more. Stick with ~5 shield skill.
To OP: As mentioned, swap IF for Athletics though, because Athletics is needed (most 2 handers will back away and spam you, you need to be fast enough to press up against them).
If you go higher STR, you will not only have the higher damage from PS but also more HP anyway, making IF somewhat moot. The goal I would say is when you feel comfortable being able to kill most non-tincans in 2 hits and surviving at least 2 hits yourself, then your strength is high enough.
Honestly my 27/12 with 4 Athletics, 4 Shield, 4 WM and 9 Power Strike does beautifully. I use a long weapon against 2 handers (sarranid cav or nordic champion), and a short weapon against other shielders (steel pick or broad axe).

thanks for all your suggestion !

In my opinion for a 1H+shield, speed (both hitting and movement) is very important. With 21 agi you will have both (165 WPF and 7 ath) and I think 18 str/6 PS is enough. You won't 1hit enemies, but you will be fast enough to make up for it. And considering most 1h+shield go 15/21 you will still hit harder than the average.
With 18 str (well 16 actually) you can take any armor.
Your build is good if you like str builds, but it will be harder to play because you will be slow.

I've played various versions of strength, agility and balanced builds and imo, 5 athletics is a bare minimum.

ok thanks all i wil adopt your template
good week end

I'm new to this and still figuring things out. Thanks for the info here and in advance for my quesitons.
My first char is focusing on this (1h, shield, and agility focus). I'm trying to be fast and light.
Right now my stats are:
Level 26
* Strength: 12
* Agility: 19
* Converted: 0
* Ironflesh: 4
* Power Strike: 4
* Shield: 6
* Athletics: 6
* Weapon Master: 6
* One Handed: 150
I was planning on getting AGI to 21, then build STR after that. Should I continue like this aiming for Punisher's build? I probably should have omitted the Ironflesh points, but didn't know what was best.
I'm using a Norman shield and Warhammer. I'm trying to keep only 1 weapon equipped to be light. Will carrying a sword that Z_E_N recommended for reach affect weight much?

Looks good, but nearly everybody who reaches 31 retires... So what would you propose for a level 30 build? Power Strike of 6 isn't possible with only 17 Str, and Shield, Athletics and Weapon Master 7 aren't with 20 Agi...

Well, I'd say, remove 1 Weapon master and 1 shield and convert them. Or 2 weapon masters.

For level 30 go with 18/18 balanced build, if you like to hit hard with a bit slower speed
Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)
* Strength: 18
* Agility: 18
* Hit points: 63
* Converted: 2
* Ironflesh: 5
* Power Strike: 6
* Shield: 6
* Athletics: 6
* Riding: 0
* Horse Archery: 0
* Power Draw: 0
* Power Throw: 0
* Weapon Master: 6
* One Handed: 156
Or 15/21 build if you will rather do less damage, but at higher speed.
Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)
* Strength: 15
* Agility: 21
* Hit points: 58
* Converted: 2
* Ironflesh: 4
* Power Strike: 5
* Shield: 6
* Athletics: 7
* Riding: 0
* Horse Archery: 0
* Power Draw: 0
* Power Throw: 0
* Weapon Master: 7
* One Handed: 165
It's a matter of personal preferance really, both builds are good and used by most pure shielders. It would be very easy to go hybrid as well, just put the points from IF to throwing.

my build now (lvl 30)
Strength 21
Agility 15
One Handed 146 [9 WPF cost]
Ironflesh 2
Power Strike 7
Shield 5
Athletics 5
Riding 5
Weapon master * 5
works well

Works great even without a shield for a bit of assassin action.

If I use a fast and short sword with less damage, which build would be more recommended? The faster (15/21) or the stronger one (18/18)?
